Why wouldn't he be able to? He's a ball magnet
A ball magnet against 17 year olds his own size

180cm and a slim frame with a lack of speed. What physical attributes does he possess that wouldn't be exposed at AFL level?

And if he doesn't make it as a midfielder, his ceiling then becomes someone like a Gryan Miers - if Miers was a top 5 pick people would call it a flop

He’s the same height as smith and Ashcroft?

Jagga's lateral movement is elite. Opposition can't lay a finger on him at stoppage

Ashcroft is bulked and has elite spread from stoppage. He's always getting 1-2s and can often shake tackles
Anyway, if he’s slow that’s not what we need in our midfield.
Reading on him sounds like he is an elite decision maker and user which can make up for lack of foot speed offensively, but not sure RTB would be a fan of slow when it comes to defensive pressure.

Only have pre-season testing data on Vic prospects so nothing on Draper.
The above should shed a bit more light on the strengths and weaknesses particularly those that didn’t test at the combine

No issue with Reids speed or endurance based on this

So this gets mentioned a lot (usually in a joking manner) but didn’t a Blues player (Kennedy?) miss a relatively easy shot in front of the sticks before this which would’ve put them far enough in front to make a win unlikely for us!

I’d rather blame the Carlton dude! 😊
Noted.

Now a Dogs player, so he’ll need to uplift his ducking and flopping game.

Bloos fans tears after the match gives me so much joy.

What is the knock on Reid?
Why are some saying he won’t make it as a mid?
Wrote this a while back on Reid and still have the same opinion.
He could be an elite midfielder surrounded by a ball pig like Smillie.
On his own, when it’s time to step up,when the heat is on,he’s only as good as players around him.
Beautifullly skilled,no hurt factor maybe a level up on Hunter Clarke.

That Carlton dude was Brodie Kemp, he was doing his best to get us pick 5 then come to us. Unfortunately both didn't quite work out!

Edit: and the one giving away the soft free to Kemp 25m out directly in front? Josh Battle...

Trainor is not a CHB. He is a 3rd tall because he can't man an opponent and you'd probably prefer him to be leveraging his intercepting and offensive threat anyway due to his foot skills

The way I see it is:

Hofmann replaces Webster
Cole replaces Doug
Trainor replaces Battle
Wilkie remains

Hopefully Caminiti can fit in somehow

Great summary.

Zach Merrett says hi.

I posted this in the List Management Thread:
LIST ANALYSIS 2024/2025

DEFENCE
Key/Tall Defenders

Callum Wilke (28)
Dougal Howard (28)
Josh Battle (24)
Zaine Cordy (27)
James Van Es (18)
Arie Schoenmaker (19)

General/Offensive Defenders
Jack Sinclair (29)
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (21)
Jimmy Webster (30)
Liam Stocker (24)
Riley Bonner
Ben Paton (24)
Tom Highmore (25)

Angus Hastie (19)
Angus McLennan (21)
Liam O'Connell (21)

Comments:
  • Lacking Quality Tall Key Defender, Wilke is great but is undersized.
  • Dougal Howard is serviceable and still has potential to be A grade.
  • NGA Key Defenders available to draft in:
    • Lennox Hofmann (190cm) NGA Potential Recruit - Projected draft range - 40 to 60
    • Adrian Cole (195cm) NGA Potential Recruit Projected draft range - 30 to 60
    • Windhager, Clark Hill can play as general defenders if required.
    • Keeler, Caminiti, Sharman could play as tall defenders if required.
  • With the depth of General Defenders it appears the uncontracted Ben Paton will be delisted.
MIDFIELD
Midfielders
Jack Macrae (30)
Jack Steele (28)
Mattaes Phillipou (19)
Zak Jones (29)
Brad Crouch (30) (will he be moved to the Long-Term Injury List. )
Hunter Clark (25)
Marcus Windhager (21)
Paddy Dow (25)
Seb Ross (29)
Hugo Garcia 19

Wingers / Flankers
Mason Wood (31)
Liam Henry (23)
Brad Hill (31)
Darcy Wilson (19)
Daniel McKenzie (26)
Ryan Byrnes (23)

Comments:
  • In 2023 Preseason the Saints were lacking Young Developing Wingers, fast forward 12 months and we have 2 exceptional Wingers that both could move into midfield roles.
  • Mattaes at 190cm looks to be the Tall Bull of a Midfielder, with a bit of silk about him that we can build around.
  • Lacking explosive developing small goal kicking Midfielder.
  • On paper the aging players of Marshall, Steele, Macrae, Crouch, Jones, Wood and Hill could match most premiership quality midfields for talent.

