We had pick 7. The AFL gave us pick 8 for Battle and copped ridicule/abuse from all sides, including the media.

If Higgins misses and we end up with pick 5 there’s no guarantee the AFL pony up with pick 6 for Battle. They probably find it easier to just say end of first round.

We’ll never know so let’s not hang the Saints loving little man who gave us a magnificent end of season win over the Blues.
Nup. If we need another spot, he is the one that should be delisted.

I assume people know I’m effing around.

Right?

If you have a better way to say, ' did you even f**king read my previous email you incompetent wage thief ? ' I'm all ears.

I would have ALOT of use for it in the workplace.

I have actually considered that myself as well - considering the herbs and spices recipe and all that.

If you’re half a decent individual you’ll never make smelling pistakes.
I haven’t seen the results from that draftee combine testing thingy where they test them for beep test, agility etc. but based on Lyons game plan of gut running players who run both ways, I’m sure we could cross a few players off the list that don’t meet that criteria? Has anyone got a summary of the top 10 expected draft mids and their endurance results ?

We are all going batshit crazy, I’d take Armstrong and The Viking in a heartbeat, and judging by Dalrymple’s history, so would he.

Don’t be fooled into thinking we pick for need, we will pick the best talent available whoever that is at our pick. If that’s the aforementioned, the Saints will pull the trigger. If it’s a mid we rate at 7, we will draft him.

If it means RTB doesn’t see short term success, so be it, as long as we are setting ourselves up for long term success, which is the boards mantra after the last decade and a half of mediocrity.

You've listed 6 names. We have pick 7

We'd have to be extremely stiff to miss out on all. But even then, we can just take Tauru and Allan which isn't a terrible result. Or even split 8 for 15+16 for midfielders Hotton and Hynes (Hotton being the potential top 5 quality pick, Hynes being a guy with upside given he was played out of position all year)

Tauru Hotton Hynes as a worst case scenario is not a bad return
FYI - Hynes definitely not played out of position. He himself will say he is a forward who can burst through the middle.

Picking best available is dinosaur mentality. In a team sport team balance is far more critical. Of course there are exceptions to the rule. You ain’t picking a tall at pick 1 if a generational talent like Harley Reid is available. Very different at picks 7 and 8 in a flat group.

I really can’t see how we land any of
Lalor
Jagger
Finn
Draper
Langford
Smillie
made it a policy long ago not to worry about what i cant control,so assuming thats true,we go to the next best thing

7.tauru and split 8 to 15/16
if that is knocked back(again out of our control)we use 7/8

7.tauru
8.reid(bite the bullet)

im ok with that,if we take one of these fancy dan's other than reid, then the worry of drafts past will return, till allen or whoever proves otherwise, while reid is for sure tearing a new one for dees or richmond and checking the fixture to make sure he is playing firsts and intent on showing the saints where we went wrong & yoda and pencil case are visiting the saints board to emphasise it

Unless a trade occurs it's very real possibility we don't but we got a huge culture defining win and as the pundits like to say on here pick order isn't a guarantee of talent.
So that's guaranteed to be the top six players from the draft is it?

Seriously people still sooking it up about a win is just ridiculous. Every draft you look back on the best players are all over the place. We have some great picks in a great draft, just enjoy the ride. The day after the draft it doesn't matter where they were picked.

Also at this stage a couple of years ago Pou was seen as a top five pick.

Dalrymple did an interview earlier this year stating that they are more focused on recruiting for the coaches game plan and specific traits rather than just best available player.

Hmm. Allan has proven otherwise by playing a full season in the WAFL and doing pretty well. Old mate Murphy has increasingly struggled as the level of competition from local to CTL and state.
Taking an elevated risk on a tall, and the riskiest small available seems like playing Russian roulette with what is supposed to cap off our rebuild.
Allan is as proven as is possible for an 18yo. Him and Tauru would be a good mix of risk and assured benefit with an equal helping of high outcome given their freakish qualities.
If we can snag a later 1stRDP that would be the one to adopt more risk, or a high floor player that has slid through.

We have the flexibility to trade picks, which will enable us to pick on needs basis and pick best available.

Will be interesting to see what Richmond do with pick 6. Will most take a Mid with Pick 1 (FOS or Smith).
Wouldn't surprise me to see them take Armstrong at 6 as they will be able to get a mid (Hotton/Allan/Lindsay) and defender (Tauru/Travaglia/Trainor) with 10 and 11. Not to mention if they use some of their later 1st and 2nd rounders to move up the order. The KPF's after Armstrong seem a little riskier.

That could result in 2 of Langford/Smillie/Reid not a bad result IMO. I would take the first 2 personally

Might be OK if you are right in the window - otherwise recruiters and list managers should always be recruiting for the future of the club not the coach.

I have no problem with Lyon as a coach but only having one view about everything associated with the future of the club is a recipe for disaster.

That logic doesn’t work. How do you recruit for a future coach? When the future coach does come in he's required to work with what he has, and you back the current coach until he's gone. Then you back the new one.

Warming to the idea of Dodson with a later pick. About what pick range do the draft gurus around 'ere think he'll go?

Fair bit if speculation the Tigers will nab him with one of their picks in the 20s.
