Who is everyone’s pick to play the main distributor off HB role this year?

Question marks over Hall. (can he stay injury free? Are there more dependable kicks / decision makers available?)

TT too. (still not confirmed he’s gonna be switched down back? Will he defy his critics and become a solid week-in week-out contributor?)

Or is there anyone else we reckon could play the role well?
The Goat and Perez to be our half back flanker distributors next year

B: McDonald McKay Corr
HB: Goater Logue Perez

16. Bon

32 games in 5 years indicates the problem. He can’t stay on the park for prolonged periods. When he is fit he is a developing medium defender with good speed & skills. Can play on smalls but has mainly been used on taller types even though he is only 188cms. There is a fair bit of competition for medium defenders so will need a better run with injuries to nail down a spot.

Speed, skills and athleticism is the word on him but I simply haven’t seen it. I have no qualms picking him up for the cost but for mine he is way way back in the pecking order

I’d argue Jackson Archer will go past him by end of the year

If I had my way Stephenson would do that role. But by all reports he's training as a forward, so there goes that idea I guess

My early early call for delisting

Ziebs , hall to retire
Bonar , mahony

He’s an athlete that seconds guesses himself when he gets the ball - needs to be more instinctive but you’re either born with that or you’re not.

He’s just not good enough. Injuries aside too.

I don't like to criticise players but i have to agree with you going on what I have seen of him so far. Maybe Clarko will be the difference and if he earns his chance, he needs to take it with both hands.

17. Lachie Y

A quiet achiever who at 23 & 43 games should now take his game to the next level. 10th in Syd shows he has improved a fair bit. A good size & not slow so has some athletic gifts. His decision making improved in 2022 hence less turnover. He seems the dependable under rated guy that all premiership sides have but who also is the first delisted when the side has a downturn like Liam Shiels.

I think that Lachie will be better in a better side. He had moments but really only elite defenders would have looked good in this side last season. He isn't elite but he is good enough and will have more support this season.

I do wonder if he and Archer are competing for the same spot in the backline.

I’d say he is probably competing with Corr, Dawson, Ziebell and Bonar for that 3rd tall/intercepting role.

Then you have the likes of McDonald, Hall, Perez, Archer, Scott, Goater, Tucker, Bergman and Turner competing for the mid/small roles.

Corr, McKay, Mcdonald
Hall, Logue, Archer

Then 2 of the above on the bench

So our last game of season 2022 went like this.

I could name three in the backline that probably could be delisted without a concern, all are OOC this year. For mine it's Dawson or Young not both. And Dawson at 194cm offers more I'd suggest.

.

Minus JHFF I probably retain only 13 of the others- good grief no wonder we allowed 34 shots against that day.

oh well indeed.

18. Hugh

A good investment given Cunners illness woes. Has the opportunity to form a hard nut ball winning one-two combo with Cunners this year. Came to us with a pre-existing knee injury and was bandaged up early in the year. His mature body and inside craft will protect & educate the younger mids but at 30 years old has to make the most of his opportunities as the young mids will hopefully learn quickly and go past him.

Enjoying your reviews, thank you.

Don’t think Greenwood and Cunners can play in the same team. Just too slow. I’m hoping Greenwood will spend the majority of 2023 in the VFL (which might be a bit stiff since Noble lured him out of Gold Coast).

Yep, im thinking Hugh will spend most of the season in the vfl acting as a mentor for the younger fringe mids. Unless of course injuries of course.

19. Griff

A 24 year old top ten draft pick is a great pick up for us. He changes the dynamics of the backline with his ability to both intercept & play on a variety of forwards. This allows other defenders to play more natural roles than they have in recent years. This in turn allows the younger defenders to develop with better match ups. Should be a key part of our defence for at least the next 5 years.
