I'm trying to assess who Tyler would be similar to playing currently, would Jake Waterman be around the mark?
If so, I'm pretty happy to pick him up in the ND or RD
Jake Stringer I think would be his ceiling.

If he's not bid on by our 46, reckon we trade it into next year if there's offers and run the gauntlet on getting him free in the RD. Nothing to lose doing it that way.

I think he's almost certain not to attract a bid at all, and we will go this route. I think Welsh is going to join the list of SANFL players watchers on this forum were dead certs to go first/second round who ended up third round, rookie draft, or undrafted - Jonty Scharenberg, Arlo Draper, there's more but I can't for the life of me remember any other names.

If we don't announce a delisting on Monday, which I think is unlikely, then I expect us to announce two rookie upgrades whenever that particular deadline arrives - Keane for certain, then a coin toss.

My concern is twofold

RoB is coming out of contract

Now that could go 2 ways - we re-sign him and we keep looking for a backup

Or he has informed the club ( or will) he wants to head to Melbourne for further study etc

Now our lack of urgency could indicate a desire by RoB to stay - but I would be mighty annoyed if we get the '' we were blindsided '' from the club

Lets hope we are in constant communication
ROB doesn't look like the mercenary type. If we had one guy on our list who would treat the club with maximum respect, I think ROB might be that guy.

Luke Edwards?

Unlikely.

Edwards was talked up as a potential early second rounder by some in the year leading up to his draft.

Also something I didn't know until now, Brodie Smith got married on Friday, so that is at least a plausible reason why they might be sitting on an announcement about him until this week.

Congratulations Brodie

Oh yeah by the way honey I got sacked on Friday

I did think the same that maybe we had told him privately but were waiting to announce it publicly after his wedding.

You do realise that we can't upgrade 2 rookies without delisting 2 players from the senior list?

The fact that we haven't announced the delistings yet is completely meaningless in the context of your argument.

While searching for info about the deadlines (incidentally, Oct 31 was labelled as deadline for uncontracted players, and in previous years players have been able to retire later than this deadline), I found an article suggesting that Ned McHenry was one of the most likely delisted free agent picks ups
- "he didn't kick many goals at Adelaide, but could be utilised instead as a pressure forward ". Why didn't our coaches think of that...

It’s the biggest furphy in football

Power wanting Borlaise just because his dad played there in the 1980s with Jack Cahill

Not a thing

it gets repeated so often though

It’s the whole club reality v bigfooty pundits. BF posters get caught up a lot more in small - often unimportant - details.
Clubs ar much more pragmatic (usually)

I don't think we will upgrade two given we have nominated him as a F/S, be a really poor look to have him taken at pick 60 and us not being able to match due to list spots not being there

I really liked McHenry, I understand the move because of the list squeeze but I would have payed out a contracted fringe player to keep him.

Hope he gets another gig but he doesn’t seem too phased if he doesn’t with his fishing stuff to focus on, seems like a pretty self aware guy though I rate that.

It's the right move to delist McHenry. He's six years in and hasn't held a best 22 spot for the last two years. He's Ok depth, but depth can be rather overrated seeing most people who get drafted are ok depth.

I’d just seen the post about Ned and was beginning to think it might have broken BF then Golumless replied…

Depth should be kids on the way up or out. I doubt the the last few flag teams had a 6-7 year player that wasn't first choice. Hawks did with Schoenmakers, but he was injury riddled and played SFA games. Do premiership clubs have 80+ games players toiling away in the 2s? Maybe Lyons, but he was on his way to delistment, not back into the 23.

Tom Campbell.

LOL, 201cm player selected in the second round of the rookie draft and had played less than 40 games going into Dogs flag season. Got any relevant examples.
13 yrs, coming up for his 14th with the Demons in 2025...58 games in total.

The only way you'd end up with an 80+ game (or 6-7 year player) player toiling on a list is they've been pushed out of a best 22, with Dalhaus at Geelong being another recent example (and maybe Jones at Demons, seeing he retired on the eve of finals). The other would be potentially a ruck depth option holding on due to positional rarity (and/or bouncing around clubs). For instance, Frampton getting a premiership medal at Collingwood, Darcy Fort at Brisbane or Brayden Pruess at Demons.

The only way a player gets signed after 6ish years on a list and for purely depth reasons, is they're a ruck or key forward. For everyone else, if you're out of the best 22 after an extended period, you're heading for the axe.
