Yep I'm with you it's not how quick your legs are sometimes it's how big your heart is.I appreciate that this time is an indication of a broader speed, endurance, or fitness concern but I have never understood why a 2km time trial is some sort of defacto proof of whether a player can play midfield or any other position. Many positions require repeat sprint efforts rather than running a good middle distance time at a steady pace. Clubs don't run 2km time trials every week at training. They do it at the start of pre-season. It's a good metric for taking a snapshot of fitness levels. But it's irrelevant late in the season when match fitness is the only thing that counts, not an arbitrary running distance.
