He should have tanked so we can cheat the system and get him for nothing.

Ooops he did no work to get in shape for the combine! That's a shame. Hopefully that doesn't make other clubs pass. That would definitely be really really bad for us and not exactly what we want.
If only life was that simple

Turn it on and off like a tap

Yes it could be a blessing though

What?!?!? Hands down this is one of the dumbest things on this bloody forum.

What does running 2km in a straight line without a football and without any physical contact have to do with repeat efforts on the AFL football field?

Welsh is going to be a forward. He needs fast bursts and quick recovery - not 2km endurance. The fastest 2km trial run is 6 minutes - when in the history of the AFL has an AFL forward had to run continuously for 6+ minutes without a break?!??!!? He is going to be required to recover quickly - not sustain physical performance for 6 mins without a break.

The bulk he has will allow him to endure the hits at AFL level. Unless of course you want to turn Tyler Welsh into a rebounding half back flanker his first year - you absolute pork chop.
He’s fat. That’s the problem.

Also, you need a tank to be able to back up repeat efforts. Mutineer is spot on.

The list of top 10 names in the 2km time trial each year going back to 2017 (when it was first held) are largely filled with players that either never played a game or were battlers. There are some decent players in there too of course, but a far larger percentage never made it.

No one needs him to be top 10

Another non sensical argument

Inside story: Mark Ricciuto and Ralph Carr detail Adelaide’s big bid for Richmond star Dustin Martin in 2017

How hard did Adelaide go for Dustin Martin during the 2017 season? The Crows had just lost Patrick Dangerfield and went deep into the bank balance to find a replacement superstar. But did he ever consider the move?

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL News. Followed categories will be added to My News.

Dustin Martin’s manager says Adelaide was a serious contender for the signature of the now three-time Norm Smith Medallist when he contemplated leaving Richmond in 2017, with the Crows matching North Melbourne’s mega offer to the superstar. After Adelaide football director Mark Ricciuto revealed how the Crows made a big play for the Tigers superstar, Martin’s manager Ralph Carr told The Advertiser ‘Dusty’ was open to a move to South Australia.

Thats what the club tried to do: Here are your thoughts:

This one didnt let me direct quote for some reason but I copied and pasted.

"I don't get all this Dustin Martin talk as I just can't see him as passing the AFC character test, not even close.
Anyone that doesn't think he's a high risk "commodity" is looking at the situation with blinkers on especially given his checkered past, the company he keeps and his family ties. I want success for the AFC as bad as all our supporters but in Martin's case I don't think he's the answer when the inherent risks are weighed up."

I'd sooner go after Reece Conca who is also yet to resign apparently citing "homesickness" and a possiblereturn to Perth.....hey we're half way!!

Ask yourself why Collingwood/Buckley, and more to the point Carlton/Malthouse and Melbourne/Roos who have REAL deficiencies in their midfields have all decided to give Martin a wide berth??? I'm sure all 3 including 2 of whom are recent premiership coaches are infinately better equiped and better informed than any of us of the risks involved in bringing Martin to their respective clubs and cultures. There is a reason why they are not prepared to take that punt!!!!!

But Sando/AFC should????
I don't think so, Martin is a nothing but a mercenary/gun for hire obviously after the way he has treated the Tigers who have bent over backwards to accomodate him both on and off the field.

Add this to the fact you didnt want Rankine because we had Jimmy Rowe (and used his SANFL form as proof). Terrible terrible judge of football talent you are.

I wonder why one of the more talented kids from SA didn’t receive a national combine invite

Head scratcher

Maybe there is something in it re his lack of professionalism, it’s more than just a 2km time trial . That’s the point

Yep, his 20m sprint and vertical leap weren’t too shabby - these are the critical criteria for a player of his type.

None of which changes the fact that the club did pursue Dusty, it's on the public record from his manager Ralph Carr, my thoughts are irrelevant.

If they are a complete joke why are all club recruiters there?

It's more about seeing how hard the draftees are prepared to push themselves especially with the 2km run.

Looking at Tyler yesterday he looks like he's been dining out on a mix of Macca's and Vili's since the SANFL season finished. From that recruiters would likely question his self discipline.

Same thing happened with another SA lad a few years ago Will Gould who put on a lot of "condition" between season's end and the Combine....Drafted by the Swans and now back at Glenelg struggling.
Really disappointed with Tyler’s efforts yesterday as he should be aware and particularly with a dad who played well at the highest level what is needed to perform and obtain sustained success

To come back in that shape is simply not showing to the club and AFL you are truly serious about your career. He needs to work bloody hard over the next month or so to get that condition removed and get some aerobic fitness back into his game

It is Interesting. Especially considering he dominated with 17 disposals, 10 marks and eight goals in his lone Under 18s appearance – for Woodville-West Torrens. The 191cm forward was also South Australia’s leading goalkicker at the National Championships. He also kicked 5 at SANFL level for the Crows as a 17 year old 6 weeks ago.

Perhaps he didnt want to go?!?!? All across the world - professional athletes decline to go to combines for various reasons.

You really think that Tyler Welsh is not a top 50 rookie in this years draft??

Apologies - I left out the "should" in my post. You were vehemently against Dustin Martin and also Rankine.

Let me rephrase:

Apparently we have a special cultural "test" (according to Bicks) that players have to pass... Thats what SHOULD HAVE stopped us going after that hack Dustin Martin - thank god!

And then I quoted it!

Yep, his 20m sprint and vertical leap weren’t too shabby - these are the critical criteria for a player of his type.
His vertical jump 60cm is still well off the other forwards at the National Combine Stumpf 79cm, Whitlock 75cm, Burmeister 74cm, Faull 71cm and fellow SA forward Charlie West 70cm.

That might be the case if he didn't look out of shape physically...this tanking crap is just that...crap

I don't think his condition in a 6 month period leading up to the draft is all that problematic. Particularly if it's advantageous to one party for him to look as bad as possible.

If he was fit and playing good football before that, I'm not sure why you'd place any focus on just a couple of months

Dustin Martin also left school early to focus on footy, maybe not the best comparison.

I agree though, we need crowbots who have McHenry like work ethic above everything else.

This gem from Bicks was in January of 2017. Was glad we didnt land Dusty in 2014 because of the negative cultural impact he would have on our squad.

I am yet to see someone get something more wrong on big footy..... Imagine being glad you didnt land the player that would go on to win 3 out of the next 4 Norm Smith medals and win 3 flags. Flabbergasting

We don't want him to get a national combine invite.

There is nothing about a talented footballer getting national attention that works in our favour when we have priority access

Sheehan was on SEN and said that the6 need a few clubs to list the player before they get an invite. They then add high end players like Ashcroft that don't appear on lists because they're not genuinely available. Given he's a F/S and already at our club, plus predicted to go latish, it's not that surprising he didn't get an invite.

That's absolute rubbish with Rankine, all I ever said was Rowe had performed similarly at SANFL regards scoreboard results.

If that's vehement then I guess I'm guilty, my only concern with Izak was his onfield discipline.

We have an 18year old we haven’t even got on our list and we want to hang him already, go somewhere else Tyler

I desperately want him at the club and I'm backing him to do the right thing, which is put on a performance that makes him look absolutely terrible

As Nicksy would say, prioritising the team and others
