How did we delist Crouch if he was contracted. If he’s cooked wouldn’t it have made more sense to just pay him out and retire him.

Or was this just a compromise, so he’s move off the list and come to realisation him self.
I'd assume its because if he's a rookie

A - only half his salary counts towards the salary cap

B - no one else will chase him given his contracted wage and

C - gives him extra time to possibly come good

I have been reading all this avidly but not adding anything. Above my pay grade to rate all the kids to be drafted. And it’s just an exercise for today. How it works out in the future is anyone’s guess.

But we do know that it will rated again in years to come. And it won’t bear much resemblance to what is thought now.

Just saw the Top Ten from 2012 on Zerohanger. And where are they now. Whitfield at 1. Fair enough. O’Rourke at 2. Plowman 3. Toumpas 4. Stringer 5. Macrae 6!, Wines 7. Mayes 8, Vlastuin 9, Daniher 10. Probably a dud year, and recruiting much more sophisticated now. But some howlers to say the least.

But still. It was better to be in the back half of the top 10 than the front. Who can say with certainty how this year will all work out.

Not just thinking of this one off bad example, but if the right deal came up I would split 8. Two picks in the teens. Gives you a better chance of a hit than a miss. Dalrymple has been good at picking out later gems. Have to find someone willing to do it of course.

I would be reluctant to sell the farm for Pick 2. More later picks I would be after. There’s gold in them there hills. History tells us that. And the consensus is that the draft is deep. More value later. A superstar lurking.

I doubt the 50% applies to someone on his wage. Seems like too big of a loophole that could be exploited.

Crows like Langford

Tigers - FOS
Tigers - Lalor
Blues - Draper
Crows - Langford
Dees - Reid/Armstrong
NM - Tauru
StK - Smith
StK - Smillie
Dees - Armstrong/Reid

It's possible.

We then talk to clubs in the back half about what it costs to jump back in the grab Allan, Trainor, Trav...

I like it.

Wait..wasn't the whole point of Essendon trading out pick 9 was so it doesn't get eaten up in the Kako bid. Wouldn't they just be in the same place, except with pick 8 being eaten up. Am I missing something here? Or is it their supporters missing a chromosome?

I assume these are hypothetical ideas for a post Kako bid.

Eg, Saints bid on Kako at 7. Bombers match. Now how do Essendon trade with Tigers, GWS etc to get a live pick in the draft to also grab say Shanahan or Hynes.

Rekon the Roos are gonna blink and take 6 + 18 for 2.

They'll get Tauru at 6 so, in their eyes, it's basically 18 for free.

Tigers take FOS and Lalor.
Blues grab Draper.
Crows... Probably Smith. Langford? Smillie?
Dees are keen on Reid?
Roos take Tauru.

Leaves us with whoever is left of the mids the Crows passed on.

Rekon we double down on mids then watch the back half of the first round and jump in for Bo Allen or Luke Trainor a little later on.
saints want this to happen, so you get a top mid that slides, but 6 is not getting traded,
you could get 2 if you give them 7+8 and maybe get their f2 back

Dees take smillie in that scenario. It’s hard to see him falling to us. I’ve always thought the only scenario would be if north traded with Richmond he could potentially slide with north taking tauru at 6.

The 44 include the CATB Rookies
from the AFL Rules
View attachment 2155020

We currently have 30 on the Senior List - 4 on the Rookie List and 2 CATB Rookies 36 in total

Leaving 8 spots to fill Crouch could be delisted meaning 9
Someone needs to correct me if I’m wrong. But moving crouch to the Rookie list doesn’t open up another senior list spot.

We had 30 senior listed players. 4 rookies + 2 cat B = 7 senior list spots + 1 Sandy rookie

Post crouch:

29 senior listed players
5 Rookies - Including crouch
2 Cat B

= 7 senior list spots + 1 Sandy rookie

You could always look at it as the kid vs Battle is about $800,000 a year, which gives us room to move contracts and grab a mid like LDU or Brayshaw for "free"?

Just on that $ saving, I still think we are a big chance at a De Koning double at the end of the year. They are almost the most important piece of our (age demographic) puzzle once the mids are sorted.

LDU will be on a huge long term contract. you can do that with battle just by back ending it.

I haven't worked out the maths but he gets re-rookied after the draft so 9 live picks on draft night the last 6 of which will then all slide forward on the night particularly the late ones as the bids come for Ashcroft etc. hopefully sliding forward enough so they all carry a points value for the inevitable Cole and Hoffman bids and limits any points deficit. Then we pass on the remaining late picks ready for the Rookie Draft

Every club has their clueless nuffies.
So bloody embarrassing when they stray onto other club's boards...
No we had the Bulldogs List Manager over for the Macrae trade, now we have had two of the Richmond list managers telling us what Saints and North can do for a trade. Geez I hope they approve any trade we do, can have them.being upset.

I am a clueless nuffie ?

but you reckon you are going to get Pick 2 with Pick 7 and F1 ?

When 2025, F1 has a historical low value?
When Pick 7 has a historically low value compared to 2 ( its pretty much the same quality player as pick 10,11,12 in this draft )
and when nth need 4 picks in this draft in 2024, and only have Pick 2 and their futures to play with, they are going to be stuck with saints F1, to sell into this years draft, with another 18 clubs who also want to get to round 1 2024?

Cool, sorry for the intrusion, you blokes seem to have it all worked out :thumbsu:
We were 100% right about Essendon having to trade pick 9 to us alone so we've got a good track record.

Besides, North are happy to give us a sweetheart deal so they get to give us LDU next year for free.

Aren’t you supposed to be on the injector board?
