Ok. Great post GUH. I have assessed all of your preferables to Will.Various claims have been made about Hayward being a top level medium forward in the comp. There are players from most Clubs I would prefer in the role. Nb. rustycrate
Adelaide - Ben Keays (27) UFA at the end of 2024. plays as a medium fwd/mid; Josh Rachele (20) RFA at the end of 2029 about to turn 21 averages a goal a game, Luke Pedlar (21) Out of contract at the end of 2026 about to turn 22 and had a cracking 2023
Brions - Lincoln McCarthy (30) Out of contract at the end of 2024, because of his exceptional marking plays as a medium fwd. One of my favourite players, he is a reliable kick, ferocious tackler and true team man. Would take him in a heart beat. Zac Bailey (24) RFA at the end of 2026 is younger than Linc and a hybrid mid/fwd. He is a terrific player and does not disappear in big games. Kicked the goal of the last GF and does not disappear in big games.
Pies - Lipinski (25) Out of contract at the end of 2027, cough Da Goey (28) UFA at the end of 2027 cough, Jamie Elliot (31) UFA at the end of 2025 has been a wonderful player who plays taller than his height but must be in his last year - but still a better player than Hayward.
Dockers - Michael Frederick (23) Out of contract at the end of 2026 still 23 but a vital spark for Freo and a long way from reaching his ceiling. Excellent tackler and kicks goals
Cats - Hayward is light years ahead of The Grohan
Suns - Malcolm Rosas jnr (22) Out of contract at the end of 2025 is a fantastic med fwd, applying pressure kicking goals for fun and adding speed and team ethic. Love watching this kid play. Bailey Humphrey is still just 19 but have excluded as he will find a spot in their mids.
Giants - surely no-one would prefer Will ahead of Toby Greene? Improving all the time Callum M Brown (23) Out of contract at the end of 2025 will be overtake Will this year.
Dees - and of course I’d take the Fritter (27) RFA at the end of 2026 ahead of Will. I like forwards who kick goals and make the best of their opportunities.
Tiges - even in his dotage Dusty, Dusty, Dusty Not going there
Saints - Butler and cough Tim Membrey been there cough - both are smart goal kickers and apply pressure.
Footscray - Weightman (23) Out of contract at the end of 2025 plays taller as a medium. Has got the Ginnipig out of his game.
I am curious to learn how many posters here watch many other games. I get loyalty is important in being a fan. We want to think our players are the best. We reckon each of the kids shows great promise.
The above are just some players I would prefer or would consider ahead of Will. He is not elite but a B grader in his field.
Very late pick, not on the draft boardslol rubbish
Rusty… people were suggesting Hayward is some top notch medium fwd. imo, he ain’t. The purpose of my post was to suggest there are others who are better. Was not suggesting they were available for trade but some might be. Never hurts to ask.Ok. Great post GUH. I have assessed all of your preferables to Will.
Basically it comes down to two out of contract players this year.
Ben Keas. So we trade out Will for Ben Keas.
Lincoln McCarthy-he is 30 and not in our preferred age group going forward. I would rule him out just on that.
The rest are contracted. Contracted = more dollars to pry them out.
Summary
We trade out Will for Ben Keays.
Very insightful article, thanks for sharing.I feel like someone’s been reading this thread…

Yep. I understand that. But others want him out
Some have suggested band 2 compensation.
Others have not offered anything.
My point is if we get rid of him like many on here are advocating, then who do we replace him with that makes the team better.
We are in a premiership window, trading out players for picks does not make the best 22 better. Trading out players just because they kick around the corner? What makes our team better?
I am happy to discuss trading out Will if we get something back that is better.
I have still not received a response that makes our team better.

I'd take Will over Keays, Pedlar, McCarthy, Lipinski, Frederick, Rohan, Rosas, Callum M Brown, Butler and Membrey.
Will is a much better player than both Rachele and Humphrey, but they will no doubt improve.
I don't think Will is a star, but I think you are very glowing about other team's players while being exceptionally hard on one of our own.
Only if they are on while I am eating dinner.Do you watch many other games of footy?
Would take Keays in a heartbeatOk. Great post GUH. I have assessed all of your preferables to Will.

Me too, but a different role to Hayward. Second small forward with Papley. Now that he's stopped cheating he looks a damned good player.I would take Weight man...
In YOUR opinion.....Rusty… people were suggesting Hayward is some top notch medium fwd. imo, he ain’t. The purpose of my post was to suggest there are others who are better. Was not suggesting they were available for trade but some might be. Never hurts to ask.
In YOUR opinion.....
In MY opinion he does his job and he does it well and personally think he's better than most you named.
There is only 1 player better than hayward at his role and that's Ollie Henry. Even he struggles with his end product sometimes. There is not a single other player better, it is what it is. We get rid of Hayward then we accept that we will be a net loss in that area. The basic observer won't understand how it impacts the team though so wouldn't be any skin off their nose. They'll just be sitting there wondering why we've got no half forward representation, poor link up play, and why the opposition finds it much easier to rebound.Do you watch many other games of footy?
It’s ok. We never get reamed by the Crows at the trade table.Swans free agent addresses links to rival club: AFL trade news

Added to which, future drafts will be heavily compromised by Tasmania - so draft picks ain’t gonna be they’re cracked up to be.
I thought he was only an RFA?His a free agent, but we won't get close to his actual value.
I thought he was only an RFA?
But I agree, we wouldn’t achieve fair value.
