Phil Davis raised some really good points about this the other day on trade radio.

He basically said that the more youngsters on the list, the more stretched your development program becomes and it can result in underwhelming results for players who clearly had talent pre draft.

He essentially insinuated that there is an optimal youth/experience mix ratio, that allows effective mentoring and quality development.

I thought it was very insightful.

Obviously experienced it at gws
Gold Coast has been an example of how it can go so poorly

Let them take the kids start to develop them and we can steal them in 3 years when we are in the window.

I watched him playing VFL. If people on here think Gresham is a s**t kick, Dow was like a human turn-over machine. He was truely terrible by foot. Like every kick going straight to an opposition player for an easy mark in space. I was stressed for him. When he got back this year he played with in his limitations and looked much better but kicking efficiency can be a stat worth watching at times.

If he can kick further than 30 meters he is better than Gresham

Must be salary cap stretched with their recruits coming in.

I think NAS is a star and wouldnt consider trading him for many, but for butters it would be a possibility. Butters is exactly what our team needs.

Apparently the threat of matching an Essendon bid for Gresham, if band 2 or even band 3, is a ‘bluff’. I think Dermott Brereton said that. We just have to suck it up and deal with it.

Development is also up to the individual and the people mentoring.
All clubs now have a abundance of coaches and senior players to cover development of kids , however some clubs just don't make them work hard enough to bring the best out of them and I would say GWS is one that sticks out.
You only have to look at Windhager and Owens they had more determination in them than any of the high draft picks we have picked up over the last 10yrs.

A lot of these high draft picks get way over confident and when put under pressure they get found out and it's up to the club to find the right mix to get the best out of them.
Whoever at our club at the moment who have been over looking our current kids are doing a brilliant job.
