I'm coming around to Gould being the "in" for Melican.
Surely you jest DQ?

He looks so slow and lacking awareness for mine. He's a beautiful kick but it's literally the only trait he has going for him IMO.

I'd prefer Arnold. He looks strong and solid in the air. My question mark over him has been his ball use, as he's seemed prone to poor turnovers by foot (he said as much in his interview). Although I don't think it's so bad that I wouldn't be OK with seeing him at senior level. More kicks like that one inside 50 to Clarke please...

I'm a bit torn - because Gould is limited, but one thing he is is strong and rugged (with a booming kick).

He's not particularly nimble, but I'd still say he's quicker than Francis.

Arnold looks OK-ish, but I agree with you that he's prone to clangers by foot. At least with Gould you know most of his kicks are going well outside 50, so the potential for catastrophic clangers is lessened.

In truth - none of Gould, Arnold or Francis inspire much confidence at this stage. But we are going to have to choose one!

I'll watch the replay but it appears from the stats that Hickey is doing most of the rucking?
At HT 11 HOs to Hickey, 4 to Ladhams, 2 to McAndrew.

If so why?
Surely McAndrew needs as much time as possible in the ruck and Ladhams can get in there to blow away the cobwebs.
At this stage of the season and at this stage of his career it seems pointless playing Hickey as #1 ruck in the reserves (if that is in fact what we are doing).

Fair points DQ.

I think the stats are probably accurate there Hairy (check my pulse.)

Ladhams is returning from injury while McAndrew could be being managed more as well as a young ruck who has had to do a lot of work this year. Perhaps they think Hickey is genuinely just our best ruck option today.

very disappointed Big Mac has been denied game time. Hickey has been poor and with Ladhams has been outplayed by Sweet. Hopefully BigMac gets some game time in the second half. Our mids have been flogged. Would rather see Mitchell for development reasons in there than Clarke. Stephens has been very plain and Roberts totally needs the run.

Id say they are trying to play hicky back into form because they still see him as our number 1 ruck and best option when he is fit and firing. Playing him forward or back does nothing to help him find form again

Get him right so he can train in the off season before his delisting.
Putrid last week & against Geelong.

Stephens is frustrating. Imo he needs to trust his speed & running capacity from contest then settling to make a decision, also improve his handball skills. More importantly think he needs to find his inner competitive beast
Roberts could be a great contested mid but exposed with his limited athletic ability. He's one paced, need to fit him into the line up appropriately.
Buller is a competitive beast. Think he'll be a board favourite if he gets regular seniors spot next year.

I keep looking for something to get enthused about Indhi Kirk - but I'm just not seeing it.

Im not sure anyone would have in brett either but for ...

Stephens not helped by ladhams as the deep forward. Not exactly capable of changing direction or not falling over. Buller looks so much better as a forward Roberts just needs to follow parker and mitchell - similarly one paces inside mids

I don't think Roberts' lack of speed will be a factor so long as he can step up as that inside distributor alongside Sheldrick. Those two and Mills feeding it out to Warner, Gulden and Campbell in the future seems a solid set-up if they can all come good.
