Still waiting for the answer on your supposed SA based AFL recruiter's opinion on Tyler's run and where he thinks Tyler gets drafted? Surely he wouldn't be glossing over it like your futile attempt?
Didn't I already respond on that? He said a late pick or rookie draft

Didn't Cam Rayner also post a similar time in his draft year and he was meant to be a midfielder? Hasn't affected his career. There is way too much focus on these combine results, all that matters is their football ability, which Welsh absolutely has.

Yep, Rayner ran a 7:57 (Fog’s time was 7:33)

Don't forget the rest of the leaders, I had to name those 2 because they're no longer part of the official group. I guess that people are joking when they say we need to keep these kinds of senior guys around for their leadership. Certsinly the leadership at our club is paying off for young Welsh.

More incoherent ramblings from an old man.

Not sure how you can blame current AFL players for a potential future draftees fitness?

You have lost the plot.

He is not a track and field athlete? Works for me...

He is a future AFL footballer. What is this obsession with a 2km time trial? Don't we remember that Ned McHenry was elite at this?
The list of top 10 names in the 2km time trial each year going back to 2017 (when it was first held) are largely filled with players that either never played a game or were battlers. There are some decent players in there too of course, but a far larger percentage never made it.

He should have tanked so we can cheat the system and get him for nothing.

Ooops he did no work to get in shape for the combine! That's a shame. Hopefully that doesn't make other clubs pass. That would definitely be really really bad for us and not exactly what we want.

Absolutely spot on.

Muppets on here act like draft experts based on combine results when the pros get it wrong more than they get it right.

Actually on paper it looks like not too many of the SA lads came even close to excelling in their athletic testing compared to the the eastern states.

Going to be interesting to see how the WA lads test at today's WA state Combine in comparison.
Our SA U18 development program needs a big microscope put on it IMO.

It largely seems our players plateau between 16s and 18s, whereas other states accelerate at a much faster rate. The large majority of our guys don't look physically ready for an AFL system by the time they are drafted, compared to the eastern states. This has also translated to on-field underperformance. Whether it's lack of funding, lack of training, or just mindsets, I'm not sure.

It appears some SANFL clubs are too focused on fast-tracking 18s into a senior system but its often at the detriment of the juniors' development - players getting played out of position, not hitting the Champs in form, etc.

As a result, you see a lot of highly-touted SA players sliding significantly in their draft years.

That might be the case if he didn't look out of shape physically...this tanking crap is just that...crap

I'd rather a gun footballer with football skills and football IQ.

Fitness can easily be built and improved over time. You can't turn an athlete into a footballer, but you can turn a footballer into a fitter version of himself.

Tom Hawkins has had a pretty damn good career and certainly wasn't a time trial specialist i wouldn't have thought and certainly carried plenty of puppy fat in his early days.

Idiotic take!

Here are the 2km time trials from our super draft of 2019! We got the #2 and #6 2km time trial legends and look at how that worked out.

Admittedly it could have been better if we got Jacob Kennerley who I am sure is a fantastic football despite never having heard of him.

RankResultName
16:04Jacob Kennerley
26:05Chayce Jones
36:07Sam Walsh
46:10Will Golds
56:11Luke English
66:11Ned McHenry
76:13Oscar Brownless

We need to draft solely based on a players home life / stability combined with their results from the tests they run in their underwear! Its that simple.

Add who's parents makes Hamish a nice afternoon tea

Well that goes without saying.... Apparently we have a special cultural "test" (according to Bicks) that players have to pass... Thats what stopped us going after that hack Dustin Martin - thank god!

Inside story: Mark Ricciuto and Ralph Carr detail Adelaide’s big bid for Richmond star Dustin Martin in 2017

How hard did Adelaide go for Dustin Martin during the 2017 season? The Crows had just lost Patrick Dangerfield and went deep into the bank balance to find a replacement superstar. But did he ever consider the move?

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL News. Followed categories will be added to My News.

Dustin Martin’s manager says Adelaide was a serious contender for the signature of the now three-time Norm Smith Medallist when he contemplated leaving Richmond in 2017, with the Crows matching North Melbourne’s mega offer to the superstar. After Adelaide football director Mark Ricciuto revealed how the Crows made a big play for the Tigers superstar, Martin’s manager Ralph Carr told The Advertiser ‘Dusty’ was open to a move to South Australia.

Yeah but could Hawkins go on 40k jogs like McHenry?

It certainly suggests he'd struggle with repeat efforts that will be required at AFL level if he doesn't improve his tank.

What?!?!? Hands down this is one of the dumbest things on this bloody forum.

What does running 2km in a straight line without a football and without any physical contact have to do with repeat efforts on the AFL football field?

Welsh is going to be a forward. He needs fast bursts and quick recovery - not 2km endurance. The fastest 2km trial run is 6 minutes - when in the history of the AFL has an AFL forward had to run continuously for 6+ minutes without a break?!??!!? He is going to be required to recover quickly - not sustain physical performance for 6 mins without a break.

The bulk he has will allow him to endure the hits at AFL level. Unless of course you want to turn Tyler Welsh into a rebounding half back flanker his first year - you absolute pork chop.

Dustin Martin also left school early to focus on footy, maybe not the best comparison.

I agree though, we need crowbots who have McHenry like work ethic above everything else.

I can run 2km in 7.20 and I’m 42 years old. Granted, I do run 50km a week.

What’s Tyler’s excuse?
I walk around the block and my ankles start burning...
