Why haven’t we solved our midfield woes with the abundance of half backs we have on our list if the skillset is so similar and the midfield craft so easy to develop?
Draftees
Windy
Pou
Wilson
Garcia
Hall

Trades
Dow
Henry
Macrae
Carroll

At least one mid tonight

Now there is not one generational type there (closest IMO would be Pou).

Only way we can get a Dusty is to have a very high draft pick (due to circumstance and the AFL questionable rules for their pet clubs) we invariably finish upper middle to lower middle on the ladder so good but not great picks.

Second way to get that type of player is to trade or FA, which we have been pretty poor at except for Crouch.

Its not like we aren't recruiting mids, we just can't get the absolute superstar we need. At pick 7 (yes Higgins etc) in this draft there is no standout superstar mid at 7 (some would argue no standout at all).

I have said for a decade I would prefer mids so I am not fanboi'ing the club, they may see something in Trav that fits exactly with what they want in their game plan, I don't know I am an amateur and dont know enough about him.

I will back whomever we select (like every Saints player we recruit) and hope they have made the right decisions with these picks.

A question on Tauru.
I know he is meant to be an athletic freak but i do not know much else.
If we draft him where do we see him playing initially and longer term?
Who does he replace?

Came to the realisation today that the best players from this draft could easily end up being Tauru, Trainor, Armstrong, Shanahan, the Whitlocks and Dodson.

Just rewatched their tapes, some bloody impressive footballers among them!

Been saying that for a while, some of those guys just off the top crop look like they could be the best of the lot.

Also I've got the inside scoop on Tauru. I live in Drouin and my sister in law is 17 so her, her bf and all their friends roam in the same circles.

I asked them if he's a good bloke and the consensus was "yeah, he's fine, why are you asking us about a 17 year old boy you've never met?".

I think it's fair to say he passes the character test.

Doesnt this place constantly want Sinclair go into the midfield to help fix it? Let's face it, we've tried but we haven't had an abundance of skilled half-backs readily available to make the transition despite the meme that all we have is half backs.

But on a lesser scale, we did move Clark from half back to midfield. We used Windy at half back at times in his 2nd year to help his development before moving him back to the midfield. While neither of those examples inspire confidence of being able to transform a half back into an elite mid, it does illustrate that the half-back to midfield development pipeline does exist and something we've been using as a tool.

Worst case scenario the club reaches for needs instead of picking best available. We’d obv prefer another NAS or Wilkie rather than another McCartin or Clark.

Probably a draft where there is less danger due to depth of quality.
