Clubs won’t see it as too far off his value. Plus it would force us to match.

Splitting 8 and moving 32 in would be the best bet for us.
Other than forcing us to match it doesn't really do anything for those clubs strategically.

It will absorb 1 pick for 1 player.

And there is a risk that we don't match.

It’s the same threat used successfully on Essendon with Kako.

It’s removes clubs from double dipping in that range of “Live” picks.

It’s not a threat at 40+.

But it would take 32 out of the “live” selections on the night.

No offense intended but "bombing the ball long" is unlikely to result in an 85% disposal efficiency.
Any kick that travels more than 40 metres is considered 'effective' even if it results in a turnover

So if he kicks it 100 times, and every time it travels 40+ metres but hits an opponent's chest, he would still have 100% efficiency

There's something wrong with your post. Black text on grey background after the blue text.

Is that pick swap worth it?
Is pick 19 and 26 (currently 16 and 21) really better than picks 9 and 34 (currently 8 and 32).

An argument could be made, that the nga/fs are not available so the picks could be considered.
8 and 31 for picks 16 and 21 (excluding NGAs and f/s)
Definitely not worth it imo.

When these sort of pick trades are done, I reckon a good rule of thumb is that every place the earliest pick is upgraded is worth twice as much as the later pick.

Ie. 5 and 20 for 9 and 10 is reasonably fair.

5 and 20 for 9 and 16 is not.

This is because picks increase in value exponentially the closer you get to the top.

Downgrading your early pick 8 spots for upgrading a later pick 10 spots just isn't worth it and pick 56 doesn't have enough value to even enter considerations.

Only Port Adelaide (pick 29 and 36) and the Dogs (25 and 35) would see any benefit to bid on Cole.
The strategy would be so we don't draft the player that they want at pick 32, and it may allow the player to slide to pick 35/36.

But as I said they would be taking a big risk hoping we match.

Pick 29 will fall to pick 31 and 25 to 29.

A real nuff would also be listening to the SEN radio broadcast
I'll use my phone and put my headphones on.

Stav yes it is but I don't like the boring interviews on Fox. Only drawback is Ablett, boring sycophantic AFL company man.

All the talk of a top 6 then a big even bunch to about 25 is wrong I think there are a handful of players Tarau, Reid, Allan, Travaglia who I think should be in the conversation and others would probably add Lindsay and Armstrong to that top end bunch. Then there is Trainor who belongs there if you ignore the concussion talk.

After that you are in to neat half forwards like Berry and Dattoli or raw talls like Shanahan and the Whitlocks. They are all nice prospects but are not in an even tier with Tarau Reid Allan Travaglia in my opinion.

I am not keen on splitting 8 and even less keen on trading a F1 for a pick that on the night will be 18+.

Reid and Trainor may well slide all the way back there but just as likely won’t and if Trainor does it is purely because the concussion risk is very real. Only GWS or Richmond are likely to consider a trade out of this draft and into 2025 and only at a very high price. With the split of 8 the trouble is we won’t know who will be available when the split happens and chances are it will be Dattoli and Whitlocks and Hynes. I would take Travaglia over 2 of them every day of the week.

We don’t really need extra picks and I prefer 8 & 32 compared to 15 & 21

We have 8 list spots
Picks 7 8 32 Cole Hofman a mature age Ruck and we will need to rookie Crouch for now. Leaves one spot to rookie Peckett or other Rookie depending how we view what is left in the Rookie draft. Crouch will probably retire before the start of the season and we will take his spot to SSP someone.

At 32 take a tall Simms or Stumpf or Mraz O’Farell and re-enforce our talls I really haven’t spent any time looking at them so whoever they rate is OK with me.

Hoping for Langford Reid or Smillie Reid but am ok if it is Allan instead of Reid or even Travaglia. Expect Tarau will be gone to North but am OK to take him too if he slides. Any two of Langford Smillie Tarau Reid Allan and Travaglia is better than any split option.

Thoughts are it will either be Langford or Tauru for us at 7.
Those saying they don’t want Tauru have their midfielder blinkers on. The kid looks like an aerial freak, a true multi positional player. You’d snap him up in a heartbeat.
If it is Tauru then I think we’ll likely keep 8 and pick the best mid, then shop F1/32 to get another pick in the teens.
But this draft is still so wide open, will be very interesting to see what Dees/Tigers do before us.

Brisbane at 27 and Essendon at 28 will be traded out.

So they will be live picks with different clubs on the night

It’s not a threat at 40+.

Cole is not getting bid on before 32 and we shouldn’t be splitting 8 to avoid that possibility anyway that is crazy what we do with 8 should have nothing to do with what might happen at 32. If we lose pick 32 no big loss if we lose the 8th best player in the draft that is a disaster

8-20 are all somewhat similar talents.

There isn’t a clear cut pick 8. Every club would be viewing this differently.

Say, 8 and 32 into 15 and 16 where we grab two of those same level of talents is good for us.

I guess I just completely disagree with the first sentence I think Travaglia Allan Reid are significantly better and Lindsay and Armstrong probably also better that those behind them if they weren’t GWS wouldn’t consider the trade

Any kick that travels more than 40 metres is considered 'effective' even if it results in a turnover

So if he kicks it 100 times, and every time it travels 40+ metres but hits an opponent's chest, he would still have 100% efficiency
that's false. If it travels more than 40m to a contest or a teammate it's effective. But uncontested to the oppo is still ineffective. If under no pressure then it's also a clanger.

And yet they all have draft ranges ranging from 8 - 15 and we might just prefer 2 of them over the 1 we think is the best today.

Yeah true. What I meant was it is still considered effective even if the opponent ends up with the ball post-contest

But if we split 8 for 15 and 16 we will be picking at 18 - 19 or later and all those will most likely be gone already

Different if it was 8 for 10 and 11 but that would involve our F1 as well and I wouldn’t do it and neither will Richmond
