Bonner is a good kick. Our development has been shoddy for the last half a decade. It could be as simple as filling the lost spot on our list with a mature body that atleast sets a good example skill wise on the track and if needed on the field.
He can take the kickouts then go sit on the bench

My old boss was a close friend of a Melbourne committee man when Jacko was playing there. This guy was telling us about a road trip he did with Jacko to some place up north for a sportsman's night. He was apparently petrified of the drive but it turned out Jacko was pretty sensible and good company in the car. However, when they stopped for petrol the Jacko show was in full flight for the other customers and the servo staff.
I remember getting his autograph one time in the carpark at the G ... I was about 12, he was probably the biggest bloke I had ever seen, and as nice and friendly as you'd like.

Pendlebury's a fair rebuttal. One in a million player though. Bonner doesn't have that evasiveness. Sheezel can move well enough to the point that his slowness doesn't stick out. Likewise with Lipinski
There were a few times this year when Sheeze reminded me of Pendlebury with how he moved.

That's fair. I just don't think a team trying to build towards something has any use for players like him. Bergman, Fisher, Goater, McDonald (yes I know, but his best is much better than what he showed this year), Sheezel, and maybe Stephens or Scott should be able to handle his role. A bottom team picking him up is stagnating, plain and simple. It was the same with Tucker, but that was ok because the obvious jewel of that deal was Logue, not Tucker
If Tucker can run blocks for our other mids he has some value.

I agree with the rest of the comment (might add Dawson and Corr can both move well and have a bit of speed,) plus we may have someone (or two) from the draft to add to that group.

Patrick Voss and Sam Day still unsigned. Either worth a year as a break glass key forward?

If things click and we're up and about early in the season then I'd love to be chatting to Ben King and Aaron Cadman about a potential mid season trade.

We'll have a big hole at CHF and we could be looking good in most other spots if the Comben move back works, our draft picks are contributing and the others young players are fit and firing.

The other move to watch would be Sean Darcy's contract situation and whether we can bring him across after next season.

The dream being both of those moves + our young guys living up to expectations and we are looking at a really talented side.

FB: Corr - Logue - Archer/Bergman
HB: Reid/McKercher - Comben - Fisher
C: Scott - LDU - Stephens
HF: Zurhaar - King/Cadman - Sheezel
FF: George - Larkey - Curtis
Foll: Darcy - Wardlaw - Thomas

Int: pick from Duursma, Simpkin, Goater, Phillips, Ford, Powell, Lmac, Stevo, Xerri, CCJ...

Obviously the more likely scenario is modest improvement and another good draft/trade period in 2024 with hopes of climbing the ladder after that. But I can dream.

Don't rate Bergman?

Gonna be a good effort for our full back to play with just recently doing an ACL 😉

Personally don't mind bonner pretty elite user but def a flaw is his defending or lack or.... but if we were trying to get scrimshaw, bonner is similar user just a poorer version so the link makes sense to me

Presumably one of the required attributes of a defender, would be to at least occasionally get the sherrin in the course of defending, otherwise, what good is his kicking if he never gets it?"

Actually, in defence of Bonner, he has averaged 17.27 disposals a game in his 93 games, though he was down to 12.91 disposals a game this year.

Why would he never get it? Knowing he is a good user, his teammates would look for him... Blake Coleman doesn't overly defend but got it plenty on gf day first qtr particularly before they moved him
