Logan Austin for our future third wasn't a great decision.

Ended up finishing 16th, so future third was a price to pay for a player who hardly performed.

If we don't move up the ladder, then any future trade is risky.

If we are keen on Reid, it’s conceivable that we use 7&8 at the draft should their be a midfield slider, or we take him at 7.

I reckon it’s midfield slider = we keep 7/8 slider + Reid
Other option is no midfield slider and p7 is Reid and hoping gws trade 8 32 for 15-16 and it’s Lindsay/trainor/Shanahan or small forward Hannaford.

You asked the question and this trade came to mind (without research).

I wouldn't ever trade a F1 as has been mooted on the forum.

There is no crystal ball on how we will perform next year.

Even Basset in Saints TV's interview said we may need a couple more years of drafting. Basset also said we had made a mistake in ignoring the draft six or so years ago.

Trading away your future picks ain't a good idea.

If we ended up with Smillie, Reid would be a really nice compliment to that pick in my opinion.

With his size, there has to be some thought that Smillie becomes a forward.

From memory it worked out worse than that. I thought it was ultimately a F2. Could be wrong to just to be consistent with my life’s work

If we ended up with Smillie, Reid would be a really nice compliment to that pick in my opinion.

With his size, there has to be some thought that Smillie becomes a forward.

Smillie is a really raw prospect in comparison to the likes of Jagga and FOS.

He played forward at times because he is a giant. But he doesn’t have forward craft.

He is a mid but there is so much scope to develop him.

Yes, it ended up a big price to pay.

Free agency, father son, academy is proving to be extremely problematic for us.

Our draft hand is our strongest lever to success, we need to be extremely careful making decisions and not trading away our future based on a short term decision.
