is that the same WA bubble where Liam Ryan was no good, Charlie Cameron was small fwd we didn't need, Barrass was a slow tall KPD better left at East Perth, Aaron Naughton was another defender we had a litany of and Ian Hill was a GWS bust?

you aren't going to get guys out of WA when they're bonafide sure bets. you're going to have to get them when they can't find a spot in their side. You aren't going to pry out a serong or brayshaw easily, freo will just chuck them on back ended deals and pay them what they want. What you can do is grab their developing players that aren't getting game time, it's the play we made for Liam Henry and it works. helps when you have a key player manager trying to start his own firm, where he's smart enough to break into victoria.

Erasmus is going to find it very difficult breaking into that freo midfield. his numbers suggest he's on the path to having a break out year if he can just get game time. there's no guarantee here but i think it'd be worth a shot that if can get game time that trajectory can keep going.

the issue isn't a WA bubble, it's excluding anything out of Victoria as somehow inferior and not worth exploring.
Sorry Defacto, I couldn't help myself. Knew I'd get you to pipe up 🤪

how don’t you get it? He’s had a very inconsistent year and you’re picking him purely on speculation not output: for example he averaged 6 disposals across the champs. He hasn’t consistently put games together where he has dominated? Good prospect but top 10 is too high for me imo

Cool.

Lets see if recruiters agree with you.

The players we get at 7+8 look to be 2 players from the nice to have list.

Not 1 from the must have list.

That’s the crux of the issue and I’d agree with his point here.

Tauru and Allan might be nice to have.

But ****, imagine 1 must have mid out of Draper/Langford
No your missing his point , these are arbitrary distinctions drawn up by everyone but the actual recruiting team. Unless you have Dalrympal and SOS’s rankings your argument is mute. In fact the most important thing is that no one except the recruiters is privy to the player meetings. So speculate all you want. Compare contrast, ultimately though spare me the oh this group is nice to have and this group is must have. The last few brownlows were won by guys out of the top 10

If we had pick 5 instead of pick 7, we'd be complaining about how there is actually a clear top 3-4 mids available and we screwed up by winning any games at all this year.

That's just what this place does.
100% this

Was just lurking over dees board.

Early chat was clear top 3 they miss out on (FOS, smith Draper)
And talk of trading 5 backwards if one of them not available.

Although they have come around on Langford and Lalor now, but there is a real anti smillie vibe there so it’s a top 5, not 6.

Also they are very keen on Reid.
Hoping we take Armstrong which none of them seem interested in, and either Reid or Tauru available at 9 for them.

It seems like a clear top 6 mids but it just changes so quickly. Look how much it's changed throughout the year. Look how quickly every draft changes in terms of where players would have gone.

It will fall how it falls, worst case we get Tauru who looks like an unbelievable prospect and can pair him with a mid with very nice attributes like Reid or Lindsay (who may end up the pick of the mids, that's how much it can change).
At Champs Trainor was a top 2 or 3 selection and nobody had heard of Tauru. In saying that, the top mids have been there abouts and have only changed positions.

In a draft where it’s been clear that the top 6 guys are all bonafide genuine mids and aside from the rankings based on their form, they haven’t really changed which players I’m referring to - how was I missing the point!

We are talking about the players as they are and what we need today.

It’s an entirely different argument what they might end up being.

There is a reason why the saints are considering splitting 8 and it’s because it is the beginning of a number of players who are all viewed similar.

So in addition to what I got from my work function the other night which seems like sound info

I’ve just been told if Lalor is there at pick 2. We will make a play for it
what would we offer? I don't like the idea of losing 7+8 to go all in on lalor with his history of soft tissue injuries. This is not a cherry on top situation, we need bankable A graders

🤷‍♂️

Maybe 7+F1 has been agreed in principal this entire time.

How far behind is Allan from Taurus in terms of talent?

If none of the top 6 mids fall to us and we split the 8th pick for 15th and 16th. I would prefer to grab Allen just incase we aren't able to get any other mids in the teens (Reid, Lindsey, Hynes).

We miss out on Tauru but we can still grab a talented defender in Trainor too

Tbh I sort of see a bit of Harry Sheezel in Murphy Reid.

  • skill by hand and foot
  • IQ
  • vision
  • not amazing athletically

sheez was a crazy prospect due to his forward ability. But as a Mid, Reid seems quite comparable from what I’ve seen.
I was thinking the same thing watching us play north today on YouTube
