Footy isn't played that way anymore unless the 2nd ruck can play forward. Goldstein in over 300 games had shown little forward and Marshall second half of the year was the best ruck in the league, i wouldn't want him more forward then ruck. Hayden McLean would be an ideal option. Howard in a straight swap with the Swans could work.
McLean going nowhere!!

If we bring in Dow then there's some immediate much needed help in the midfield...

With all the smoke about Howard, JB & co, it does seem like we're trying to bring in multiple 2nd & 3rd round picks.

This means we either rate this draft's depth more than anyone else, or we're racking up picks to pass on to a certain club who needs those picks to cover multiple academy bids.

If that doesn't pan out then we let Toce go to work in November & go hard in the Finn Callaghan stakes in 12 months time.
Apparently the draft only goes around 40 deep so it’ll be fascinating to see our strategy

Talls we've taken in the national draft recently:

2022 #31: Van Es
2022 #44: Keeler
2021 #51: Adams
2020 #26: Allison
2020 #45: Highmore
2019
2018 #4: King
2017 #35: Clavarino
2016 #39: Battle
2015
2014 #1: McCartin
2014 #21: Goddard
2013
2012 #25: White
2012 #75: Pierce
2011 #60: Lever
2011 #68: Maister

2 hits out of 14 taken, with 2 of those still pending.

* taking talls in the draft, you can't pick enough of them to let the law of averages work in your favour.
Well looks like we have scored one in Keeler , 19yr old - 2m tall and has the skills of a mid.
He could end up being one of our best players looking at his highlights in the few games he played at Sandringham.
Also Max Heath is as raw as they come and at 2.04m and not the usually matchstick I really think he is going to be a player as well.
We have had a lot of misses with talls , hopefully our luck has turned.

It was only 12 months ago we were getting the plaudits with pretty clear stats saying when Marshall and Ryder both play we win alot more then we lose.

i think you could play both Goldstein and Marshall.

Infact, i think it gets King out of Full Forward and you can sit one ruck resting deep. You can let Caminiti or Sharman roam around.

lots of ways to cut this.

i like it.
Goldstien has been a topline ruck , but after watching 2 nth games this year he should of retired, time to find another ruckman who can replace Marshall if he goes down , Ryder could only manage 13 games a season , Goldstien will be lucky to play 1 next year after breaking down in preseason.

You know what's quite hard to find? What Freo actually paid for Henry. There's lots of blah-blah about SOS bidding on Henry at pick 9 but as we all know, academy players are picked up with junk picks.

They apparently used 49, 52, 55 and 58. So if Freo are ridiculous at the trade table, let's offer something comparable to what they actually used to draft him.

Reason #24601 why the points system is total :poo:

Love this attitude, and most of us are crying out for players with that mindset rather than quiet humble well-adjusted types that we have an excess of.

I notice watching games that in breaks of play, in the forward line its often Gresh who is doing the talking and pointing.

We could get rid of him, or...

We could indulge his need to be the big dog, give him a leadership role, let him crave the big stage and make him even more accountable for his performance as a team leader, see if he can drag the rest of us up.

His drive to improve his consistency and work on his weaknesses is the key here.
On the other hand.

He's had years to become the big dog.
He's had years to become a leader.
He's had years to show his drive to improve consistency.
He's had years to work on his weaknesses.

This was his big contract year. The big opportunity to show his worth and increase his currency.

And he didn't.

We're keen on Sam Philp apparently. SOS special.

“Silvagni is also a fan of 2019 first-round draft pick Sam Philp, who has been riddled by injuries at the Blues and shapes as a potential delisted free agent or rookie option for the Saints who are keen to bring in greater outside run.”

That wouldn't have given them enough points.

Oh God
SOS doing what he did when he went from GWS to Carlton, was hoping he had changed a bit

Dow - Philp we really are shopping at the $2 shop

Let Coff go because he hasn't got on the park and bring in Philp LOL

Just had a look, it took Max Gawn around 6 seasons before he was a "good" ruck.

I don’t mind the idea of improving players 30-45 on our list. This area has been really thin in years gone by and we don’t have much to choose from.
Bringing in some experience to improve our second 22 will only have a positive impact on the kids who are trying to develop at Sandringham.
Goldstein would be great for moose, Tomlinson for Van Es and so on.
Most good sides have some high calibre experienced players running around in their reserves. We have kids. Some who are years away from AFL footy.

We can continue to invest in the draft and improve the overall shape of our list.

Prefer to improve player list between 1 and 10
