Freo want a pick before West Coasts to take Collard. I think we should also be trying to move up the board but also keeping 5 picks.

How about Pick 17 to Freo for F1 tied to Collingwood.

Pick 6 & 11 from Melb for our F1 & 15

Head to the draft with 2, 3, 6, 11 & 18
And still have an F1 for 2024.
If Freo want to trade up for Collard they are seriously in dire straight.

There is no trade that I would make that involves our F1. It most likely going to be a top 4 pick next year

There is virtually no deal now that player trades are gone that would justify trading our F1.

No realistic (or even unrealistic) pick swap would hedge against the risk.
It's entirely speculative on my part, but the list management strategy next year might well switch to trading out high picks (incl the 2025 F1) for quality players to fill specific list needs (similar to Brisbane with Neale, Cameron, Daniher). If things go well this draft, we'll have banked enough elite young talent, and can look to the next phase.

Another reason to not contemplate trading out the 2024 F1

Thoughts on “beast mode” or the “barometer” as he I known as a rookie purely as depth but mainly for our VFL midfield? His VFL form has been exemplary and I enjoyed his interview this morning on SEN. A good twos team goes a long way to ones success I believe.

Good.

We should enable them if the deal is advantageous for us.

I wouldn't want Collingwood's F1. I would want theirs. I would probably settle for Port's and the ability to death ride them again.

It is highly probable that it is another top 4 pick and as such we would need comparable in return for it.

Which is too higher risk for a death ride outside of probably West Coast.

How come?
Because, I’ve seen us win say, 12 games in the last 4 years and I’ve been to 80% of those matches. There hasn’t been much to smile about except the absolute elite talent we have gotten through the door with our top echelon of picks. JHF came first and say what you want, he was a freak and still is, obviously he left and it helped us land Sheeze and the Warlord, we have another opportunity to land similar talent this year and with your trade you are throwing out our only chance to do it next year too. Whilst we are down an out I want to stack as much “crème of the crop” to our list as we can. When we come around and finish on the cusp of finals or just in finals then I’ll happily accept mid first round picks but not now.

Yes but in my scenario we are getting pick 6, another very talented junior with an extra year in the system.

If North passed up on Sheezel/Wardlaw for Ginbey and Hewett, we'd be freaking out we would make the same mistake again.

Gotta disagree there, they'll get plenty out of Ginbey and Hewett and it really would have been for Wardlaw as we would have drafted Sheez at 1. That was good trading and drafting for them.

I do recall similar panic on here leading into JHF at 1 so I get the WC fans panic on Reid or the prospect of losing him for a token trade.

Yeh I wouldn't mind Ports either. I don't think we are getting their future first though.

Richmond look to be signing Sam Naismith as a DFA. Ex-Swans ruck.
