Yeah after re-signing Keane long-term I’m not sure Aleer makes sense (unless we think Worrell could move in a couple of years as a FA)
Worrell has shown no inclination that could happen ever. He's absolutely bought into the footy club and every time he's spoken backs that up. Leek Aleer has outstanding athletic attributes no doubt about that but his football skills aren't anywhere near at the same level. Could he ruck with his outstanding vertical leap there for everybody to see? Hard to see him being a list need however with us just re-signing that SANFL tall defender James Borlase for 2 more years in September just gone

Would make more sense if he meant Adelaide the city. Would be a much better fit at Port
Allir Allir is 30 years old perhaps his replacement but his kicking would need some work unless he can get a handball off pronto once he takes possession.?

Ratugolea and Zerk-Thatcher not much chop either IMO.

Imagine actually recruiting BZT and Ratugolea. Glad we have actually found a number of talented KPD.

Ports defence will be a mess when Aliir retires.

What's the point of taking a ruck in the draft?

We supposedly were very interested in Barnett. And then we were supposedly very interested in Goad.

It's good we didn't take them. Now we can see if they will amount to anything - and it's looking like they wont.

Grab someone who's 22, with a decent offer. There's less downside.

Goad has come back a different player.

He’s improved 5 fold over a preseason, admittedly from a low base.

The kid is lightning quick and stacked on weight. He’s starting to learn what it takes but still has a way to go.

Heard he toweled up Finbar today !
OOC end 2026 look after him for us 😉

Is Goad ruck only or can he play forward?

Last year, vfl and match sim etc, I don’t think I saw Goad take a mark. Like all year.

Today in the last qrt he went to full forward and kicked 1.1. Looked extremely dangerous leading out from full forward with his pace. That said his hands aren’t ready. But with confidence and training etc there isn’t a reason that can’t improve and he’ll be a handful.

What’s the talk re Goad? Obviously if he continues to improve the SA clubs will be knocking. He seems like he’s finally settled in Melbourne but it would suck to lose him after just only getting development out of him.
I imagine clubs are always looking at possibilities but Goad was always a project. So i wouldnt be surprised either way if the crows express interest. But again, will the Crows part with what North would want.

Mmm ....does everyone know we're no longer in 2024 ? .....why are we still using the 2024 thread, when there's a perfectly new 2025 thread available ?

maybe everyones just got a lot of attachment to the success season 2024 was for the club.

Our ruck options suck and we are always looking at SA players.

I'm not sure that Goad fits the profile of what Adelaide needs at present. We need 2 mature ruckmen, to (potentially) replace ROB and (definitely) Strachan. Goad is too young, and is still developing, so he's probably not what we need at this point - unless ROB is planning on staying around for a few more years.

That's not a knock on Goad, just stating that he's not at the right point in his development to meet Adelaide's needs in 2026.

I think Goad could replace Strachan, and possibly replace whoever replaces ROB in a few years.

He's definitely not there yet. Only time will tell if he reaches that point in his development by the end of 2025, when we need to recruit Strachan's replacement. The odds are against this, but we can't rule out the possibility just yet.

He could be a viable ROB replacement in a couple of years, if ROB hangs around that long.

Given that the club seemingly has no interest in development ruckmen, Goad just doesn't fit our need profile at this point in time.

If ROB and Strachan both go (which looks possible) I wouldn't be surprised if they went for Draper and Henry Smith.

And Draper is a RFA so unless we offer big overs the Bombers likely match?

Henry Smith is contracted for 2026 and I can't see Brisbane making it easy to get him given the patience they've shown bringing him through especially given the ages of their lead ruck Oscar McInerny and back up Darcy Fort.

Brisbane have done what we should have been doing with Henry Smith....i.e. patiently developing a youngter to take over = excellent list management.

Put money on us getting Darcy Fort
