If the reports about Trainor's concussion history are true, I can't see any club taking a risk on him in the first round.

On the radio the other day there was a piece on concussion "red flags", and i was surprised to hear Josh Battle was on the list. Apparently because he's had 4 serious concussions during his career.
Didn't stop a team from offering a crazy long contract.
( The AFL will pay out up to 3 years of a concussion victim's contract after an early retirement ).

Then evidently your incapable of forming an accurate opinion as you focus on the “3 failed picks prior” to taking a top 25 player in the league.

I’d suggest when summarising the quality of work someone does you judge it on the entirety of their work in that draft class.

They walked away with a star. Be it p5 or p55. You land a star and it’s a win.

Pick 1 doesn’t guarantee you a star. Pick 3 doesn’t. Nor does 7+8. We should know that.

It was evident what you were trying to do.

I’ll leave it at that and not derail the thread.
No, Im just highlighting that he shouldn't be put on some sort of recruiting pedestal as he has as many fails as other recruiters. And I have that opinion based on the current crop of under 22s on Sydney's list, not just one draft or one pick.

Yeah no recruiter should be put on a pedestal. I think it stems from the ongoing criticism of taking Dalrymple and he was a mate of Lyon and he was crap compared to Toce.
The inference was that Toce, the great recruiter was sacked for one of Lyon's nepo mates. (Fact is as has been pointed out, all recruiters have lots of misses). Some were Lionising Toce with the aim of bagging Lyon, Dalrymple and the club.

Have we discussed the possibility of trading back & then trading our Future 1st as well?

8 for 15 & 16
F1 for 19 & 22

7, 15, 16, 19, 22, 32

7 - Josh Smillie
15 - Xavier Lindsay
16 - Luke Trainor
19 - Jesse Datolli
22 - Tom Gross
32 - Tom Sims

Walk out with 3x midfielders, a CHB, a forward/mid and a ruck/forward.

Pick swaps of real significance will likely happen on draft night

True particularly if we are to split pick #8, but Id imagine there would be a hundred scenarois planned for before. The biggest unknown for us if is if we dont split how and where do we trade back into the draft?

What clubs do we think we be happy to trade out of this draft? GWS and Richmond are the only obvious, but it would seem most clubs have cleared their decks to hit this draft. So clubs happy to trade a pick out will have most of the competition vying for their picks.

On another note I read that clubs who enter the draft late eg Collingwood & Port have shown interest in Elwood Peckett. It will make things interesting if all of Cole, Hofmann and Peckett are bid on at the draft. Thankfully we have the senior list spots available to take 5 or 6 players from the draft if required.

As it stands we have 7 list spots available.

So we could take 4 before getting Cole Peckett and Hofmann

Are they not intrinsically linked? I mean You wanted to randomly pot dimple for a draft that wasn’t great outside of landing a superstar in the 30s. But you wouldn’t be making that comment if he wasn’t our recruiter.

The point I made was that every recruiter cops that. Even Toce who has been fabled as a fantastic recruiter when his 2022 looks fairly average right now.

Not sure you just had the win you thought it was. But keep it up.

Your and Brut's discussion re Chris Toce is really disrespectful - the guy has just passed how about we avoid such discussions.

Oh for sure.

I just wonder who Carlton traded up to get.

My initial assumption was FOS given the connection with Walsh but Draper could be the one given:

They traded up to get in front of Adelaide.
They need a player who will impact immediately.
They lack speed in the midfield.
They want to play Cripps forward more.

Draper ticks all the boxes of being able to make a genuine change to the way Carlton set up on ball.

I rekon they are gonna snipe him from the Crows leaving Adelaide with Langford.

Then it's down to what Melbourne do at 5.

They reportedly love Reid and they are keen on both Armstrong and Tauru. Assuming North are taking Tauru then the Dees could probably be comfortable letting Armstrong through to pick 9 BUT they run the risk of the Saints grabbing him as "best available" or trading down with another team that rates him.

So do they lock up their tall at 5 and take whoever slides out of Reid, Smith & Smillie at 9?

Richmond - Lalor
Richmond - FOS
Carlton - Draper
Adelaide - Langford
Melbourne - Armstrong
North - Tauru
St Kilda - Smith
St Kilda - ???

There is every chance we are getting Jagga Smith at pick 7 with a choice of Smillie, Reid, Allan or a trade at pick 8.
If thats the case just hang onto 8 on the night and run with it.

When does the fixture for next year come out. Or should I say when does our annual reaming by the AFL come out.
some dead spot just before or after the draft,7-10 days before draft,or a week after, afl will give us a bit of a rest in early december, before the first of the pre season training season ending injuries begin to happen

Anyone seen much of Toner? That’s one hell of a rise. Hadnt been a part of any of the pathways. Gets a go at Stingrays mid year and kicks 10 in 3 weeks. 50 goals in seniors at Narre Warren, which is pretty strong from memory?

I searched to see if Noober had done a vid but couldnt find anything. I was thinking of going back and watching the Stingrays games he was involved in. We definitely need naturally talented goal kickers and another small forward. Might be a good chance for a late pick after a CHB & ruckman.
