I think we need to stop fantasising the JSOS is an AFL quality footballer.
I love his endeavour but everything else about his game is second rate.

Same with half our list

Name one dropped footballer who dominates at VFL level…..

You're very brave mixing with the filthiest of supporters. I don't envy you. I hope you and your son get rewarded. If we only have one more win this year, let this be it.
The filth will be hoping to kick us into the dirt next week. Hopefully we front up, put in the effort and deprive them of that satisfaction at the very least.

How can professionals have such pathetic skills?

I wouldn't be able to turn up to my job and act unprofessionally.
A lot of onus have to go on the people hiring or recruiting you as well....

Turn up to a job interview without the necessary skill set to do the role is it really the hired persons fault....

In the last quarter Weitering and Cripps just blind hacking it forward while under no pressure and surrounded by Blue players was pretty incredible. Actively making a choice to prevent any sort of run and carry building up to just blind hack it forward to out numbered and disadvantaged players.

Cripps in particular hacking it straight into the corridor which started the run of goals that buried us wasn't what we needed.

Not to mention Pittonet getting a free kick and murdering the ball. These guys get paid millions to kick the ball and they looked closer to sending the ball into orbit than towards our goal at times....

Cripps hardly takes the smart option. I mean, I was surprised when he hit Owies as the short option in the last quarter though even that kick made Owies work for the mark. His bullock and hack forward approach isn’t helping

So. It’s the next morning.

Some good things were the smalls, Durdin, Owies and Motlop. Almost won it for us and they play well together.

Owies still surprises me with just how impactful he is for a guy who seems so very average.

He must work his arse off on all aspects of his game. 3 years ago he could barely kick 40m in open play now he’s kicking goals from 50. That’s an enormous improvement.

Seemed to work ok last year for the first 15 weeks

You can’t blame this solely on Michael Voss

Ash Hansen….forward line coach and supposedly highly rated and touted as a future coach himself….what’s the explanation on the forward line ??

Tim Clark….seems like Crippa wanted his mate back…what’s he doing to aid transition and connection between the midfield and the arcs?? Clearances gone backwards

Hamill…been in the system for years….how has he made our defence stronger ?

Power and Ebert…why aren’t they in the box on game day or down on the boundary ??

Power has won an award for being the best assistant coach for a particular year as voted by his peers…..he’s a midfield man get him in the box FFS

Lloyd….pls he should have followed Teague out the door…

Yes, and of course we wonder about the line coaches, but I figure they are directed by Voss, even if they'd like to do things differently? Hard to know! But again, are they connecting well with the players in their groups?
So much to address!

Finals pretty much done.
Season is a waste unless we keep taking the coridoor and attacking. We will never learn, otherwise.
List needs a lot of renovation.
Game was lost in first half where Acres, Young, Cripps, Motlop and Mckay were horrible

Quick hack kick makes it someone else's problem, our on field leadership is appalling and their lack of composure infectsthe whole side

What kind of pathetic organisational culture allows this level of commentary to continue?

Contrast to Adam Kingsley's recent comments on gallantry in defeat "nope, not good enough, we don't accept this"

Voss ought to have been dragged over the coals following the round 1 comments noting he was proud we didn't lose by 6 goals clearly he didn't, and now we've accepted this rhetoric.

The whole club is so soft. Cook doesn't appear to be cutting the butter, maybe Carlton is just superannuation for him.

At least the president loves the passion though. Full marks for marketing, diversity & inclusion. At least weve made sure we tick all those boxes, I couldn't possibly support a team that didnt

Alright having had a good sleep and a nice breakfast, I can now comment on last night without being overly emotional.

The Good:

  • we fought back into the game, which shows heart
  • the coach did change the game plan at half time
  • Owies can be a very good small forward

The Bad:

  • our kicking for goal and in general
  • the fact we faded when the game was on the line
  • the response of the coach to the media
  • the fact our confidence seems to be shot

This won't be a popular view, but it is always darkest before the dawn. In the past our playing list has been crap and we have not had the talent. This list has the talent to be top 4. I have no doubt about that. There is a disconnect between talent and performance. Is it coaching? Possibly but that seems to always be the convenient excuse. Is it the way the 22 is put together? Possibly - I am firming on the view that Kennedy and Hewett can't be in the same 22. Though definitely Ed can't be in with them. We need another tall marking player in the forward half as we have a ruck that doesn't take around the ground marks (but has other benefits). Is it confidence/psychology? In my view yes. The players lack confidence. We need to pick a 22, a game style and run with it for the rest of the year. My vote is corridor football. If it doesn't work then you blow up the list (and probably the football department). I actually don't think we are far away at all.

Cerra good vs Pies and Cripps was huge....

Setters solid in both games and has started the season well at *.....

No Walsh in either game....

Also no Ed Curnow last year in any game which might be damning for Ed, MC and our balance this year !!
Walsh did play v Dees, but you’re picking up what I’m putting down.

Anyone else think it's time to move Durdin into the midfield for a spell? Even if it's only 5 mins a quarter? One of our better field kicks, quick and agile on his feet and adds another dynamic to a pretty one dimensional midfield unit.

Was also drafted as a mid, so would also be good for his development.

Durdin should be in this midfield permanently

Finals are not pretty much done.

We are 4-4-1. Plenty of teams have won flags from this position.

We have the list to be top 4.

To be our best we can’t play Hewett and Kennedy in the same team. Still not sure who misses out of those two guys, but Doch should permanently take their place in the midfield as we have more than enough decent backs who can cover for him - Boyd, Cowan, Kemp and Cincotta readily come to mind. Zac next year too.

Incredibly we were within a kick of beating Dees and Pies last year without either Hewett or Kennedy - facts don’t lie

For Dees midfield was Cripps, Walsh, Doch and Setters

For Pies it was Cripps, Cerra, Doch and Setters

Doch had 28 and 29 touches respectively in those games. Cerra missing v Dees, Walsh missing v Pies.

Cripps is the midfielder that should be dropped. Not Hewett or Kennedy.

Do you genuinely believe this?

I can’t see how anyone who has been watching our games could say this.

Charlie is easily our best/most valuable player.

Daylight to next best.

I honestly do.

Confidence plays an enormous part in athletic performance.

Why do you think tennis players for golfers can have amazing seasons then fall away, then recover?

We have the elite talent. We need to build around it and harness it.

Dropping the captain of a club, a year after winning the Brownlow, would you do it?
Would create a few headlines to say the least.

I just think the group needs to be split up a little more. Durds and Saad getting a few goes here and there to add some speed. Fish isn't strong enough to be effective in there (imo)
