Dow and Phillips couldn't play together. Can't have two smallish mid that don't kick the footy well.

And leaving that aside, if we got Reid and McKurcher and Sheezel plays mid, I actually don't see how either would play moving forward.

I still think we should play sheezle like giants play Greene. 80-90% forward and let him cook.

Dow is tallish and a good runner

Just checked. You're right, he's not small. He looks small !

Anyway, LDU, Sheezel, Reid, Powell, the tassie kid, Simpkin..have to be really careful here. Can't waste stuff on blokes who can't play multiple spots and are behind those blokes. It's just burning useful picks.

I'm intrigued by the Watson talk and it shows how much has to play out, McKay compo etc. If we went in with 2 and 3 I could see completely drafting McKercher and Watson. If we went in with what we know now, pick 2 and Eagles drafting Reid I wonder if somebody like the Dees would come in for 2 to get McKercher (or Curtin) because you'd feel confident Watson would be at that pick.

We thought Judas asking for a trade on the eve of the trade period was a rollercoaster - this one may be a week staying in Disneyland.
Personally think we need to take Curtin and one of those 2. Curtin fills a need but also WC need to be under no illusions if they want him there is no trading down past our picks as they won't get him. Watson also appears to be a need, moreso than another mid if we're gifted Sanders. But an intriguing thing was Sander's interview on gettable and the way he was talking up the synergies between he and McKercher and how great it would be to play together at AFL level. Don't know what that means, perhaps both at north, perhaps one day for the Tassie team. Ultimately ending up with Reid, Watson, and Sanders is a possibility. Just depends how WC really see Curtin.

Not sure if you're genuinely asking or trying to make an argument against picking a small forward at pick 2.

If you're making the argument, I absolutely hate this argument and it simplifies things in a way that is not helpful. We're talking about a unique player who has his own strengths that are different from any small forward that has come before him. Performance-wise and athletically, he is the best small forward prospect of all time, alongside Rankine. He is more versatile than any other small forward I've seen, in that he can play as a defender or forward, and can also pinch-hit in the midfield.

Clumping him into 'small forward' and citing that other small forwards haven't gone top 5 is lazy.
Even though I favour Mckercher over wiz, I would love either of them, or both (From what I’ve been told, we are very keen on Curtin). The criticisms over Watson’s height, rather than his ability or other footy attributes, seem so lazy to me.

The height issue being brought up is particularly frustrating as he uses his lack of height to his advantage all the time.

I'm not sure why but winning his fair share of forward 50m free kicks has somehow been turned into a negative. This is one of the benefits of him being short and learning how to manoeuvre his body - the kid is a smart footballer who is incredibly agile and it's difficult to lay a finger on him - players don't adjust their body to tackle low and catch him high all the time.

We should be salivating at the prospect of him and Sheezel roaming the forward line alongside guys like Larkey, George, Zurhaar etc.

Yeah I'd have no issue with Mckercher either. My preference is Watson, but we can't really lose with a combination of Watson/Curtin/Mckercher.

I lean hard towards Watson because I think he's the most talented player, plays in a difficult position to fill and if we get Sanders, I'm ok with our midfield.

Yeah, this is where I sit.

The only thing I can see as a benefit in the laziness of the way Watson is being judged is that to some degree it could dictate his place on other draft orders in the top few picks so while I don't believe he is necessarily a pick 2, that's more because we could either trade down or up, based on the (what seems to be available to best home) GC pick. A combo of Reid/Curtin and McKercher if McKay gets band 1 and then anticipating Watson to go past Hawks and Demons. With the Hawks supposedly into Duursma, what would the Dees do there?

I do think that once you are below a certain height, as a forward, then you are better off being shorter.

A 180cm forward isn't going to be using their height to their advantage. They are either going to have to mark on the lead or sit on peoples heads.

May as well be 170cm and be harder to tackle, with elite speed and a freakish vertical.

Especially as I think Clarko sees footy as a ground ball game. All sorts of benefits by having an athletic small with elite footy skills/brain.

With that said speed on the outside, run and carry, repeat efforts, a huge tank, and tall defenders are also big needs.

Will be fascinating which way we go.

FWIW I'd go Watson and then either of Curtin or McKercher.

Could see them go for O'Sullivan here and more so, Mitch Edwards. A high quality rookie ruck ready to take over from Gawn and insurance if Grundy asks for a trade down the line.

Who is Watson's best AFL comparison?

Nah, the demons would love a player like Watson. He adds a lot of avenues to goal, he’d be a menace with the amount of ball they get going into their forward line already.
They’re mids are set with trac and Oliver, they’ve got a lot of run, they’ve got even got decent talls either end of the ground. He’s a perfect A grade talent to fall into their line up.

And if you remember at the time Kosi was an surprise pick, not many thought he’d go that early, if they rate him, they’ll pick him.

I find it interesting that with all the recent retirements of Hall, Ziebs and Cunners, and possibly Goldy (although I think he'll go on but not necessarily with us), there's been no talk of Turner, who is still holding a spot in the senior team with 3 games to go. Sure he hasn't been as decorated as the others, and he's been a whipping boy on occasions, but he's been a true heart and soul player for the club. Given it everything. Genuine Shinboner.

i have rachele as watto's comparison

but watto hits the scoreboard more
I expect he'll play in the VFL, I don't expect he'll be offered a spot on the primary or rookie list.
ive got him staying on the rookie list

culling others before him
