Good boy.

To those having greater knowledge on this stuff than me, what is it about Reid's game that puts him so far ahead of McKercher's game, bearing in mind that speed, contest to contest running and kicking stood out like dogs balls in this year's GF, that we'd pass up on having 2 of the top 3 selections? (assuming we get Band 1)
If it's pure midfielder vs midfielder in position, then McKercher (181cm) beats Reid (185cm) at that position because McKercher is a pure inside and can spread to the outside type midfielder, clean below his knees, great IQ, tackles hard, great hands, very good kick an a great burst to get out of the contest or to the outside but his bread and butter as that classical rover. Comparsions to him being a Zach Merrett type player is fair but McKercher is quicker and more agressive at the tackler.

Reid on the other hand, is smart, aggressive, physical and dominant geniune utility player. Has the fend off and IQ of Cunnington in the middle and could be a clearance machine and spread if that was his true position, the power of De Goey & Dusty to break and burst from the middle or a contest. Up front, he's pretty accurate, can play one out or go the contested mark with great hands and timing. But where the comparisons of Dusty or De Goey ends is that Reid is an exceptional intercepting and rebounding defender and defender in general for his height which is where he often drifts down naturally.

So you have McKercher the pure midfielder that will rack up possessions vs Reid a geniune utility that is a threat at either ends of the ground and in the middle plus Reid has had the pick #1 rockstar like pressure all year at U18 and numerous VFL appearances, level.

Rival clubs have told foxfooty.com.au the Bulldogs are in the box seat to acquire Gold Coast’s first selection (currently Pick 4) by giving away Picks 10 and 17 and, if needed, their future first-round pick. Should the Dogs land that selection, it’s expected they’ll take a smaller, hybrid player such as Eastern Ranges small forward Nick Watson or star Tasmanian midfielder Colby McKercher.

10 and 17 maybe (its about a 20% premium on points to pick 4), but an F1 as well is insane

Do you think there's much to work with with Kentfield? Looks like an imposing type and he has a lovely kicking action which reflects his kicking accuracy.
He is raw, but there are some draftable features there. Particularly, his body shape (he will be a solid lump once he fills out) and physicality. I wish he got to play full time as a forward this year, he often had to play plenty of minutes in the ruck, which he is never going to be at AFL level.

Kidding yourself mentioning Morris in the same breath as those guys. They have natural football talent and are elite.
It was just a stats comparison to highlight that Morris represents excellent value later in the first round/early 2nd round.

Morris, definitely has natural footballing talent and imo he is elite in the position he plays. You can't easily teach his timing, leading and forward craft.

Maybe it's case of WC or Freo trying to hide players again...

I've heard half way through the year that the Doggies fwere wanting to target McKercher in the draft as an heir apparent to Libba...they can keep their paws off Watson;).

Croft not nominating or haven't l should say, is interesting...he knows he has Darcy in front of him with English and Lobb as well...consider a 2nd rounder for him (if we have any picks left).

Nah I don't think so. They'll have access to Coen Livingstone through their NGA, so they are already going to get one physical tall forward for nothing.

Kentfield plays for Subiaco, and he was often thrown into the ruck because they don't have many talls in their senior side. I'd say if he played for a club that had more talls he would've spent more time at Colts level.

If McKercher gets past us, we have screwed up! Let alone Hawthorn as well.

The Bulldogs would deserve to be absolutely laughed at if they traded up for a small forward like Watson after just giving Naughton a godfather 40 year deal.

We wouldn’t have gotten anywhere near the assistance and there would be so much pressure in the media that band combo would be in doubt.

In the end, we would probably be in a similar position, but would have to do it in a much more difficult way.
What? If we lost 21 in a row the argument would be for more assistance - not less. Band compo in doubt as well? Were you on the grassy knoll when JFK got shot - or maybe he wasn't actually shot...
