He’s fat. That’s the problem.

Also, you need a tank to be able to back up repeat efforts. Mutineer is spot on.

Spot on... Thats what recruiters are really looking at.

When they look at the draft of 50 completely polished and AFL ready draftees - Tyler Welsh's 2km time trial is gonna push him to the back of the bus!!

FML, I knew I had it wrong, that's the comic character right?
Yep.

That's absolute rubbish with Rankine, all I ever said was Rowe had performed similarly at SANFL regards scoreboard results.

If that's vehement then I guess I'm guilty, my only concern with Izak was his onfield discipline.

Ha ha ha - you didnt want to trade Rankine because we had Jimmy Rowe - who had performed better at SANFL than Rankine had at NEAFL level.

And you didnt want Dusty because he didnt fit the Adelaide Football Club culture test.

Stand by your absolutely terrible, woeful calls. Add them to your Jones / McHenry howlers.

No one needs him to be top 10

Another non sensical argument
Or maybe labelling someone unfit that can run an 8 minute 2km is just not correct by any statistical measure? Or is ChatGPT wrong?
Running 2 kilometers in under 8 minutes (which is a pace of 4 minutes per kilometer, or 15 kilometers per hour / 9.3 miles per hour) is quite a fast pace. Achieving this time would generally be considered impressive and would indicate a high level of fitness for most people, especially in the general population.

Here’s some context:

  • Athletic Level: A 4-minute per kilometer pace is commonly achieved by trained runners, athletes, or people who regularly engage in cardio-intensive activities. It would typically indicate a high aerobic capacity, strength, and stamina. Many amateur runners would find this challenging.
  • Health and Fitness: Someone capable of running 2 kilometers in under 8 minutes is likely to be quite fit and healthy. This level of performance suggests good cardiovascular endurance, muscle endurance, and potentially low body fat—traits often associated with a fit and healthy individual.
  • Unfit or unhealthy?: Definitely not. In fact, such a performance is typically achieved by individuals in good physical shape. For the average person, running at this speed requires training and conditioning. Someone who can sustain this pace over 2 kilometers is far from unfit or unhealthy; rather, they likely have strong physical conditioning.

Sheehan was on SEN and said that the6 need a few clubs to list the player before they get an invite. They then add high end players like Ashcroft that don't appear on lists because they're not genuinely available. Given he's a F/S and already at our club, plus predicted to go latish, it's not that surprising he didn't get an invite.

Hang on....

That doesn't make sense. Are you telling Levi Ashcroft and Sam Marshall aren't attending the National Combine?!?!? I hope we dont draft those fat F*cks eh Jeffcrowe ;)

Really disappointed with Tyler’s efforts yesterday as he should be aware and particularly with a dad who played well at the highest level what is needed to perform and obtain sustained success

To come back in that shape is simply not showing to the club and AFL you are truly serious about your career. He needs to work bloody hard over the next month or so to get that condition removed and get some aerobic fitness back into his game
Absolutely nailed it better than I could 👍

No, I'm saying they are, but not necessarily because they were on club lists of players they wanted to see. They get invited because they're high end talents even if they've not been included on enough club lists.

Can he play football, and is he any good?
Not as he good as he could be that’s for certain

In fact he’s a big risk of wasting his talent

Also another example of the SA talent pathway not being a great success

From U16 champs to the worst side in it this year 2 years later

I wonder if being professional and prepared to play footy is looked at as important in the national draft

Also wonder how many SA kids will get taken top 30

You've spent all day banging on about him. A kid who has only just turned 18. You've made your point.

This is getting ridiculous.
Hey I’m a fan of his talent and want us to match the bid

I’ve been talking up his traits all year

But there some serious sweeping under the carpet going on in this argument

People have asked why he’s not rated higher despite some good performances , this weekend has answered alot

I'm sure there's a set criteria by the AFL of how many club requests are required for a National Combine invite and also for the State Combines. I'm pretty sure someone in the know has posted them in the past?

He's not even drafted yet.

You really need to take a step back with this stuff.

There has been a lot of banging on about Tyler on here, must have, shattered if we don’t get him, now he’s had an average 2ker throw him out with the bath water🤦‍♂️

Sheehan said on SEN that due to some players being tied to clubs they end up not appearing on enough club lists but he invites them anyway.

My guess would be Sid Draper, Alex Dodson and Angus Clarke, maybe Ben Camporeale gets a bid?

Just a little hint

If a club bid on Tyler in the first 20 , maybe even 30 or more then they’d likely get him without us matching

Based on what?!?!?

This time 2 years ago Max wasnt even considered a top 40 play before Sydney swooped at 17 and made us pay up.

Rightly or Wrongly - we would match at anything other than pick 4.

I really hope that the club or Scott reaches out to Bunji and gets him to tell him what he had to do to succeed as they were both in a similar position at the same age (prodigious talents, tubby, maybe poor work ethic). Getting it from a champ and someone he must idolise (I mean we all still do) may be what he needs.
Remember McLeod regaling a story from his first end of season at the club. Rucciuto kept telling him to go hard on the burgers, pizza's and beers before preseason training started. Might have even told him it was competition?

So he followed his advice and came back fat. Spent most of the preseason with a couple of others in the "fat" group doing extra running and other "modified" training

He could kind of see the humour in it 15 years+ later. Wasn't that happy about it at the time
