Austin working his magic with Hollands and Cowan. When was the last time we had two first year players making such an impact? So pleased with them both tonight.

Yep - Austin has made a lot of good moves in the last few years.

Saad getting better & better.

Lewis Young - sensational pick up and cost us SFA.

Acres looking good - also cost us SFA.

Cerra - too early to tell. IMHO needs to contribute more to justify the cost.

Hollands - just what we needed.

Cowan - traded picks on the night specifically to get him. great value for the pick he cost.

Jordan Boyd - 2021 mid season pick up - done well

Motlop - doing well for pick 27 - and filled a position badly needed.

Hasn’t had too many misses.

The big concern is when teams really ramp up the pressure and close out our options, we tend to bomb it long and panic. We need to add a layer whereby players feel confident to back 1 v 1 contests in up the field. We still have a mindset of looking for uncontested marks first then if closed out we bomb it to a pack. The beauty of the pies at the moment is they hold their forwards deep and back their team mates in to win those 50 50s.

You don't think Richmond and Geelong put any pressure? Really?
Why do you have a problem with uncontested marks - it is the lowest risk highest reward stat in teh game...
As for contested marks - compare our HFF to Collingwoods. Fisher hasn't taken a one-on-one contested mark in his career.
Finally - the scariest thing that Carlton can do to opposition is to get the ball into a marking contest featuring Charlri or Harry as quickly as possible - every opposition side that has tried to play against Carlton with no spare defender has been beaten.

Voss has got the side beating Richmond and Geelong and losing to Melbourne and Collingwood by less than a point in teh last 4 games of AFL - Carlton is one of the form Clubs in the competition - all based on a sensible game plan - currently limited somewhat by a couple of key absence and a couple of better than we have on field atm players to come in as well.

Finally - there is nothing beautiful about Collingwood mate- and never will be.

Yes but I mean the last 5 minutes or so, where regardless of what happened earlier in the game we're in a situation where we are 1-2 goals up with not long to go.

A lot of talk about how we handle those situations after the Richmond game. All I'm saying is that we did actually give Geelong some pretty open opportunities that thankfully they messed up. Just more to learn from.

You may need to take your rose coloured glasses off. I was pleased with last week but there’s no way Carlton deserved to win the week before with 21 less inside 50s. The problem with relying on uncontested marks to relieve pressure, is that good teams can shut it down in big moments. It works until it doesn’t. There is a logical flaw to your argument I have kindly put in bold for you to consider...

You see: an uncontested mark is an uncontested mark and if the uncontested mark is 'shut down' then it isn't an uncontested mark opportunity...this holds true for any situation you can imagine under any game condition playing against any opponent.

To use your parlance "an uncontested mark is an uncontested mark until it isn't" and then it is not an uncontested mark and it becomes contested which is not an uncontested mark.

I hope this clears things up for you.

He is getting trades down Which is good. Doing a good job. before Austin we seemed to struggle to get experienced players at good value. obviously we are a more attractive destination nowadays as we should be playing finals.

a Win is the most important thing

some oppositions are tuff. Won’t lay down easily. so just take the win.

but a convincing win gives us supporters and players, coaches more confidence that our systems are working well.

it’s nice to have convincing wins at times.

We have teams like GWS, the Roos, the Crows and the Eagles coming up. There's a great opportunity there to get a few convincing wins.

The real test with regards to how and if we've improved from last year, is how we deal with the teams that we should be beating.

Conversely, Richmond didn't deserve to win considering that with 21 more inside 50s it still took them til the final minute to draw level, and a single uncontested mark from Harry or Acres could still have buried them.

That game was, frankly, pretty shit from both sides. Both had their issues. Reckon both would be quietly relieved to have come away with 2 pts.
