I'm confused about this Crouch thing so I have some I guess 'wild' theories

I don't think moving him to the rookie list is solely for opening up senior list spots. I feel like this could be a way for us to subtly let Crouch go. Delist him now but say that we want to retain him. The use of the word "intend" is interesting - intention can change at any given moment as soon as plans change - like it did with Arie/D-Mac last year

As stavro said earlier, this move doesn't actually create list spots. I think we'll end up promoting Sharman to the senior list so essentially they're swapping positions

If we do end up retaining him, I think it's on the basis of a slim hope he gets back to full fitness. Otherwise, there's a likelihood that we have plans to move him to the LTI to open a spot for the 2025 MSD. This also begs the question - could we say to Sandy that instead of taking one of their players this year, we guarantee that we'll take one in the MSD next year instead given Crouch is a high likelihood of being gone. This has a bunch of caveats, like whether Crouch actually does need to go on the LTI by mid-next year and whether we end up having any LTIs by mid-next year, but I think some sort of arrangement could be made on this basis

If we are going with wild theories.

It’s that we have told him he is free to a good home if someone believes they can get his knee right - because we don’t think it’s possible.

If not he can come back as a rookie and potentially looking at pulling the pin

Tigers - FOS
Tigers - Lalor
Blues - Draper
Crows - Langford
Dees - Reid/Armstrong
NM - Tauru
StK - Smith
StK - Smillie
Dees - Armstrong/Reid

It's possible.

We then talk to clubs in the back half about what it costs to jump back in the grab Allan, Trainor, Trav...

I like it.
would put money on Tigers taking Lalor & Langford if they have picks 1 & 2

So that means…

FOS carlton
Draper adelaide
Reid/Smilie/Jagga Melbourne & Richmond at 5/6
If we trade down wel target a left over mid. My mail is we’re pretty keen on Lindsay trainor and Allen. It’s all suspect until draft night but if you landed 2 out of those 3 along with one of the prime midfielders you’d be pretty happy.

Except we don’t know what the lay of the land will be if Richmond get 2.

The rumour from C4[2]Yo`DooR who gets great info.

Was that it involved 4 clubs - Giants Port Tigers North

And that Port ended up with pick 10.

You would imagine 13 goes to north and one of those Giant picks

One of the later Richmond picks probably to the giants.

So it would wildly change the slide back plans

I doubt the 50% applies to someone on his wage. Seems like too big of a loophole that could be exploited.
Yeah I think you're right.

I checked a bit more and it looks like it would just be half of the standard rookie contract that would be outside the cap.

I assume these are hypothetical ideas for a post Kako bid.

Eg, Saints bid on Kako at 7. Bombers match. Now how do Essendon trade with Tigers, GWS etc to get a live pick in the draft to also grab say Shanahan or Hynes.
The media and Essendon throw away line has been “and then just trade back in”. They received a F1 and 4 mid-range picks in THIS draft. They’ll have to throw a lot more than just a F1 to get anywhere near a teens pick when competition for the pick will be enormous.

Not necessarily.

Sounds like they are trying to find a way to get the pick without moving on from 6
Do we like Reid? if those pick swaps happen for Richmond to get 1,2 & 6 harder to trade down with the other pick swaps. Do we bite the bullet and pick mid-players Bo Allan and Reid or maybe Tauru?

So if this happens our worst case scenario is we keep 7 & 8 & F1 until the draft.

Still an extremely strong hand.

Someone needs to correct me if I’m wrong. But moving crouch to the Rookie list doesn’t open up another senior list spot.

We had 30 senior listed players. 4 rookies + 2 cat B = 7 senior list spots + 1 Sandy rookie

Post crouch:

29 senior listed players
5 Rookies - Including crouch
2 Cat B

= 7 senior list spots + 1 Sandy rookie

I gather some of the previous rookies ala Sharman, Caminiti, Heath will get promoted to the senior list to make room for Crouch, Peckett and who ever else. We can have 38-40 senior list, 4-6 rookies up to a 44 players, and 3 cat B rookies = 47 in total.

If it fell this way then I’d be happy to sit tight on 7 & 8.

Try and jump back in before 20.

Then the best available at 32

I’d say so. He’s right around the mark and played under our noses all year, I doubt who we truly like at 7 is getting out to the journos. The Armstrong links I find pretty hard to believe and could be a ploy from us in some way, Lyon has banged on all year about needing more talent in the midfield, and even quoted in a press conference saying this years draft is a heavy midfield top end, I’m still extremely confident one of the smillie/reid/draper/langfords top end midfielders will be selected by us. What we do with pick 8 is a mystery

Surely North don’t trade out of the top 7.

If they do they won’t get Tauru.

I’m happy if we take him at 8.

Richmond just have so many picks. Chris Toce would have been in his element and it such a shame that he has passed.

I cannot help but think that one reason the Tigers were so happy to have players move on would have been Toce's likely assessment that this was such a great draft to have a lot of picks in.

You can sense the back room machinations that this was was a rare opportunity for a club to fast-track a youth based acquire a core in the one season that you could build future success upon. So perhaps a little bit of "tanking here"...and a little bit of saying to players that "we would not stand in your way there".

Not Carpe Diem, but Carpe Futurum.

I am hopeful that if we get our first 3 picks right in this National Draft, that the Saints will have assembled such a core over this and our last two drafts inclusive of players like Sharman and Caminiti. We do need players like Arie and Keeler (and hopefully Collard) to bloom though to just give us that little bit more talent that we need.

Are you trolling?

I like the “7 is the same value as the next 10 picks” or whatever BS was spouted because it’s so even. But of course 2 is totally different and such a step from Smillie to FOS

Only 20 days to go, I wonder how many more different trade compilliations we can produce before the big night?

Whats the likelihood of a pick trade actually occurring before this period expires?
