You’re just arguing for the sake of arguing now.
No, I’m providing an argument that trading out a key forward when we’re short of them makes no sense.

More so, to arrive at the conclusion that he’s of little value to us while he’s in the stands, yet we will ask for a high value pick in return for his trade makes even less sense.

King has been advocating priority picks in the draft for low finishing teams for years now .
Its all about speeding up rebuilds and competitiveness of the comp.

He actually was saying at the start of last season we should have got a PP in the previous draft as well due to academy and FS picks

So he is actually very consistent with this

Trading Lewis is a ridiculous call though
I'm not opposed to this either.

It's virtually impossible to get the top of the elite with FS, academies. Jamarra, Daicos, Ashcroft have all been removed. That's three top 1 quality players of the last few drafts gone.

It's interesting how the idea of pick purchasing has seemingly vanished too. This would help us more than anything.

Read that back to yourself.

We’ve identified a guy can’t stay on the park enough for him to have any value to a side crying out for talls, so we’re going to ask for really good offers to trade him out?
There might be clubs with much better medical teams than ours who can make these players more durable! Brisbane is one example. CJ and Mitch Lewis could both do with fresh starts with a medical team that can look after them better. I can’t imagine our injury record is all that good.

Putting it this way - if Geelong keeps playing the way they are and we keep playing mostly the way we are - you’re going to want to hope that Smith still loves the thought of playing for us as much as Ginnivan did.
Geelong have beaten nobody of any real substance, the draw is getting harder now for them. Will barely scrape into the 8, they aren’t that good

I’ll say the same thing again.

We’re not in the competition to just be perpetually shit in the hope that KID WILL FIX!

The idea that the second youngest list in the comp which was the youngest list in the comp in 2023 needs to Trade out senior players to get even more younger and more shitter is quite literally why North are getting 100pts kicked against them each week and are favourites for another wooden spoon.

Getting some FA's as our high draftees hit their 5th and 6th seasons would be the bees knees.

Adding Will Day (a gun who is entering his 5th season) to our current midfield is going to completely change it. Add one other A grader and of a sudden Newcombe doesn't get any attention and our man can work back to his best.

Last year the opposition were forced to work out whether to focus on Day or Newcombe. This year nuh.

So now is the time to get an A grade mid that is super disciplined and has 8 years of their career left.
If we can somehow swing a B grade KPF then I think flow on effects.... well, you'll need sunnies it'll be so bright.

I never write those pricks off now - it just makes it harder to be in a rebuild while they defy gravity.

The only situation that makes sense to trade Lewis is if a club came with an offer to good to refuse. If you shop him you dilute the trade value and as people have rightly said his injury history would likely dilute the value. There are other players that could net us second rounders I wouldn’t be trading Lewis for anything like that. Also Many have said on here we should be paying less for Bailey smith given ACL same applies. We are also light on in that position. At least my Sicily idea we have better coverage for. Thanks Kingy!

Yep. North got peanuts for Ben Brown.
You can’t push a player out and get true value as the player has to agree to a trade.

How does a pick in the 20’s (pushed back by the usual academy and father sons) help us? Even if they offered a future first as well, does 2024 pick 23 and 2025 pick 25 help all that much?
Gold Coast and freo are the 2 clubs with multiple early picks. Gold Coast don’t need a volume of early picks so expect they look to trade but tbh they don’t want for much unsurprisingly. Maybe a quality small goal kicker or a break the lines HBF. Wonder what Caleb Graham is on contracted for 2 more years salary dump with a second round pick?
Freo in the market for a KPF with McDonald seemingly to be their target.

So your assertion is that our medical team isn't good enough to get the best out of Lewis and CJ, and that we should trade these high potential players to other clubs for draft picks so that we can start developing some new players from scratch under the watchful eye of a medical team you've already determined isn't up to scratch?

If the issue is capability within an off field support team then it makes far more sense to address that directly than it does to just perpetually turnover the list until we strike it lucky with 22 good players who never get injured.

Good luck getting a Victorian to agree to a trade to GC or Freo.

Didn’t we get accused of tanking for doing this when we traded out much less significant players than Mitch Lewis?

Pick purchasing would solve several issues . One being clubs would never need a priority pick as they can simple purchase .
But thats way too logical so won't happen 🙂

I would be doing the following

Offering JUH 12-15 million over 10 years. Front end the absolute nuts out of it. 2 mill per year for the first 3 seasons and knock half of it out of the ball park. If it’s not us then make the Dogs pay up to keep him.

I would also be offering Baz 6 Mill over 6 years which is risky based on some of his off field history but one we are in a position to take.

Bring in a lottery and hopefully prevent it being a discussion. Let’s be honest the rest of the system with academy players, FS, priority picks and then Free agency compensation we are half way there to a AFL run lottery as it is.

Completely agree, but I reserve the right to melt down when Geelong inevitably get pick 1 from finishing in 13th due to injuries.
