Am I wrong in saying Clark is only an average kick? I see him mess up the hard pass more than I see him nailing it.

Early on he was the best two sided player I had seen since Leon Cameron. Don't see him on the left foot much anymore. This was one of his great attributes and used to make up for his lack of pace.

it would completely open the field up. If he finds that again he can still be effective. If he doesn't the critics will get louder, and with good reason.

Catch 22. Perfectly understandable.

But I still don’t know where we play him. His lack of pace inhibits various options.
Lyon played him in 19 games and I think was dropped only once, think he sustained an injury mid year. Lyon must see something in him.

Where do we play Clark?

He can’t spread. He can’t gut run defensively.

Beautiful kick and good hands. Good decision maker. But his mobility is a major deficiency.

I’m darned if I know where we put him.

It does but guys like Crouch and Ross won’t be around forever and he can fill one of those spots when the time comes. In the meantime we need to find more speed to put around him.

I think like all the players that we had grand plans to let go it comes down to are we better off with Clark or pick 30-40? It sounds like a great idea to trade players for picks until you realize we’re not going to get anything decent for them if they go.
All depends on whether that pick can be used in a package with others to get a better pick from somewhere.
Individually, you are correct though.

It’s probably been talked about but can’t believe Jack Peris was delisted! He has great speed , endurance and tackling pressure. Isn’t that what the game is all about at the moment. He no doubt has things to work on but surely a 1 year contract or rookie list was worth a go.

Back to hoping he fulfils his potential I guess
Either that or we accept the third rounder North may offer. It could have been pick 19 and 37 last year but that ship has well and truly sailed.

The asking price from us last season was madness.

Lyon obviously sees something there though. Played him in every game except for when he came back from injury.

Clarke is this Decade's Armo, every pre season there will be an interview stating he had his best ever pre season and ready for a big year. Start the season will have a couple of BOG's along the way but ultimately have a c-b grade season. And it will continue year after year.. My expectation of him being elite has diminished. Which is okay as long as we build a team in the next 3-5 years of A graders.

Re what Stav is saying.

Trading Billings Clark, Douglas etc won’t make as much of a difference next year as potentially getting in picks who can make an impact in the next 5.

Realistically out of the lists that are bandied only Howard is someone that we would realistically miss.

Gotta take the risk
Dougal is probably the only one that gets us a decent pick

Clark if he went to North would get very little as they have the threat of the PSD this year

Billings is probably a third rounder if anyone is willing to take on his contract.

Would love to see the stats, I doubt there are too many that kick on the opposite side as much as him.

In fact I think he does it too often

It’s hard not to look at Clark and think. You should be a good midfielder. He has talent.

I don’t have an issue with how we valued him last year and clearly we held a similar value this year. Otherwise why shop the guy?

I just hope it’s consistent and we do similar for Howard.

Herald sun I think reported earlier this week that we are happy to pay a portion of his 500k to get a second rounder for Billings

and theres the problem... thats where you let players walk and you get what you can for them

he's no brad hill/nas

he can pull off some good disposal when he shakes his opponent, but he's massively over-rated on here in terms of his disposal. he's shanked em badly. doesn't get enough time or space to dispose of it well enough because of his lack of leg speed

On the bench as a permanent sub!

His lack of spread wont be a problem (in theory) if he only plays 50% or less gametime every week.

West toast managed nic nat well in a similar way (even before the sub rule).

They sat him on the bench for half the game, so that he could maximise his usefulness for the other 50% when he was on the ground.
We could do similarly w clark

I’d play him off half back to be honest.

Well I saw him kick a left footed goal from 48 a few years back, he certainly doesn't use it as effectively as he used to.
Used it a few times on the weekend from memory. Kicked a deep entry from outside fifty that Max held onto for about 9/10 of a mark.

I don't think it goes noticed so much because it looks very natural but it definitely gets used a lot. Even when he has time to straighten up on his right, which frustrates me at times.
