This I disagree with.

Similar in height.

Pou has more speed but Langford has natural midfield ability and nous.

Pou more Xfactor. Langford just wildly consistent.

Langford gives me 04-10 Lenny vibes. Well balanced mid who just goes to the well every game at amazing consistency
Respectful of your opinion but doubt he’ll get to us anyway

What's the chance that Trainor's concussion issues are a ruse for us to pick him at 8?

Local peninsula boy ...... played for Sandy ... went to Brighton Grammar .... spent a week training with us ..... we know how good he is

Do we have the nuts to pull off such a scam?

Funny we have already had a Luke Trainor play for St Kilda .... 4 games in 1926

Kicked a goal in every game he played

Low, purely based on him not being invited to the draft.

The AFL like getting the top 10 on stage so if he wasn't nominated to attend, it's unlikely we are considering him at that pick.

He has upside and the attributes to make it in multiple positions. I think he's far from the polished product.

You can play him almost immediately off the fwd flank and develop his game.

His size and movement for his size is impressive. Especially in close. Around the contest and the stoppage. I can see us helping him with his application and therefore his running ability. I think his midfield craft can be developed.

Compare him to say Smith. Smith it a bit like collard it'll take years before his body is right and tbh I don't see how it translate to state league level let alone AFL where the bodies are bigger.

The disappointing thing about this draft is there is no Harley Reid, Walsh, petracca type here. No once in a generation midfield talent. It's like the top end is missing but the picks between 5-10 last longer then I feel it drops off again.

Someone like SPP would go top 5 and push for pick 1 in this draft which shows how stunted it really is.

I suspect it's been hyped up because a number of clubs are using it to rebuild and need optimism that it can deliver. I don't see it.
It’s only the depth element which is hyped!

Interesting. Do you know where they announce who's invited? There's always one where they get a late invite right?
Twomey listed them on Gettable this week. I cant find a screenshot anywhere but here's the video.

Players can get a late invite and last year, a few of the invited players brought teammates who then got drafted themselves so thats a possibility too.

TOP PROSPECTS ATTENDING DRAFT NIGHT

The AFL has invited 20 players to the first night of the draft next Wednesday, where as many as 27 dreams are set to be achieved.

After early father-son and Academy bids, the first round of this year’s draft is expected to blow out to 27 selections.
Of the invitees, 17 have played their footy in Victoria this year.

South Australian Sid Draper, West Australian Bo Allan and Queenslander Leo Lombard are the three interstate players to be invited.

The players invited to attend the draft at Marvel Stadium are: Levi Ashcroft, Finn O’Sullivan, Harvey Langford, Sam Lalor, Jagga Smith, Sid Draper, Josh Smillie, Murphy Reid, Alix Tauru, Harry Armstrong, Tobie Travaglia, Bo Allan, Leo Lombard, Isaac Kako, Xavier Lindsay, Joe Berry, Jack Whitlock, Matt Whitlock, Jobe Shanahan and Sam Marshall.

I like Langford as a player but believe he’s very similar to Phillipou…prefer Allan who has speed plus power
I don’t disagree, but Langfords year has been far too good to overlook and two Pous are better than one Pou and one left footed Coffield (at the same age)

Pou, Langford would be a great middle to look forward to in years to come. Add in Windy, Henry, Wilson, Hugo, Steele and McLobster in their later years plus whoever else we draft this year (hopefully Reid).

Things can change quickly, a lot of kids come more prepared to play good senior footy early in their career these days.

I like this kid because he’s a competitive beast, he comes to play. Just watched the Chiefs GM talking about recruiting, what they look for, who fits and why. They monitor these guys through high school, college etc, those who fail usually fail because of factors other than skill and physical attributes.

Guys have to love the game, the preseason, the weights room etc. He also touched on how players change over the years and how the environment including who they mix with impacts that. We’ve done a lot of work trying to build a winning culture down a Moorabbin whoever we pick next week will be the best choices for us including will to win, character etc.

Worth remembering when the names get called out that we generally have very little to go on other than watching a few games and some highlights, back in our recruiting team.

Gee it will be interesting to see where he ends up going. At what draft point is the risk worth the reward? If he's there at 32 we'd have to have a crack you'd think...

Having said that we really seem to be avoiding injury risks so maybe hes just a flat out no for us.
I love his game. He has elite footskills. He is the type that steps up to the plate when the games on the line.

I’d personally have absolutely Zero issues trading our F1 for 18 and taking him.

That’s how much I like him.

The concussion risk or perceived risk just means I won’t burn 7/8 on him.

If we rate him, he's one that would make sense to slide back for. Imagine landing Langford, Trainor and Reid.

Bring on Wednesday!

...
takes it at its highest point which is the best type of marking forward
Second thing this week that kind of drives me nuts. After the "Allen" business that you're all going to hell for. Nobody takes the ball at its highest point ffs! Never mind me, predraft tension at pretty high levels right now. Just give me Reid with Tauru or a slider and some chamomile tea.

Would it seem an odd mix to have both Lalor and Smillie in your midfield? Both also may have higher bust factor than some of the others in that top 6. Could he a high risk, high reward approach.
