You don't pass up someone like Ben King if he wants to come to our club. Imagine what he could become under Sam Mitchell.
I am not sure we should be trading big currency for him but would be open to it for sure.

How people can possibly not rate a key forward that has kicked 40+ goals in his last 2 years at the suns as a 23 year old. He has played his entire career in a struggling rebuilding team, he is no where near his peak as a tall forward yet and is already playing at a high level.

You have King/Lewis you are set for the next 7-10 years.

One in the hand and what not, if Ben King wants to come then we make it happen.

I'd slide back two picks and give up a F1 if it gets us Ben King. Insanity not to consider it, especially with how tight the top 5 are in the open draft. Remember, the suns pick gets us one of:

Reid
McKercher
Duursma
Watson
Curtin
I think GC would want at least pick 2 so they get a pick in before Walter. Dont think he'll be bid on at 1.

King gc pick 5

For pick 3, future 1 and our 28

That gets the deal done imo if Walter is not bid on before three

They would need to find a way to get North to not bid on Walter at 2 (and possibly 3). Maybe Flanders under a gentleman's agreement.

Would people part with pick 3 for King if we could also land GWS' first rounder in a Haynes salary dump?

They could finish anywhere from 6th to 13th at this stage you'd think.

The Suns may not necessarily even be that keen for a selection that high this season due to a Walter bid. But it's worth considering all options here.

People aren’t ready for a fit Ben King as a second tall forward with Will Day and Jai Newcombe launching bullets onto his chest

King is absolutely someone we should throw everything at. If he wants to come, the cost will be the cost and we will need to be willing to pay what it takes to get the deal done.

If I could choose, we would want him at the end of next season. Ideally we take two more firsts this year & then demonstrate another year of progress in 2024. Then we should be at the point of trading draft capital for players of his calibre and taking free agents.

Can't ignore King though - KPF of his type, capability and age profile don't move often.

The exciting thing is we are moving into the territory where we are an attractive proposition again.

I struggle to see how we could get King done this year. Gold Coast won’t want early 2023 picks. If anything they are trading theirs out. Obviously our 2024 first pick would need to be a part of a King trade but that alone is not enough.

McKay is pretty average but he’s a free agent and an upgrade on Frost. Would take him

Is there any truth, that Ben King wants to come to us

I'd be sceptical of another Norf "warchest" scenario, where we have a stack of cash and are hoping that means everyone is interested. We aren't the basketcase North are, and the whole footy world seems to think we're on the up, but it's still a slippery slope. On the other hand, if he wants to come to Melbourne and all that decides the difference is cash we're in the box seat. Even better if he's coming here thinking we're his best shot at finals.

I don’t claim to have any inside knowledge big fella. What I do know is most things you’ve said over the years do not come true.

I’m not looking to get into some s**t fight, just warning for those newer members to not get their hopes up for all the names being thrown around in here.

Only way we get King is we trade up to get pick 1 trade this to GC for King and hope to get pick 5 in return. For GC they get Walter and Reid and we get King and still first round player. Probably fanciful like us getting King this trade period

Key position players take time to develop and are a high risk selection early in the draft. Midfielders are much less a risk.( and we are stocked up)
With Ben King we pretty much know what we are trading for.
So choice is Ben King or a high quality mid.
The club will make the right decision

Hawks - King, pick 5, F2, R3(points for McCabe)
Suns - Pick 3, F1, R2, R2(Brockman's compensation if he leaves, or a depth player traded out)

Suns would be in a strong position to take their 3 academy stars this year, and could trade pick 3 for more future picks, potentially leaving them with 3 first rounders next year, or try to trade up to pick 1 or 2.

Hawks get King, but also a crack at a top 5 pick, and a useful extra second next year to play with. Could end up with King, Duursma, McCabe..... in that scenario.

I think highly unlikely, but if Gold Coast are worried about King leaving next year, it could be a good time for them to strike to do something like the above give how big of players they need to be with their academy stars.

We cannot part with pick 3.
We can in exchange for Pick 5 & F1 and a player for King.

With King, my proposed trade would be

Hawks Out/ Sun In - Pick 3, F1, 30 + CJ
Hawks In/ Sun Out - Pick 5, F2, King ( + Suns last 3 junk picks)

Once Suns have Pick 3, they can trade for Pick 2 or even 1 by adding a needed player. Say Sharp + 26 + 3 for Pick 1 or Flanders + 3 for Pick 2. So may have to be multi club trade to go through.

Earlier I had put up a case for CJ & Suns fans were wondering if he was on the table.

PS : I liked CJ's brother Tew Jiath skills in the video posted, seemed a clone and would like to get him on list via late or rookie pick.
