Few interesting bits here

West Coast are hoping the grandson of a footy legend and the best defender in this year’s draft will slip to their second pick on Thursday night.

The West Australian understands the Eagles have strong interest in under-18 All-Australian full-back Luke Trainor in the second round of this year’s draft.

Their second pick currently sits at No.26, but that is set to slide back into the 30s after multiple academy and father-son bids in the first round.

West Coast are likely to target a midfielder with their first pick in this year’s draft – currently No.12 – with West Australian Bo Allan in their sights.
But it is unlikely the Peel Thunder product will still be on the board when they finally get a chance to draft a player, with Richmond interested and holding four picks including 10 and 11 before the Eagles get their chance.

Collard's attitude is definitely concerning, you would think the club would be working with him to improve his body language and approach to training.

How long does he get to develop and show footy means something to him?

I agree with you re looking for another small forward, but I dont think it will occur in the 1st round. Perhaps at pick #32 a small may come into play Dattoli, Hannaford or similiar.
Dattoli and Hannaford don't look like falling to 32

If we have a rookie spot or a later pick, I like the look of this guy if he is available:

Saw nothing of an attitude at training. On the contrary it was the happiest I had seen him, and he was very involved in all the training drills.

Took a very quick look at Travaglia. I like that he gets a bit of it. Seems like a tough nut and obviously an amazing runner. Question mark looks like kicking. Not bad but not amazing.
His kicking efficiency in the championships was impressive

Tobie Travaglia
State: Victoria Country
State League Club: Bendigo Pioneers
Community Club: Sandhurst
Date of Birth: 26/10/2006
Height: 187cm

An athletic defender who had an outstanding year at club and representative levels. His ability to intercept using his closing speed aerial presence and competitiveness stood out across the season. Was a key in setting the play up for Victoria Country during the National Championships, averaging 21.8 disposals at 85 per cent efficiency and 6.2 marks. Produced dominant games against South Australia and Victoria Metro and placed fifth in the Larke Medal with 15 votes, while also earning All Australian selection. Also produced strong displays against senior opposition when playing with the Australia U18 team and Carlton’s VFL outfit. That came off the back of strong form for the Bendigo Pioneers in the Coates Talent League, where he averaged 24 disposals in 12 matches to earn Team of the Year selection. Finished second in the 2km time trial at the Draft Combine with a time of 6:13.

I know you could throw a blanket over a handful of likely draftees we take with our early picks, would the likes of Langford, Reid or Smillie get a game in Round 1?

Because he likes bombing the ball long

Ironically that's one of his biggest weaknesses. Poor decision-making...doesn't lower his eyes enough and blazes away too often (if the kick is >40m its considered effective even if it is a turnover)

Langford would. Could easily do a role on a wing and push Wood forward, or directly replace Membrey as a pseudo-forward

Reid and Smillie depend on how the club want to develop them. If they both start in the mids then they'd start in the VFL I think. Otherwise, Reid might get a debut as a half forward and Smillie who knows - probably VFL no matter the position

tbf clark had a tendency to bomb it long in his draft year too, some can be coached out of it

Take Draper and trade 8 for 15 and 16.
Everyone seems to think GWS will happily give us picks #15 and #16 for our pick #8

It might be more realistic that we give picks #8 and #32 and in return get picks #16, #21 and #56

In this instance we go from picks #7, #8, #32, #47, #80, #88 to #7, #16, #21, #47, #56 and #80

and they go from picks #15, #16, #21, #37, #56, #73 to #8, #15, #32, #37, #73 both good outcomes

similarly if we did a deal with Richmond, we would probably give up picks #8 and #32 and get back picks #11 and #23

In both cases we would get three picks in the first round (desired outcome)

I like the sound of having picks #7, #11, and #23 but that's not what numerical value those picks will have by the time we get to use them (more likely picks #9, #13 and #27) and I wonder if Richmond can really be induced into such a trade (not because it is unfair, but because they might see pick trades as a way to get a stronger hand in next year's draft).

No offense intended but "bombing the ball long" is unlikely to result in an 85% disposal efficiency.

Not 85%, but close

I agree and he eeks leadership and competitiveness which is crucial for teams building a winning culture.
I do see a world where struggles especially on the outside , defensively. I’m really 50/50 with him. Like there’s a world where he’s a star but I actually see his ‘bust factor’ relatively high.

Time for the daily "change of mind" pick discussion haha

I want us to get a pick in the teens to grab Joe Berry.

Yes, we have Higgins, but Berry can compliment him and looks like exactly the sort of player Ross loves to coach.

I have zero confidence in Collard so having another top end small forward on the list is important because right now it's Snags or bust.
Alger, Datolli or Hanaford also good small forwards

This seems a lot fairer on both teams and wouldnt be a bad outcome for us as would bank some points for any bidding surprises and leave a late pick for a ruckman if needed.
