Draper's been giving Brad Ebert "of course they're going to take him/how could you not take him" draft vibes of late

He’s slow but the highest metres gained player in the draft , not as slow as crouch

Not my first choice but he’s a gun

High metres gained from both long kicking and running with the footy. Would have to average more running bounces than the the other top 4.

He certainly doesn’t play a “slow” style of footy

Incidentally he’d also have as good a marking highlight real from u18 footy as Dursma did last year

With Travaglia - he’s just a star wherever he plays , his game screams afl player . I reckon he’s terribly underrated by draft media , I expect some clubs to have him rated top 6 or 7

Another speed anomaly imo. Like Langford, Travaglia tested poorly over 20m, but you wouldn’t say he lacks speed in any capacity. Loves to run with the footy and whereas Langford sort of lopes along Travaglia seems to eat the space infront of him quickly.

Reminds me of Mckercher’s 20m time last year. Slower than Dursma over 20m and it wasn’t really close.

But on a footy field he’s a running bounce machine l.

The age (marc mcgowan) has us taken Langford ahead of Draper, with Sid falling to the saints picks.

FWIW his top 40:

Aren't you?

Other than ruck stocks into the future I don't think there's too many holes in our list and some pretty reasonable depth. Peatling, Cumming and ANB certainly strengthens our list. Other than a developing ruck and perhaps another decent young small forward for the future allowing Rankine and Rachele more to concentrate on midfield where else do you see us needing to strengthen through this draft with the picks we originally held?

We really just need to get the best out of what we already have, that's down to the coach and his assistants.

I think we have a Finals contending list with our additions already plus pick 4 and Welsh?

I don't think we have anywhere near enough high end players, particularly in the midfield, to be genuinely contending around the top few for multiple years. But as I said seasons ago, our version of a rebuild was not to contend in the top few, but rather around the bottom of the 8 as soon as possible. And that's where we are.

i watched about a rd of the first one and it was tough going. No wonder he's slipped so far, he's awful.

I’m happy to cut him some slack

When other draft prospects are still playing in junior pathways, Welsh is playing against men for the first time in the best comp outside the AFL

Reckon his highlights are bloody good but his fitness and therefore consistency are poor , staying in games etc

Kicking 8 in U18 and 5 at league level and 4 against vic country with poor supply shows he can play

He's definitely got the ability to get separation from his defender when leading. Guess he's got a good burst.
Also seems like a pretty good kick.

It’s the opposite actually. danger was a fast burst player with average rushed disposal, Langford is very slow but composed and a beautiful kick. Draper, Like Danger, is more that burst, speedy player with average kick, so the comparison would be Danger to Draper and Ebert to Langford.

Danger wasn’t a Hamish pick though, and I doubt he would have taken Dangerfield.
Rendell obviously final decision but Hamish pushed very hard for Danger during the year (previous interview Rendell said that).

Also interesting attached that Randell wanted L Neale in 2011 but nobody else in his team agreed with him so didn’t pick him in the ND. I would have imagined he could have overruled and chosen in the 40/50’s (we got Joyce and Grigg instead…)
