So having Mark Williams and Craig McRae also winning it doesn’t give it any credibility in your eyes?
No

I also noted you cherry picked the names

I assume you mean Choco not Shotgun and Craig McRae was in 2013

Just a step in his own personal development - do you think McRae presented the Collingwood Board with his plaque he received?

OK I will try again - and nothing else from me so happy for you to 'do a George' (have the last say :) ). The award looked to run 2012 and 2013 and then stopped until 2022 (for whatever reason). I hardly 'cherry picked'

From what I could see from this site AFL coaches official site https://aflcoaches.com.au/awards/development-coach-of-the-year, the only 4 winners of this award are:

(1) Craig McRae - Premiership Coach. Enough said.

(2) Mark Williams (now I didn't check if it was 'Shotgun' but as we both know Mark 'Choco' Williams works for Melbourne so I don't think you need to be a genius to summise this one). Renowned exceptional development coach at Dees and Tigers before that. Oh, and Premiership coach

(3) Chris Maple - never heard of him but perhaps we can look at this Footscray Premiership team (below) 3 years after he was named and ask if any of their youngsters (or players under 25 which he would have been developing as 18-22 youngsters years earlier) did OK on the big day, or indeed have good careers overall? https://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/teams/afl/football-department/chris-maple

(4) Godden - the only dual winner of the (clearly very prestigious) award.

Development Coach of the Year

The Development Coach of the Year has been reintroduced in 2022 for the first time since 2013. It is awarded based on input from both players and coaches, on a 50-50 basis. Coaches are asked to rate development coaches at their club, based on their overall performance this year, allocating each a score out of 10 (10 being the highest) and then obtaining an average. This is matched by an average score out of 10 from their playing group to determine an overall score.

Winners

2023Michael Godden (Adelaide Crows)
2023Mark Williams (Melbourne)
2022Michael Godden (Adelaide)
2013Chris Maple (Western Bulldogs)
2012Craig McRae (Collingwood)

You can keep your passive aggressive BS to yourself

I wasnt aware - because I dont care - that the award had only 4 awardees. Apologies for cherry picked

I dont need to read anymore

Even the AFL think its a joke award. The AFC did a write in campaign to boost our club resume at a time we needed a boost. Better off asking who his competition was ie no not the other coaches but the other nominees

Your boy Polky now invited to the extended State Combine...

Jeffcrowe that lad I mentioned Sam Toner another call up, not surprised given what I've seen the last couple of games, highly dangerous tallish medium forward. Still find it hard to believe Zak Johnson and Lucca Grego didn't get a National Combine invite, would happily draft them with our 2nd pick onwards. Thankfully Ollie Hannaford now gets a chance to strut his stuff too, hard nosed as any in this draft.

Actually a bit of a fan of Hollow from Calder

Real natural footballer , going to watch more in next few weeks

Yes Toner looks good , there’s always one that pops out of nowhere late

Have heard crows have shown some interest in the 22 yo Sam Davidson from Richmond VFL - medium forward which is interesting

(Log in to remove this ad.)

Long term view - Taj Barrett 15 is already attracting interest from clubs who see his aerobic capacity

But he is a Gold Coast fan and loved touring GCs venue while up there with the U/16s
Taj Garrett?
