Has we considered that the recruiting staff were impressed by Travaglia's midfield work at Bendigo and see that as his position long term?
I find it bewildering people argue a players long term position in the best league in the world will be a position they weren’t able to play in an underage completion.

Reality is, if he was a gun mid he’d play midfield

Late draft mail: St Kilda still have the picks they did three weeks ago and might look to do the same thing they had in mind three weeks ago

North Melbourne were thinking about drafting tall players three weeks ago and are still looking at ways that they might do that

FMD can't wait for this shit to be over so there's no more of this dross

Poor Jack.

Help is coming mate.

More flankers and maybe a tall
Really mate, you think a couple of undeveloped mids with potential would help Steele? Maybe in 2026 or 2027.

Considering there are no Chris Judd's or Harley Reid's in this draft and at pick 7 we could only possibly select what's left over, I don't understand this extreme disappointment.
We were never getting a Dusty or a Dangerfield this draft but we do have the following
Pou
Wilson
Windy
Garcia as ones that can take the next step

Then we have
Henry
Dow
Clark
Jones who have experience and all three hit some form after shaking injuries ( Henry younger but more injuries)

We have selected a multiple AA in Macrae and another solid citizen in Carroll.

All.of this is better than what Steele has had.
We get say Travaglia at 7 and split 8, we surely get at least another mid with the two late firsts.

I have been on the mids bandwagon since the Paddy Petracca days. Was pissed at Coffield ( wanted Clark) etc.
The only way we get a match winning mid like Dusty is by FA and or trade unless we come last and fluke a Reid.

We drafted Garcia at 50 something last year and he will be a terrific player for us.

So let's see how it plays out. I am.at pre season training on Friday, not sure if any draftees will be at training but will hive the full rundown through December and the new year.

I'm bewildered that some people think what a player does at 17 dictates what they will be forever. Or that because they played more half back than mid this year, that they arent capable of ever reversing that as they develop in a professional environment.

But maybe you are right and we should move Sinclair, Nas, Wilkie, Wood and Marshall back to the position they played as 17 year olds. Obviously, thats where they should be playing and we've been using them wrong all this time.

Not what the captain thinks is it

He said someone to play alongside him in midfield next year.

I understand your point.

But as we have experienced. It’s also unlikely non afl level mids transition into AFL quality mids.

Exception vs rule.

It is very very rare that the elite midfielders in the AFL played a different role at u/18 level.

That’s an absolute reality. History says that’s it’s unlikely a HBF develops into a gun mid. They might, but the odds are against them.
