if the 4th rounder gets on the park more than coffield.

It's a win.

Doesnt matter how talented coffield is.

And that there is the issue of Lyon building a list. He's a grunt over talent fan so would rather have a bunch of ordinary role players than uneven brilliance.

They have to be available. The fringe players who are too good for VFL will be the ones picked off. You have a side ready for finals who lose a forward and see value in a fit Membrey or any of our other senior depth.

Selling them for nothing doesn't do much. At the moment we are turning Gresham into Henry, our standing second round pick into Dow and then using a first rounder at the draft.

Losing guys like Coff and Billings for picks in the 30s and 40s and probably unlikely to use those picks. Unless we bundle a whole lot of s**t picks up for a club like GC, we look downgraded and lost all depth for a couple of GOPs and some late picks.

I understand their latest dream is to clear space to buy up other clubs versions of Billings and pay them a million bucks year to get a draft pick but not sure it's a winner.
Pretty sure their dream is hitting the draft hoping they get lucky with picks around the top 10

Tell me what return we'll get for Coffield

When I floated it 2 years ago, I got told I had NFI what I was on about, this convo about his worth 2 years later is music to my ears really, sitting here kinda chuffed that my tea reading was looking spot on that a call was to made on that years draft haul.

The more the years go by, the more we'll need to sell low instead of having positions of power to demand anything.

Let's remember, Hunter was the one that was the go to for midfield minutes from day dot, Coffield was the "in case of emergency lets just trial him" option, then 2020 happens and great guns all fired phwoar, 21 happened and didn't reach those same heights that can be classed as covid, form fluctuations, "2nd year" blues for consistency bias or any number of things and you're not needing to sell, if someone comes in they are buying high, ball is in your court.

As history shows, he did ACL and has soft tissue since for you to ask this question of his worth in the market.

If I was in a club buying, I'd be picking at this corpse as the years pass as you have squandered your position and that bloke is entering prime age range.

Surely we’re taking the piss arguing 1+1 rather than straight two.

We’ve had spuds like Newnes be on our list for like 10 years and Hannerby for 5 before we gave them the arse but now we draw the line on someone who could be a top 10 player on our list.

I’m behind most of the decisions being bandied here but if we lose Coff over 1 year then that’s stupid as ****.

Owens will rip the throat out of a game in 15 mins in a big final one day by doing Mitchito things. At the ground it will be like Moses parting the seas. On t.v it will look ho hum. At the ground the opposition will look like a beaten rabble. 15 mins of ripping a game apart by the throat. He'll get the job done because he can.
Owens is the first player I have seen that wills him self to win the football since Fyfe and Dangerfield and one stat that blew me away in basically his first full season in the seniors he won the most contest ball in the AFL between the Arcs and he played most of the season in the forward line.

We have a superstar , can't wait for next season.

Normally that’s not a silly idea, however next year’s a strong midfielder draft

Look at a lot of the underage players from last year that were going to be stars. Moir, Philactides, Lorenz etc. You draft now and worry about next draft next draft unless it's going to be a super draft and even then.

I think the thing for Coff is he probably feels he needs to and wants to play if he's going to revive his career.

With us right now there would be no guarantee he's in the best 22 come round 1 or though I'm sure there is a pathway back it might not be easy.

If there is a club that tells him, we will play you round 1 then I'm sure that's very tempting for him.
Exactly. The contract is one thing, but imagine him asking the coaches "who's spot do I take when I'm in the 22?"

Wilkie Cordy Webster
NWM Battle Windy
Sinclair

It's a pretty settled back 7.

Coff isn't big enough to replace Cordy or Howard. I don't know if he's really the guy you want on a small lock down assignment either, so Webster or a more apt replacement. I guess he's more of an interceptor than a lockdown type, so you're playing a different game if you put him in Battle's place and it's hard to see Wilkie being displaced.

Do the coaches see him replacing Windy, Nas or Silklair? Windy maybe if he gets more midfield time. The other two are already stars and you'd doubt Coff can displace them at this stage.

So the coaches might be tempted to chuck him on a wing, except we've got Hill and Henry on the right where I think Coff plays. Hill is old but still firing, who knows about Henry but we're going for him, it's not so he can be an emergency.

Where does Coff play and who goes out? If that's not an easy answer and we're quibbling over years and salary, Coff's decision must be to seek a starting line up role and greater financial security elsewhere, hard as it is for us to accept.

I absolutely see him as our next Tom Lynch or Joel Smith unfortunately, particularly if he goes to Brisbane. I'd take their FRDP and Shadeau Brain for him.

this dated a day ago,is the mckay to hawthon hysteria after this broke or have things swung again?

If things go to plan for Essendon, they will be acquiring both Ben McKay and Jade Gresham in free agency. The Bombers are firming to be the preferred destination for both players, they are just waiting on the official nominations.

I would love to see North trade pick 11 and something for pick 4 and then with pick 2, 3 and 4 pick each of the Suns academy players, bahahaha, it would be a beautiful thing to watch the Suns points be burnt up so quickly - it reminds me of the parable about the frog and the scorpian :)

I would assume any deal the Suns do with North for pick 4 will involve a "hey don't bid on our guys" agreement.

He fights it out with for the sub role or last spot on the bench.

By the end of the year he could absolutely be back in our best 22

FB: Webster - Cordy - Wilkie
HB: Windhager- Battle - Sinclair
C: NWM - Steele - Wood
HF: Sharman - King - Hill
FF: Butler - Membrey* - Higgins
R: Marshall - Crouch - Owens
I: Henry - Ross - Phillipou - Stocker**
S: Coffield/Clark/Byrnes/Dow/Jones/Billings/Paton/DMac

*Could be Hammer, Hayes or Cordy depending our FB option/form etc

**Stocker last in/first out IMO. Sub list could easily take that spot.
Forgot Stocker. Another one Coff has to dusplace though more of a lock down type again.

Actually thinking about guys that have dropped away this year, Cooper Simpson had an interrupted year but was one to watch in this year's draft. Mid forward and should be cheap. Think he won one of the awards for under 17s last year.

We missed out on Flanders but Simpson might make up for it.

Dow.

Won't be an exact trade but I assume whatever pick we get in for Coff would just be handed to the Blues for Dow.

Not concerned about their last few rounds results then, be a while before the Bombie's play finals.

Though their recently bungling of the player payments saw Grundy and Treloar moved on. Both better players than we may be exiting.

They also have some handy players at other clubs like Stephenson (A pick 6) and Witts. Now yes Witts was fringe when he left, but is certainly an example of a Pies player making good at his new club.
Exactly. Probably a better ruck than the Pies current one. Do you think the Pies care?

The Suns have the better player. The Pies have the better team. We need to think team first to get anywhere.

The issue is if he's on a long term contract playing footy in the twos. Look at the situation with Billings.

People seem to have it as this no-brainer that Coffield will be a gun once he comes back from injury. If that was a certainty then he'd have a long term contract in front of him.
Yeah I don’t think anyone is suggesting a long term contract

We definitely need to upgrade our kicking skills so I've been keeping a close eye on one player in particular - former high draft pick, captain of his underage team, been playing mainly off the hbf in the AFL but could run through the midfield, still only 23.

Currently not getting a regular game at his side but has a DE of 82% across his career.

He won't cost a lot - two year contract should do it - best thing - we won't even need to get him a jumper.
