Let Gresham go at 750k over 3 years to trigger band one compo (fine to match if the offer is significantly lower) and gain pick 13
Trade pick 51 for Shiel and pick 68 (pure salary dump for Essendon to allow them to get McKay and Gresham)
Trade pick 31 for Henry
Trade future second for Dow and future fourth

Net result is Gresham out, improved midfield depth/talent pool and two first round picks in. Would be a good step in the right direction and then we could really go after a big name next year to push us into contention along with natural improvement of the kids.

Sure about that? About half the league is looking for experienced key backmen right now, (including us shhhhhh) they don't grow on trees either.

Dougal has held down a key back post with two different clubs and is already an experienced senior player with finals experience, he's also very rarely injured and despite his whipping boy status here, very rarely gets a bag kicked on him. I would be very surprised if we weren't offered a mid FRDP at least in this seller's market.

But even if it's a late FRDP, I did a pick calculation last week and found that in terms of points, pick 17 + pick 13 is equal to pick 3. North could benefit more from slinging us their pick 3 and ending up with a mid FRDP and a ready to go key backman for the next 6 or so years, than they could doing a straight swap for a late round pick.

They've got a stack of young mids already who were high picks, and will probably be guns, but a massive hole at either end of the ground.

It can't only be about the future for the Roos, they've got a gun footy creche but are going to be smashed from pillar to post mercilessly for the next 5 years unless they get some decent seniors in their squad.

If they let Howard go to another team who'll pay a bit more, what other options do they have for key backmen trades? Anyone coming through in their squad?
Yeah I think it's a zero chance we get a mid first for him

Even less than zero chance that North will want to downgrade their pick 3

North are probably the only club that I think would be willing to give a first at all but that is because they have an abundance of late firsts, some which almost have to be traded

Anyway, time will tell I guess

According to StKilda_Insider on Instagram the Saints have shown interest in Brodie McLaughlin 193cm forward from the GCS. He kicked 51 goals in the VFL this year.

I don't know why we are chasing another taller forward but perhaps we are looking to send one back. Looks bad for Memberey if we pick him up too.

Been away for work for 3 days, check this thread and there have been over 50 pages added.

This time of year goes off in the Saints thread.

Coff to stay? Jones to stay? Dow not a lock? What else is going on

Apparently various Asian food can be good or bad, hot or mild and may or may not involve some massaging of your old fella

Yeah I missed some important stuff, although while away I had some Take away chinese in Burnie that I believe had more msg and flavouring than food

Zak Jones is only 28, you guys are acting like he is 33...

His body has only made it through one full season in his 9 year career. Chasing Shiel who has similar issues seems insane. Are we a retirement home for broken down players? Yet happy to push Coffield out after 2 years with injury that doesn't seem chronic.

Future second for Dow is overs. He's no guarantee to be best 22 even in a thin midfield. I'd rather take the second in next years draft. There is a very good chance we drop away next year. Could be a very decent pick in a better midfielders draft. I'd try to use picks up later in this draft. It's a bit of a dice roll after about pick 30.

Reckon there’s a big enough body of work to suggest Zac Jones body isn’t up to it, nor is his kicking.
Prefer to take a 12 month flier on a state league player

Probably a balance. You need some continuity and leadership. Perhaps he's a good character off field. You'd think that DMac might be in trouble though. Can't see both staying on the list.
