We missed Clark in the midfield on Saturday.
His hands in close are underrated. Far superior to Steele and Ross

I think it was even more that having Steele on one leg and HC out meant that rotations were very thin. Dragging Gresham and Sincs in and not having similar replacements means that you are creating holes in other areas. That and Clark is just good player as well.

Maybe..?? He would change the whole way we play
Would be an enormous get

A more dominant ruck help cover a less dominant midfield but the really makes it hard to work out how to best use Marshall. Perhaps we drop him back across HB like we used to play McEvoy as a backline mop-up spare.

It will never happen and this is a pointless post but imagine if some how we got the first round pick

In 5 years time how would you stop a midfield a consisting of

Reid,
Phillipou
Owens

If we do some good trading this year and the next. We will be in a good position. It will be hard to trade out some of the player mentioned in this thread seeing as some of them are in our leadership group. It needs to happen though. We have good talent which is being let down by some of our more experienced players.

Gresham started in the midfield

He looks okay but hasn't had a great run in a gun midfield either. Worth a look. Fiding some of these guys sitting just off the pack is a way we might actually get asme precede talent in to a spartan midfield. Dev Robertson looks like the pick of them to me and most likely club to shake some loose from. They have so many coming through that must be feeling like games are a long way off.
Robertson would be a good get but I'd say West Coast would be the front runner for his signature

I said taking him out fo the forward line made holes elsewhere.

You can only throw an offer and show some love and see what happens. Playing under Lyon and if we make finals it might be more attractive than 5 years of rebuilding back home.

There are players at GC and others that are good as well. Jeremey Sharp and Neddy Flanders would be handy.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Im sorry but I have never been a big Billings fan, other supporters believe he is a good finisher, but for me he is more of a choker. My criticism is he consistently goes missing in big moments or big pressure games. Playing a good game every 10 doesnt cut it in my mind. He is currently depth so if we can get a reasonable offer for him perhaps a direct swap for TDK, then its time to part ways.

He's been playing midfield most of the year though, it wasn't a new thing to play him in there.

And Clark out of all of our kids has spent the least amount of time in there so I'm not sold his injury made a huge difference to how we would have played. Steele, Crouch, Ross and Gresham are the guys we've been backing in most along with Sinclair over the last few weeks. They just weren't able to get the job done.

Definitely worth throwing it out there with Robertson. No doubt going to a club that is just at the very start of a rebuild wouldn't look that exciting.

Flanders isn't a bad shout. From memory he was putting out some massive numbers through the middle in the last year's VFL finals.

I'd imagine he'd be keen to move on if he can't get into the senior side.

Not sure we'd get a lot for him but it would free up space to chase others.

If we get a half descent offer for him we take it. He will never reach the heights that we hoped. Got a long term contract so who bloody knows

As long as his best mate doesn't follow.

Ben king would have been handy in the last 10min when Caminity got out marked 100 times..

The way we delivered it they could have had Trav Cloke, NRoo, Jono Brown and Tony Modra in the front half and it'd be a fluke to mark it.

When we get tired we revert to the Richo/Ratts days of "just bomb it in there". It's night and day from the start of games to the end.

It's how we got Steele.
Take advantage of someone else's development and then swap them for a similar pick as when they were drafted makes a load of sense.

Robertson had 25 touches and 21 tackles on the weekend

Just checked Sam Flanders VFL stats. Over the last 8 games he's had 32, 32, 37, 46, 42, 30, 35 and 34.

Straight swap for Jack Billings.

Ive only seen him in the one game this year - what is his speed and break away clearance work like? He is an odd size almost Leigh Matthews like with short legs and a big torso, but if he can play it doesnt matter. In his draft year he was known as a hff so at least he can rotate forward with some confidence.

He had a pretty good burst of speed in his draft year. Pretty good at breaking away from a stoppage and quick on the lead when he was playing forward.

I haven't see a lot of him since then, just a couple of games for Gold Coast.

We should.

Put McLennan on the LTI and see if we can't keep the streak alive following Hayes, Sharman & Stocker.
McLennan is due back after the bye.

I'm not sure how long a player needs to be out for, but Hayes and Coffield look like they have another 5-7 weeks.

It doesn't sounds like we will be using a pick
