Geelong Cats is set to regain Shelley Scott and Kate Kenny for this Sunday'smust-win clash against Brisbane, with the forward duo expected to beavailable for selection.
Kenny was ruled out of the Week 7 match against Richmond with an ankle complaint, while Shelley Scott – who is in line to play her 75th AFLW game –missed the match with illness.
“It was unfortunate to lose Shelley and Kate for last week’s game, but we’re optimistic both will be back this weekend to take on Brisbane,” Geelong Cats Assistant General Manager of Football Brett Johnson said.
“It will be a big occasion for Shelley, becoming the first Cat to reach 75 AFLW games, so we’re looking forward to her being back and celebrating the milestone.”
Rachel Kearns has entered the AFL's concussion protocols following a head clash in the second quarter against the Tigers and will miss Sunday’s game against Brisbane.
The Cats are optimistic Chloe Scheer will play an on-field role in the Cats’ 2024 campaign, eyeing a potential Week 10 return against Adelaide. Scheer is out of her moonboot and has added a running program to her rehab.
“Chloe is tracking really well. If she’s cleared by the medical team to play in the coming weeks, then she’ll be selected,” Johnson said.
“Given the work Chloe has put into her rehab this season, if we have the opportunity to play her, we’ll be naming her in our 21.”
Amy McDonald is also edging closer to a return from a hamstring injury that has seen her miss the past three games.
“Amy is progressing well and we will continue to monitor her progress this week,” Johnson said.
“We haven’t yet ruled her out for Sunday’s game against Brisbane, but at this stage it is more likely she will return against West Coast the following weekend.”
Bryde O’Rourke is still at least a couple of weeks away from being available for selection as she continues to recover from a collarbone injury.

In that case it wouldn't be a surprise to see us chasing a ruck because it's long been a Geelong habit to have a number of rucks on the list and it's just been poor luck that we've had 3 on our playing list over the past 10 months but didn't get a senior game from any of them
We pick up rucks, alright. We just make a point of never getting quality or durable rucks into our system. And that's how we find ourselves here yet again.
