Still no announcement on our list changes? Did our list management team forget today was the last day for changes??
There's a second list lodgment deadline on the 22nd of November.

We made our list changes. What were you expecting? Hamill, Sloane, McHenry, Gollant, Himmelberg and Parnell all gone.
We still need to move someone to the rookie list. Other clubs have been making announcements on who they were delisting from the main list but nothing from us yet.

Could we have delisted and paid out Smith or Shoenberg?

Was watching the 2016 final vs the Dogs on a fox replay, damn Smith was a weapon back then. Was hitting players lace out from 55.
Given we need to include in the cap, Burgess or Strachan the better options.

Paying out Smith may cause cap issues.

Wouldn't be surprised if they used yesterday as the good news story of Tyler Welsh, and will announce the delistings today, even though they were lodged yesterday.

More website hits that way
Nah, we have locked ourselves into pick 4 midfielder, Welsh & Keane upgrade.

Nah, we have locked ourselves into pick 4 midfielder, Welsh & Keane upgrade.
We know that's the case.

The point is that yesterday was the List Lodgement date, where delistings and rookie upgrades needed to be finalised. The club needs to make several List changes just to meet the AFL requirements for participation in the draft. The paperwork for these changes needed to be lodged yesterday, but we haven't yet seen any corresponding media announcements.

Presumably they chose to make the Welsh announcement yesterday, postponing the delisting announcement until today, despite the paperwork for both having been lodged yesterday.

What would the penalty be? If you can't take 3 you can't take any? $20k?
Well, Geelong accidently broke the salary cap for 8 years in a row (leading up to 2020) because they didn't get gst, and the penalty was $40k in total ($5k per year). Called "inadvertent administrative error on TPP lodgement rules".

So, you'd assume we'd lose our round 1 picks for 5 years or so

Somebody forgot to put it into Adam Kelly's Outlook calendar

Nicks is still deciding which player is the most expendable in case they get snapped up Greenwood style. They've all got a few years of his invaluable IP in them, huge risk to allow any of it to go to a competitor.

Agree. People need to take a chill pill. We would have made the delistings yesterday. Just havent announced it yet.

Yeh, I'm seeing way too much anxiety in these hundreds of posts about us not releasing the names of the players to be delisted and re-drafted. Take a chill pill everyone, all of you, all of you.

To my understanding, yesterday was List Lodgement 1 when all non-contracted players must be delisted. While contracted players can also be delisted (as several other clubs have done) it’s not compulsory.

I understand there is still List Lodgement 2 after De-listed Free Agency Period 1 and before De-listed Free Agency Period 2. Then List Lodgement 3 on the morning of Day 1 of the AFL Draft?

I assume this is to allow a contracted fringe player to be squeezed out if a delisted Free Agent is picked by a club in either of the 2 x Delisted FA periods and a club needs to regain the list spot for the draft.

I also assume that we have made an absolute rock solid commitment to redraft the 2 main list players we must delist that we’ll pick them up again in the Rookie Draft (and they’re happy with that). Otherwise it would be unfair not to give them the best chance to be picked up by other clubs.

Can we still delist after that and re-draft them as rookies? Or do we have to go in the draft with spare list spots?
No... because players need to nominate for the draft, and they can't do that while they remain on a team list.

We need to go into the draft with spare list spots.

The AFL Player Draft Booklet only mentions 3 List Lodgement dates - 31st October (yesterday), 22nd November (same day as the PSD & RD), and 25th November (after the drafts). There is no other LL between now and the ND.

As you noted, yesterday was the last day in which out-of-contract players could nominate for the draft. This are players who the club hasn't delisted, but who have chosen to delist themselves rather than re-sign with their current club.

Delisted players have until 13th November to nominate for the draft - and they need to stipulate if they are nominating for the ND, or if they want their nomination to be held over until the PSD.

The booklet doesn't mention DFA windows, which is unsurprising given that its intent is to provide information about the drafting process - and not free agency.

Even if there was another List Lodgement between now and the draft (and there is no evidence suggesting that there is), players would still need to be delisted by 13th November, which is when draft nominations close for delisted players.

... and Yes, we would be contractually committed to re-drafting them in the RD (provided nobody else drafts them first, or signs them as a DFA).

This looks most likely.
It's stupid to lock yourself up like that. Should have had one spot available. That way if a player you love falls and is unexpectedly available, you can still grab them.
