I’d rather give a spot to someone who’s got a bit more size about them giving them a better chance of at least playing AFL.Sure, but thats why he's on the Cat B rookie list and not on the senior list. Are you telling me you'd rather just not have him at all and leave that spot empty?
Well I can tell you I would have never in a million years selected Butcher. They are probably the ones you would've selected if you were on list management.
Wow we finally found common ground.Well I can tell you I would have never in a million years selected Butcher.
From your other posts I know you have a preference for talls but smalls can be damaging too. Nick Watson is dwarfed by Barrett and he's pretty good despite his size (well by a couple of cm). David Rodan was also shorter than Barret and he was good. Being the size he is has helped him slip to Port. Hopefully he has a great career. His pace and aggression are outstanding. I just hope he's allowed to show his flair and not pigeon holed as a stopper like we did to Jake Neade, who was quite exciting when he started but had is attacking instinct and confidence killed off.I’d rather give a spot to someone who’s got a bit more size about them giving them a better chance of at least playing AFL.
As I said before at his height unless he’s a small forward goal kicking machine he’s got bugger all hope of playing afl.
The good thing is he will improve the magpies side and that’s a positive.
As you said he’s only a Cat B so it’s no big deal.
I’m just not getting carried away with us picking him.
Barrett got speed in spades, the x-factor and strengths to break away. Port have intentionally hidden him away in midfield which imo is an option for him like what Pickett does. Not sure why there's some dislike towards this kid but some of his ground ball work and his tackling pressure (averages over 6 tackles a game) is something that our forward line could do with. Would say if his development goes as planned he could well replace Rioli
Watson is perfect for what I was saying. From your other posts I know you have a preference for talls but smalls can be damaging too. Dont tell Tribey, he still believes we had no choice other than Butcher.Wow we finally found common ground.
Which one? If you mean John it was the right pick at the time, no doubt. Tredrea was on the way out, John dominated a country GF against men at 16 kicking 2.7 (yes, I know but everyone thought that could be rectified) was the best 17 year old contested mark I think I’ve seen and was supposed to go in the top 3 but slipped.Well I can tell you I would have never in a million years selected Butcher.
He is the best free pick we’ve taken. As a cat b he costs zilch. At worst he helps the SANFL team avoid a 2nd wooden spoon in 125 years.Watson is perfect for what I was saying.
He is a goal kicking machine type small forward.
Hopefully Berry will be the same.
Those guys have been drafted for that purpose.
Benny is more your top up player for the magpies.
Nothing wrong with that considering he’s a nothing pick.
Lol Norf.As did Fox:
PORT ADELAIDE
Picks (at the start of the draft): 13, 29, 36, 50
Selections: Joe Berry (15), Jack Whitlock (33), Christian Moraes (38)
The Power landed Murray Bushrangers livewire Joe Berry after using Pick 45 to get a pick ahead of West Coast in the first round, despite having been linked to a key-position type with their first selection. Berry is an exciting forward prospect who plays in a similar manner to Port Adelaide champion Joe Berry and is a chance to walk straight into Ken Hinkley’s best 23. Night two proved just as fruitful for the Power, snapping up slider Jack Whitlock at No. 33 — after it was understood they were surveying key forward options with their first selection. They made another value addition five picks later, calling the name of running machine Christian Moraes to supplement their midfield group.

I know it's against the BF spirit of negativity but considering how little draft capital we had this year compared to others I think the recruitment team did a great job in their strategy and selections in this year's draft. This is especially important with the string of compromised draft periods coming up in the near future with the Tasmanian entry.
Now we all wait and see how they perform over coming years.
Well he has the chance to write his own story now. I, like you no doubt, hope he amounts to more than an SANFL filler and is a star. I get your point that the averages are against him but the beauty of the the List B rookie is they get a shot when otherwise it would be rarely possible.Watson is perfect for what I was saying.

Well we drafted him, so it wasn't BS. There is a long term strategy to get Doug in 2026 draft. This is a piece of it.The Cochrane thing also sounds like BS. We have long valued U16 form where Montgomery and Rome excelled very highly. I don’t recall any mention of Cochrane as a ND chance before tonight.
To be honest, their best report card for a decade.Lol Norf.

Was he ever actually on our AFL list, I can’t remember or if he was just on our sanfl listWhat the hell happened to that bloke from China. G'day bro if ya out there!
I think we just destroyed his limbs and sent him home. Was he ever actually on our AFL list, I can’t remember or if he was just on our sanfl list
He was only on the SANFL reserves list, was never on the senior top up list. Was he ever actually on our AFL list, I can’t remember or if he was just on our sanfl list
I can’t see anyway that this helps us towards drafting Dougie. If we want him to do what jhf did and request a trade back to us early then it is a very long term strategy.Well we drafted him, so it wasn't BS. There is a long term strategy to get Doug in 2026 draft. This is a piece of it.
It wasn't for mickey mouse reasons that Stuie Cochrane has been trying to get his boys into our NGA for elite sanfl 14 to 18 year olds, that we have no draft rights to.
Wait and see.I can’t see anyway that this helps us towards drafting Dougie. If we want him to do what jhf did and request a trade back to us early then it is a very long term strategy.

Two years later, in our darkest hour, he kicks 6 straight (I said straight) in an huge loss against Footscray late in the year and for a brief moment was the hottest property in the AFL. Right then, if you mean John, you’d look like a colossal fool.
If you mean Danny, fair point.

Agree. Would have liked a quality tall kp defender to finish it off. It's an area we have neglected with our drafting since Ken arrived hence trading in very average defenders like Rat (ZT way more solid & predictable but when he's bad he's really bad).As did Fox:

Would like to see Burgers go back there & Moraes & Berry both look like they could play wing with their strong running & pace. Looking forward to watching them in pre-season.Agree.
Is young Wakelin tracking to be a reasonable key defender? Maybe if he is, it might explain our willingness to trade away our first round pick next year and not target key defenders at all in this post-season.
What’s more, with the strange exception of Atkins, everyone new we’ve brought in plays forward-to-mid. Maybe Moraes starts as a HBF or eventually plays wing to allow Burgoyne to go back.
