So random question. Why all the shenanigans over who bids for Ashcroft/Lombard/Marshall? Yes it affects the points Brisbane/GC have to pony up, but its not like the Club who bids is actually any chance of getting that player, so why the too-ing and froing?
Brings in later picks. For example our 47 will come in to about 42, 32 possibly into the 20's etc. Will help us with points if our NGA's are bid on relatively early.

People keep repeating this on the basis that it was mentioned “somewhere”. It was hypothesised in this forum and has never been officially mentioned anywhere.
It would completely fly in the face of the agreement also. It’s to convince half decent players to sign with sandy as they might get picked up. If we just sign an 18yo from the Coates league that is not meeting the intent.
Better off just being honest and saying no one is good enough this year, instead of trying to convince people we’re actually complying.

Given Lowe, Seaton, Hall-Kahan are all leaving, that rookie offer should now be void

I honestly think Richmond will bid on Ashcroft at pick one. They can cover the ten grand to Lalor and it will embarrass the afl to no end that the premiers get pick one and highlight to the world their ****ed up system.
Richmond have never been shy at bidding.

I haven’t ready the last 547 pages so forgive me if this has been done, but wasn’t this meant to be throw a blanket over the top 20 or so as it’s the most even field ever? Doesn’t sounds like it anymore. Should I get angry at Higgo again or not? So confused!

The top 6 midfielders will be gone before our pick, I think we all thought we would take 1 or 2 midfielders.

I think the consensus is we are going to pick on best available, rather than by position.

I think it’s a little depressing tbh, having 2 top 10 picks and not taking 1 mid. We will see what happens tomorrow.

My biggest concern is that Twomey has Travaglia picked ahead of Tauru... I'd be more than happy to pick Tauru at 7 and then split 8 to get two of the players available in the teens (eg. Reid, Allan, Hynes, Shanahan, Lindsay).

However if we pick Travaglia and then split pick 8 while Tauru is available, I will genuinely melt. Full on toastie.

We are not selecting a like for like player with Battle. We should all be getting seriously excited about Tauru. Could be the most exciting player in the comp in a few years, amazing athlete, incredible in the air, reckless attack on the ball. Battle has never been better then an average intercept mark. The Curnow comparison from Twomey is a good one actually. Could he be worse then Battle? Absolutely, has high bust potential, but you are drafting him for absolute superstar upside which is as far from Battle (a good, dependable defender) as possible.

If we take Travaglia and trade for late first round picks I will be absolutely livid. If we take Tauru and trade for mid firsts then I will be stoked.

Agree on all except the he could be a bust scenario. As long as his body stays healthy, then in my eyes his floor is Battle and his ceiling is Heeney.

Quality post.

The AFL media Industrial Complex is already running defence for why we should be happy with no midfielders