RUCK
Rowan Marshall (28)
Tom Campbell (31)
Max Heath. (22)

Comments:
  • Ruck Depth - Was not a Priority in 2023 Draft however it is proving to be an important focus this offseason with Campbell and Likely the undersized pinch hitter Hayes delisted.
  • Pinch Hitters include Issac Keeler, Caminiti and Mitch Owens and the uncontracted Jack Hayes.

Forwards
Key Forwards

Max King (24)
Mitch Owens (21)
Jack Hayes (28)
Cooper Sharman (24)
Anthony Caminiti (20)
Tim Membrey (28)
Isaac Keeler (19)

Small Forward
Jack Higgins (25)
Dan Butler (27)
Lance Collard (19)

Best position unclear.
Olli Hotton
Matthew Allison

Forward Comments:
  • It would appear that Jack Hayes and Olli Hotton will be delisted.
    • Could there be a small possibility that the Saints are looking to re-rookie list them at the rookie draft.
    • I am certainly hoping Jack Hayes is extended at least as a depth player.
  • In 2024 Preseason I said, expect Membrey to be pushed out for the younger Key forwards, the call was one year early. But even still I did not predict a delisting.
  • Key Forwards Are stacked with promising developing players.
  • Expect in 2025 the forward line will be the weakest position again, with many players still seemingly in the development stage of their careers.
  • Small Forward depth and competition is lacking.
  • Hill, Wilson and Henry will look to add depth to the small forward/pressure role.
  • Wood to Provide Tall Forward depth.

Summary Comments:
  • Overall the List is unbalanced from an age and position distribution point of view but in a position to challenge in 2025.
  • There appears to be a focus on balance between performance in 2025 and the future.
  • Delisting's of 8 players suggests moving towards the development stage.
    • Expect the club to use late picks to try and balance the list, with priority positions at the draft to be:
      • Mature key position defenders.
      • Developing Key Defenders.
      • Small Forwards
      • Mature Aged Ruck
      • Best available unless they are general defenders.
In addition to the above.

List Strengths
  • KPF Developing Talent.
  • Wingers and Flankers.

List Opportunities for improvement.
  • Ageing KPD stocks, require and/or Best 22 players.
  • Best 22 Resting Ruck/Forward to give Marshal a chop out instead of Owens and allow Marshall to spend more time forward. Ruck to also provide ruck depth.
  • Small Forward Depth Pressure Forwards and Goal Kickers. That stop opposition rebound 50s, when the ball spills.
  • Midfield Clearance and Goal Kicking Presence.
  • Midfield spread from stoppage.

Draft Hand Analysis.
  • Pick 7 and 8 have very high value in this years "superdraft" and along with a full hand for the 2025 draft St Kilda has a lot of flexibility to trade picks with other clubs.
  • Picks 32 and 47 will fall at pick 32 and ~41 after NGA/FS bids.
  • Saints NGA players in Cole and Hoffman look likely to be bid on after Pick 32. Possibly after pick 40.
  • FS - Elwood Peckett to fall to late in the national draft or the rookie draft.
  • 8 List spots available (9 if Crouch isn't Rookie Drafted)

Refer above post.
Phanton Draft /Wishlist and Potential NGA Bids:
(ignoring available talent)

Pick 7. Strike/Explosive Midfielder in the form of a Dustin Martin / Christian Petracca type, to break the lines with clean clearances and kick goals from stoppage.

Pick 8. Accumulator Midfielder in the form of Zac Butters / Lachie Neale /Zach Merrett type that spreads the ball to the outside players wingers/Half backs/Half Forwards.

Pick 32. Goal kicking pressure forward.

Pick ~41. Mature Age Ruck

Pick 56. Adrain Cole St Kilda Match Bid. Pick 56 valued at 194pts - Minus Discount 98 points (10% of the value of Pick18) (unclear if accurate) Pick ~67 (originally pick 85 coming in approximately 15-21 picks for Bids on other NGAs/FS) is consumed and Generates Pick 71.

Pick 61 Lennox Hoffman St Kilda Match Bid with Pick 71.

Rookie Draft
Elwood Peckett goes undrafted and is automatically rookied to St Kilda.

St Kilda take 1 remaining selections to the Rookie Draft and Select the Sandringham Rookie.

FOS is an athletic beast…that vertical 😳
I hope he lives up to his full potential, could be Heeney/Warner-like
