Agree.

It was a win, but I wouldn’t be getting overly excited about beating a listless GC in a dead rubber game.

They looked like they didn’t even get off the plane.

Have a look at the calibre of players these guys are naming as our saviours for next year …
C-D graders at best . They are all in conversation of being delisted week in week out here on BF.

Oh dear... yes was a dead rubber and yes was a team only a couple of spots ahead but they showed a lot today. Could have just gone the motions and walked away with the spoon and number 1 pick. But instead showed character, broke a losing streak both in Tassie and the ssn, got a much needed win on board to keep them going into the break then pre season. Great win... and particularly pleasing for powell Phillips, Goater and Dawson...

Was a good showcase too... and Gold Coast had Hardwick to perform too

TT experiment off hb is over and sheezel will be fwd, so be just the other two plus clearly going to invest in that area in the off ssn

BLUES NOT INTERESTED IN MOVING YOUNG

CARLTON defender Lewis Young will not be part of the trade merry-go-round despite being pushed down the key position pecking order in a competition where clubs are desperate for shutdown defenders.

Carlton has overlooked him in the past month for Caleb Marchbank and the impressive Brodie Kemp, with the newly re-signed Mitch McGovern to return this week against GWS.

But Young, re-signed this year to 2026, is well aware of the issues he needs to improve in his game and is buckled up for the fight of winning his spot back.

The Blues suddenly have envious defensive depth, even if Lachie Plowman will move on in the final season of a heavily back-ended deal.

BROCKMAN LIKELY TO REQUEST TRADE

HAWTHORN is bracing for Tyler Brockman to request a trade in the next fortnight despite their strong work helping him and his young family acclimatise to Melbourne life.

Brockman has played 15 games this year as an exciting small forward but was dropped last week.

His likely landing spot is West Coast given Fremantle has plenty of medium and small forwards including Sam Switkowski, Michael Frederick, Lachie Schulz and Sam Sturt.

A recent dinner with Eagles forward Liam Henry in Melbourne made him realise how much he was missing playing in a city close to his family.

If the Eagles could secure him at a modest cost their forward line would include Jamie Cripps, Liam Ryan (back after hamstring surgery), young small Noah Long, Oscar Allen and Jack Darling.

HOW WILL INJURY IMPACT WINGARD?

HAWTHORN is moving forward on talks with injured half forward Chad Wingard after excellent results from his Achilles surgery.

Wingard has been deep in talks with the Hawks in the weeks leading up to his torn Achilles, and the club was keen to see how that surgery went.

The next step for the Hawks is ensuring there are no complications with infection or any other delays which could push a nine-month recovery out to a year.

But it is understood the Hawks do still want to contract the popular Wingard so it would take a change of mind for them not to move ahead on a new deal.

That contract might have more incentives or even be a lesser sum but it will give him the chance to extend his career, with Wingard still only 30 at a Hawks club with so many young players.


REID LIKELY NORTH BOUND DESPITE DEES MEETING

MELBOURNE’S hopes of securing Harley Reid have plummeted but the Demons still put in their due diligence this week by meeting the Tongala junior star.

The Roos are likely to have the No.1 overall pick, which means Melbourne will now need to trade with North Melbourne, which seems extremely unlikely.

The strong market for Ben McKay - who is averaging 3.8 intercept marks a game - means the industry is now very confident he will depart on a deal sufficient to hand the Roos the No.2 overall draft pick.

It means the Roos could pick up Reid and then key back Daniel Curtin.

But the Demons still met with Reid and given they have the Fremantle pick (No.5 overall) they could still offer up some kind of package to secure Reid.

HENRY TO MAKE CALL AT SEASON’S END

FREMANTLE’S Liam Henry will make a decision on his future in the days after the round 24 clash against Hawthorn, with every sign pointing to him asking for a trade to a Victorian club.

The Herald Sun revealed in March that Henry was likely Victoria-bound, with the No.9 draft pick putting off all talks with the Dockers and rival clubs until season’s end.

Despite links with the Pies, Collingwood has not made contact about securing him as a wingman.

He has played the best season of his four-year career with 15 games averaging 20 possessions.

But while the Dockers played hard-ball with many of their departing stars last year he is the only real list issue for Fremantle so they would likely agree to a trade.

Let’s look at this way don’t have to a rocket scientist to work out after yesterday Turner Howe then move forward to the VFL today Spicer Drury and Edwards are done and with retirements of Hall Cunnington Zieball maybe Sheils and Goldstein which I hope gets 1 more year.
Then on the injured side Mahoney is done with a ? Over Coleman Jones still hearing is still not right.
That’s 12 players that are maybe done.

Don't think Drury will go just yet, also not sure spicer and even think edwards is finally making progress. But agree with others so still be ten or so... I'd given both Shiels and Goldie another depending on lists/rookies.... think Perez and young will both go...

I think we'll need to find at least 9 vacant spots on the main list. Possibly 10 or 11.

It could be that a couple of them find places on the rookie list, but that'll mean the likes of Howe, Shiels and Turner get moved on.

I think that Spicer and Edwards are finally showing improvement, and, ideally would like to keep them.

If we did get Watson, the forward half pressure with Watson and Spicer playing is potentially off the scale.

Hopefully, we've asked the AFL to let us keep the two extra rookie spots for another year.
