anything else we match and either force a trade or keep him.

SURELY weve planned for this and Dodoros genius plan amounts to nothing.

I really can't figure out what Essendon achieves by taking this long to make a formal offer... Surely just offer whatever they are willing to offer and get on with it... If we want to match afterwards based on what compensation we are given that is our perogative and surely not Essendon's concern. Either they struggle with math or really don't want to risk a trade.

I think the injury to Shiel, plus the opportunity to get Duursma, has thrown out their planning.

Originally it seemed simple -

Pay Gresh enough to get band 1. We then trade our 1st pick for Shiel and a couple of 2nd rounders. Flip a 2nd rounder for Henry and everyone's set.

Bombers get Gresh + 13
We get Shiel + Henry + 30ish

With Shiel getting hurt our interest went down, then Duursma came along...

Essendon will likely need to part with a 2nd rounder , plus BZT, to get that deal sorted meaning they don't have the picks we want for Henry, meaning we are more inclined to match and keep Gresh.

My guess: Essendon are trying to re-work a couple of contracts to free up the extra space they need to pay Gresh AND bring in Duursma, something that was clearly not going to happen until about a week ago.

They are entitled to leave it as late as 5pm tomorrow night. Clearly Dodoro is stringing us along, it’s his modus operandi, but he is allowed to leave the lodgement of the paperwork until the deadline.
