Hollands/Binns, Boyd, Carroll, Fogarty

Sub: Cripps

Harry is killing us and needs a dose of confidence. Covering for Cripps' defensive deficiencies is one thing, but when he loses the ability to hurt offensively as well, he needs a break. I put him as sub an an insurance policy. Considered also dropping Hewett but one has to stay and he is usually better defensively.

I wanted to drop Weiters, but I believe Young's ground game hurts just as much as Weiters being off the boil. I considered Young as a forward/second ruck, but TDK is surely better in that regard. Plus TDK can do the long searching leads down the ground that Harry can do and his hands are every bit as good.

McGovern up forward but he is interchangeable with Kemp there. Just wanted someone who has good recovery skills and kicks straight.

Cincotta has limitations. He takes the game on and gets caught down back. I'd like to see that tackle pressure and pace up forward. He doesn't stop trying and he is physical. Durdin and Motlop either get nowhere near it for much of the match, don't tackle or lose one on ones too easily. It's not working Vossy.

Boyd on the bench as the 7th defender. Hollands or Binns as the 3rd winger, depending on how Hollands comes up. Carroll and Fogarty into the midfield rotation.

IN: O'Brien

Collingwood preference skill execution and pace/endurance mix over height and strength, and while we provide a difficult matchup for them when we have the ball, they can mince us by playing off the counter attack against us.

Let's give ourselves more of a shot to successfully press them by reinforcing our outside run without leaving Hollands, Saad and Docherty gassed after 3 quarters.

Sorry - busy this week.
I'm thinking the same and the next couple after that as well, after all the shit this club has put us through mentally I don't think I can cope watching our season slip away over the next month.

Probably come game time and I'll be glued to watching despite knowing how bad it is for our health but fmd I'd take a trip to the in-laws to miss this trash were dishing up right now.

Out
Motlop - 8 touches and 4 turnovers..
E Curnow - was a terrible sub option
Hollands - got bullied out there again
Pitto - no influence around the ground. Averaging 1.6 marks a game..

I’d like to see Boyd in. Then I’d prefer someone like Hollands over Curnow as the sub. Apart from that I’m not sure anyone is banging the door down for selection. I’d also like to see Gov given another crack up forward. His stint up forward at Carlton was hindered by injury and I’m not sure he played many games with both Harry and Charlie so he never got time to build that continuity. Feel he gives us a bit more agility and X factor up forward than what we currently have.

In the words of Voss.. good teams give you lots of feedback. Feel like we’ll be taking a lot of feedback out of this one. Hoping for the best, keeping expectations low.

Talk about swinging the axe...

There are only 2 coaches I can see that would be willing to do something like that... Clarko and Ross....

Would be pretty interesting to see us take on the Pies with that line up... if we lose look at all the OUTS we had :D

Well the conservative selection approach hasn't been working.

My game plan - It can’t be any worse

Play 17 behind the ball
Harry, Charlie & Owies up forward
If Harry gets it anywhere in the 50 he handballs it to Owies for the shot on goal

When these players get possession they immediately place the ball on the ground and try to kick it off the ground towards our end

Wietering, Young, Acres, Cripps, Hewitt.

Doc, Saad & Walsh can have a couple of sighters but revert to the above if the don’t hit a target with them.

Ed comes on as sub and becomes the goalie

Collingwood by 70 if we can limit the damage. Will get ugly otherwise.

Maybe bring in Binns for Motlop.
If Harry is going to continue to play like a C grade forward then maybe play him as the second ruck.

We don’t really have the players to bring in that we need so it’s over to the coaches now.
Never make Curnow sub again.
I don’t know how Boyd is going and I don’t rate him as much as most but maybe if he comes in we can use Saad higher up the ground. We do lose Saad’s intercepting and rebound though so I’m not real keen.

I think having 17 behind the ball and three forwards should help quite a bit. 20 on the field vs 18 might help us be more competitive

Until and unless the forward deficiencies are addressed every match will be a grind at best and a likely loss against top opposition. I stated this at teh start of the season and this has been the case all year will continue to be the case. If it is this obvious to me a part time watcher - how obvious must it be to Voss and Co and how frustrating?

My personal frustration is the unnecessary injury to Cuningham in the pre-season compounded by Martin's inability to play for us. Both haven't played all year and both will need time in VFL to prove body and get some touch. So little chance of any relief from these two options in the near term.

Motlop, Durdin, Owies, Silvagni are incapable of delivering the required forward pressure to maintain territory and put the opposition on the back foot. This sees easy rebound and continual pressure on midfield and defense with little relief or time to compose.

The only positional and player changes that I can see making some difference is pushing McGovern forward to add some marking ability, better field- kicking and goal-kicking impact and bringing Kempo back in to cover for Mcgovern.

Pittonet is showing signs that he cant play as a one out ruckman with continuing in game issues forcing Silvagni to play extended periods on ruck- which takes away from any third tall impact he does have ( which is pretty ordinary on a good day). Bringing TDK back in as a second ruck is a smart move-thos who have watched Mirkov play VFL must understand by now- that he is a waste of time developing- - he will never make it in AFL and is barely VFL quality. ANother ruck in off-season is a priority.

Young is a nervous nellie under any ground ball pressure unfortunately Ssam Durdin has been injured again and unavailable ( the Carlton curse with KP defenders it seems)...

Easy for people to blame Voss and Co - far easier than to accept the fact that the Club was correct last year and continues to be correct this year- the list is far from complete.

Collingwood's better kicking and game plan based on a long period of continuity with few injuries to hamper development- will carry them in good stead in this game as it has in most games this year...

Bitterly disappointed in Harry McKay's 'form' tbh.

Hard to pick us while being so inconsistent

Not sure what to do with Mots and Durdin, given they aren't a scoreboard threat at the moment, don't apply enough pressure or just not involved enough

Jsos as a 2nd ruck is doing my head in, and still can't be trusted to convert in front of goal

Harry has lost all confidence kicking for goal

Our forward half is killing us
I would swing McGovern forward. You then have Curnow, Mckay & McGovern more likely to meet the contest from full forward to the wing. But always having a option out of the square.

Our smalls can get lost & are poor in the air against their direct opponents. These marking turnovers often leave players down the field in no man’s land.

We focus on a basic game plan on marking or bringing the ball to ground and have the smalls focus on applying pressure. A bit like the beginning of last year.

Jsos plays off the bench backing up the Ruck or goes forward when Mckay, Curnow & McGovern are resting. Jsos can be a bit slow coming out of the forward line but is good reading the ball off the boot in the mid area of the ground. Means kemp comes back in.

Yes, forward line is killing us. Voss needs to structure differently until we get some poise & class across the half forward line linking into the wings.

I still think the Blues are on the verge of getting us excited again. It is a long season. The team going into next week will be more settled & hungry.

I feel sick enough without you mentioning LOb Jimmae.

Been calling for Gov to play forward for a while, we need more impact/dangerous types

Would also be our best set shot

Owies says hi.

I was thinking last night he’s a matty wright clone. Nothing special just makes the right decision 99/100

Exactly.

So many were bagging him not that long ago as not being best 22. Everyone is onto him now though.
