People potting Harry because he hasn’t sorted out a set shot routine.

Re depression and getting into his own head, looks like personal issues maybe effecting him, Weiters for sure as well and Cripps playing either injured or with no confidence (column a and b perhaps).

Basically it happens to a few sides each year, that a few things go wrong and it can be a whole lot of small things which snowball and compound into a self perpetuating spiral.

Now we are all feeling the despair, knowing the hopes we had for this side aren’t going to happen, at least not this season.

I know we are 4-4-1 but that will soon be 4-7-1 barring something totally unforeseen, and then maybe 4-9-1 or 5-8-1 at best going into the bye.

On current form, we won’t win any of our next 5. Essendon will smash us for pace, and Suns will be too classy.

C’mon ODN, Sam Durdin has been injured since early April & is at least a fortnight away from a VFL return (unfortunately, as there could be a spot for a switch down back).

Just a wish list based on who deserves to get a rest.

Our team needs a group trauma session. Its obvious they are desperate to do well. Its just that desperation is tilting on obsession and anxiety.

Maybe a group camp this week or something?

I say we get Ted Lasso to lead the session and he teach us the “Total Football” strategy but with a slight variant (unlike our round ball cousins), we aim to kick more than 1 goal before half time

Is it normal for us when we setup forward of the ball to have our smalls as the options and the bigs sitting in behind (30m away from where any kick can reach)

wtf is the reason for that, quick kick comes out of defense and our smalls get out marked so often

Charlie or Harry or JSOS need to be an option to either mark or split the contest for a restart

These calls for TDK to come back in really do highlight the natural cycle of player discussion here. It's like there's a Real and an Imaginary version of each player, and much of what gets said depends on which version is being discussed.

Real players: These are the players that played AFL level football within the last couple of weeks. Some are adequate, but many are poor and deserve to be dropped. A few will have played well in the most recent game and are lauded for their efforts, but it will only take a small number of additional games for this to be forgotten. Examples include Ed (praised after round 2) and Acres (more recently).

Imaginary players: Once a player is out of the side, they begin their journey from Real to Imaginary, a process that usually takes about a month. Imaginary players are far more talented than their Real counterparts, to the point where it becomes inexplicable why they are not in the senior side.

Example 1: Honey was an Imaginary player at the start of the year. He was given some games and quickly became Real, to the point where most here were happy to see him dropped again.

Example 2: TDK is just ticking over from Real to Imaginary, right on schedule. Real TDK has poor ruck connection with the mids, poor forward craft, and pulls in a fraction of the marks he attempts. Imaginary TDK's shortcomings are far less severe and are clearly outweighed by his strengths. Imaginary TDK is a more athletic presence around the ground than Real Pitto and so should be our first ruck, he'd stretch opposition defenders more than Real JSOS and so should be our 3rd forward, and for some reason he's good enough that we should think about playing him in defence as well.

Example 3: Fisher has only missed a couple of games so far and is still essentially Real. Watch for people to start calling for his return 2-3 weeks from now as he becomes more Imaginary.

When a player has been Imaginary for long enough, they ascend to the level of Mythical. The most Mythical player on our list at present is Dow, who is precisely what our midfield needs if only those buffoons running the club could see it. Kemp has also been Mythical relatively recently. His two senior games weren't quite enough to drag him all the way back to Real, but they did pull him down to somewhere closer to Imaginary.

And of course, this is why things seem so positive during preseason. When there are no games being played, every player is Imaginary and we have so much talent that it's hard to select a team of just 22.

You forgot to mention the holy trinity of the “Imaginery Illuminati”…messrs Martin, Marchbank and Cunningham…

Hahaha. great post

As Mr T once said

PAIN

I thought he said "I pity the foal". But maybe that was Mr Ed.

Good luck bluesoids, and especially my fellow horse myblueroan . May the best horse...errr team win. I think we will be too strong, but we are kind of due a bit of a correction. Should be a humdinger. I will bet all my carrots on the outcome.

So true. For the record, I remember and don’t want to see any of them. TDK works wayyy better in people’s imagination than reality. He has never done anything ever to back up the outlandish contracts being mentioned.

Dow is the king of the imaginary players at the moment. The panacea to all our issues to some. Need a small forward? Why not Dow? Half forward? Dow! Wingman? Dow? Lockdown defender? Dow!

So 'Good Horsie',
Just wonderin'...
Could we borrow a few players for the game?
No-one too fancy...
I'm thinking Josh, and Nick obviously...maybe Pendles now he isn't Captain?
Can give you some very special molasses and 3 bags of oats?

I mean, it would be in everyone's interest, make for a more exciting game.
Oh, one more thing,
Would you mind if we swapped coaches?

He tries hard but he’s not up to it. Trouble is I don’t think there is a replacement who’d do any better.

Gov we could try forward but he was dreadful up there last time we tried.

Kemp, I can’t really seeing any better than JSOS.

TDK would be worse than JSOS as well, no football smarts. He is all show and no go.
Couldn’t hurt trying JSOS and Gov at opposite ends. Gov would be a bigger goal threat and more capable of applying pressure. JSOS has that desperation quality that all good defenders need.

Changes for next week makes no difference whatsoever.

It’s in their heads.

I agree although Ed should not be the sub - he is just a total liability now - I don’t see any point changing personnel.

With the exception of Williams this is practically our best 22. If these guys can’t get it done, then we are doomed.

I say it all the time on here, there is no-one better at Carlton than someone not in the 22. They become world beaters around here, then same people want them dropped 2 weeks later

Yes, but if our kicking out of defence is bad now, I fear how much worse it could be with JSOS.

More tempted to try Gov forward and drop JSOS and play kemp in defence.

Problem with JSOS he plays like he gives a shit, and I’d love others to bust a gut like him. Issue is JSOS is a fringe player at best, and isn’t going to take us where we want to be. He is a forward who averages less than 0.8 goals a game.

Imagination better than reality, has happened as long as I remember.

I guarantee people who saw Dow would want him out of the side within a quarter.

The question is really if we are trying to play plan A - the type of footy we saw first half of the bulldogs game.

Or plan B in the second half.

The problem with plan A is everything, it awful.

The problem with plan B is that we are awful when we get caught on the turnover.

Still would be lovely to know which type of football the coach is telling the players to play. I’d certainly rather lose going down swinging play plan B, than a slow, excruciating death playing plan A

After round 9. Even record 4-1-4, a game outside the 8 but it feels like we're on the precipice of implosion.

The players are mentally cooked and bereft of any confidence. Whether that is an over coaching/game plan issue, pressure to succeed and play finals, external things to football or an internal rift... who could say. Maybe a combination of all of them?

It seems to be affecting our top end players more than anything.
Weitering is just a punching, lumbering full back now.
McKay has demons in his head with the ball in his hands inside 60m.
Cripps has gone back into hero mode which is his response when we're struggling, which always makes us worse.
Walsh hasn't come back anywhere near where he was.

Our options are to swing the axe hard and hope we get something out of it or to completely free up the game style.
I think we need to go with option B. We ain't gonna win the control game when our players are frightened to hit a short pass.
There are plenty deserving of being dropped but will we get anything better out of the replacements?

I am guessing Voss will try and rush Martin back into the side after a VFL scratch match but I really hope not.

This one might get ugly.
