Yeah, that's fair. I just don't take much notice of what posters hypothetical trades are I guess. My point was more, I don't think we will throw him into a trade as steak knives. If he goes, it will be because he is offered a better deal and playing opportunity elsewhere.

They should, they just need to be strong enough to hold off their opponent and they're pretty much guaranteed to win.

Your first trade I think is a bit overs I thought the trade for Barrass would be those picks without Reeves so he’s essentially free.
The other trades don’t make sense as minor pick upgrades in a draft widely recognised as really deep. They are the sort of live trades (players excluded of course) where you massively overpay to get up a few spots or come back in to get a targeted player.
The St Kilda play is up the Battle offer to trigger round one and get a better pick back in a trade for someone like Serong.
We should be accumulating second and thirds and packaging up our picks to get suns or lions first if we want to trade up. Otherwise as you have ended up with just taking 2 decent picks to the draft in r2/3.

Gawn was the best ruck prior to the rule change, Gawn is the best ruck now. Quality wins out.
I be honest, I'm not even really sure what the rule change was?

The change essentially means you can hold your ground with a straight arm, you couldn't before. Rucks still got away with it occasionally. Gawn used to get pinged for it a fair bit tbh.

It hasn't really changed the pecking order of the rucks that much. The only players it seems to have really hurt are Tim English and Reeves, because neither are that physical.

Cameron was a RFA. Very different to a player currently in contract. Comparing the two trades is asinine.

TDK, Brayshaw, LDU, Rayner, Allen, Richards, Ballard, Balta are all FA in 2025.
With Barrass and Battle coming we don't need the last 2 but we would become a better team with any of the first 6.

If it turns out Mitch Lewis doesn’t make it back?
I hope we aren't planning around him being a key pillar of our forward line. The odds are not currently with him having a long and consistent career.
He probably has 1 great season left injury free. The club that gets that season out of him will be in the premiership window. Will it be us?

He’s a disciplined but limited player. With his poor ball use and given we are no longer running a full time tagger, I don’t think he’s someone who is likely to be long term best 22 in Sam Mitchell’s side. What’s his value: late second ?

I mean you could not blame Finn because he is far too good for VFL and he spent half the year there.
He probably knows where he is in the pecking order with us so he would be silly not to explore better options, not sure who he would go to or his value.

As I said he has a good track record on these things but I hope he is wrong on this one.
However if you were Finn you would have to consider your future if you were sick of playing half the year in the VFL and knowing if every midfielder was available for us he will struggle to play every week.
