Using every lever at our disposal to improve the list. This should be the standard for an AFL Club but seems we’ve been negligent for the best part of 15 years.
Couldn’t be happier with the attitude of the club these days
Lack of funding in recruitment held us back for a long time. It’s hard to identify talent when it’s being left to one or two people. That’s an advantage the bigger clubs have.
There’s more money being put in now so we’re starting to see some benefits. If that continues over the next few years it will set us up for the future. Just seeing the kids in our NGA program is encouraging.

Even worse though when you have people like Trout, Bains and Lethlean having undue sway in list management.

Having 3 incompetents (in terms of list management) basically being the No 1 decision maker in what we were doing with our list, including which players we recruited, as well as crucially deciding who who was in our list management team was a huge reason why we were so bad for so long.

Yep. People get lost focusing on what a player doesn’t have or can’t do. Hoffman’s recent match reports have been very promising and he’ll only get better from here. Same goes for Cole.
Hoffman uses the ball really well by foot. He did some nice things playing for the zebs. Imagine him and shoey in our back line 😉

He’s so alike to Webster. I thought McLennan and Stocker were awkward successors because of lack of speed, but Hofmann ticks every box - good in the air, reads the play well, good 1v1, tough, very reliable kick. Hopefully continues on this trajectory

Hofmann Cole Arie
Nas Caminiti Hastie

Stocker/McLennan/?

Sounds like a nice backline to take us forward

I wonder which of our superscouts managed to draft Kyle and Peris , but pass on McLennan. ( who is on the cusp of making it ).
Or was it just that McLennan had no standout features. ( ie elite speed etc ).

Once again we find ourselves with more potential NGA/FS recruits than we have room for.

McLennan had a shoulder injury his draft year and barely played.

Agreed mate. I’m very pro-club on most matters, but I roll my eyes at this one a little bit. Find more Wilkie’s would be my MO outside of traditional draft/trade.
Don’t we already have an Irish on our list?
I thought he was doing pretty well based on reports through the season.

They are long odds, but worth it if we hit gold.
They cost less than drafting a Mathew Allison.

Yep, Liam O’Connell. Did ok for a first year player. He did spend time in Australia until he was 11 though, so not completely new to Aussie Rules.

I reckon he did better than OK. Compared to our past Irish guys. It was his toughness and explosiveness that really stood out, even compared to other Sandy and saints listed guys. His skills were absolutely fine. Can take a mark too. Next step is to get the ball more. I would’ve given him a game tbh

Does anyone know the return from having back to back picks? It just reminds me of the Essendon complete failed 2020 draft. I feel like having separation between your first round picks forces you to scrutinise the choices more. Leaning more toward splitting 8 if we get it at the moment.
