Imagination better than reality, has happened as long as I remember.

I guarantee people who saw Dow would want him out of the side within a quarter.

The only thing i would say about Dow and those who want him in each week is, do you reward form in the reserves? or do we keep putting the same blokes making the same mistakes?

If they had any genuine selection integrity, players in the best each week in the reserves should be getting a look in when the best 22 arent getting the job done. But then again, we see someone like honey get a game after getting 5 touches in a reserves game becasue 'there is no-one else to play that role'.....and duely come in and stink it up

No doubt Dow is done as a carlton player, he will literally turn up to his last game with his locker cleaned out, shower afterwards and never be seen again in the clubrooms.

I see a lot of comments above about giving ED a spell I’d play him this game. I think he needs to tag N Daicos. And nullify his influence

Did i hear correctly that Fisher got rested this week? WTF for? He should be busting down doors to try and get back into the AFL side, sore or not.

'Mate, you're dropped, play VFL this week and work on things'......doesnt play well enough to get back in the AFL side.....'have a rest mate, you've deserved it....''

VFL played the AFL academy this week (team had a bye) - they rested some of our better players (inc. Fisher).

Yeah i knew they had a practice game....dont know why you'd give fisher a rest who needs to be out there busting his ass off to get another game at AFL level rather than resting with his feet up

Fisher probably needed to miss to recover from adding yet another sheizen tattoo to his hands

Just to put it out there as a Collingwood supporter.

I'm completely expecting your mob to play their best game of the season so far.

McKay will probably kick 5 straight
Cripps absolutely adores seeing black and white stripes and I don't think has ever played poorly against us
Curnow will be Curnow
and as usual against Collingwood, some "no name" will play a blinder no one will see coming

Now whether all of the above gets you the win I'm not sure. I don't expect it will, but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me one little tiny bit.
I wouldn't stress.

To be BOG Daicos needs Ed to tag him. Cotts can do that maybe, but Ed played in poor teams for years and was an admirable foot soldier no doubt, but he won’t bring this team to another level at 33. We have to move on from him.

It’s about time our better players play to an acceptable standard, that’s where the focus has to be.

These calls for TDK to come back in really do highlight the natural cycle of player discussion here. It's like there's a Real and an Imaginary version of each player, and much of what gets said depends on which version is being discussed.

Real players: These are the players that played AFL level football within the last couple of weeks. Some are adequate, but many are poor and deserve to be dropped. A few will have played well in the most recent game and are lauded for their efforts, but it will only take a small number of additional games for this to be forgotten. Examples include Ed (praised after round 2) and Acres (more recently).

Imaginary players: Once a player is out of the side, they begin their journey from Real to Imaginary, a process that usually takes about a month. Imaginary players are far more talented than their Real counterparts, to the point where it becomes inexplicable why they are not in the senior side.

Example 1: Honey was an Imaginary player at the start of the year. He was given some games and quickly became Real, to the point where most here were happy to see him dropped again.

Example 2: TDK is just ticking over from Real to Imaginary, right on schedule. Real TDK has poor ruck connection with the mids, poor forward craft, and pulls in a fraction of the marks he attempts. Imaginary TDK's shortcomings are far less severe and are clearly outweighed by his strengths. Imaginary TDK is a more athletic presence around the ground than Real Pitto and so should be our first ruck, he'd stretch opposition defenders more than Real JSOS and so should be our 3rd forward, and for some reason he's good enough that we should think about playing him in defence as well.

Example 3: Fisher has only missed a couple of games so far and is still essentially Real. Watch for people to start calling for his return 2-3 weeks from now as he becomes more Imaginary.

When a player has been Imaginary for long enough, they ascend to the level of Mythical. The most Mythical player on our list at present is Dow, who is precisely what our midfield needs if only those buffoons running the club could see it. Kemp has also been Mythical relatively recently. His two senior games weren't quite enough to drag him all the way back to Real, but they did pull him down to somewhere closer to Imaginary.

And of course, this is why things seem so positive during preseason. When there are no games being played, every player is Imaginary and we have so much talent that it's hard to select a team of just 22.

Nice speech. I was one who floated the idea of bringing back TDK. Pittonet, whilst a tryer, can't jump and I don't think offers us a lot around the ground particularly on the wider MCG.

We are playing a red-hot Collingwood and in cricket terms, have a bowling attack of pedestrian medium pacers. A TDK might still get bullied in the ruck around the throw-ins but with his leap he may be able to get us first use at ball-ups and centre bounces. He can also intercept.

It's not exactly a 'hail-mary' - he was in the side for the first four weeks or so.

I can't see how it could makes thing much worse but maybe some X-Factor - after all, I doubt McRae is having sleepless nights this week working out how to handle Pittonet.

I honestly don't care about the result this week.. I just want 22 blokes cracking in and giving their all.

I watched the Crows/Saints game yesterday and was envious at how hungry the crows are both offensively and defensively.. the way they moved the ball and actually gave their forwards genuine one on one contests was the way we need to play.

This is the Bigfooty equivalent of the low handicap golfer you get paired with at a public course saying "geez, only played once in two years, be lucky to keep it under 100 today" before drilling it 300m straight down the middle off the first tee.

I’m not sure why anyone thinks Ed could tag Daicos, he’ll run him off his feet before half time, a bit like what Sinclair did to Ed when he tried to tag him against the St Kilda, except probably worse as Daicos is a better player than Sinclair.

Yes Ed had some success against Prestia in the last quarter of the round 1 game but Daicos is a completely different proposition. I agree we have to tag Daicos but surely it’s Cotts who gets the job rather than Ed.

Personally I think the unfortunate truth is Ed is finished as a league footballer and shouldn’t play for us again this year unless there is an injury crisis. I’d actually rather the club get games into Carroll and Dow than play Ed again.

Out: Hewett
In: Fisher/Kemp

With Kennedy back in, we're again playing one midfielder too many. It's damning that Cerra was pushed out of the rotation. Hewett well off his best and makes way.

Either Fisher or Kemp in. With Cottrell back in the side, Fisher no longer needs to be the link man and can play a role more suited to his strengths. Kemp gives us flexibility with Mcgovern and/or Young.

If they reward fisher for sitting on his ass not playing then we are truley stuffed as a club. (im sure it was the clubs idea for him to rest but my point still stands)

Dont think itll happen but feel like Mason Coxs little chin music he gave Haynes was no different to Aiden Corrs who got a week
