No … we need match winnersHear me out.
Should we trade Rachele back to Victoria?
We need mids and we have an opportunity to trade in some top players who need a spot in the 22. He is a good player and could net us a top 10 pick via many of the vic sides out of the 8. Which could gift us the opportunity to get some really good draftees and recruits into our system. Yes he will turn into an A grade player but I think he adds greater value for us being traded out for a decent pick that we can use.
In other words sacrificing the one player for the long term.

Yeah exactly , we need to add talent not lose talent and add talentMe
If Phillipou requests a trade here then we can get it done with picks, no need to give up Rach.
Excellent article. Meanwhile, our plan? Play the same old players and try harder, because every decision we’ve made is the right one and the players are just not executing properly. This is in the Age this morning - inside the Hawthorn "war room" stuff. Some telling philosophies that Crows may follow, or not!! Also note that we had the average youngest team on the field this year(24.1) & lowest number of average games per player(71).

So we've had the youngest & least experienced team all year, yet the Cartel would have us believe that we're not playing the kids enough? This is in the Age this morning - inside the Hawthorn "war room" stuff. Yep, we're playing the same old players... which is why Smith has spent the last month playing in the SANFL, and Laird has barely seen a centre bounce in the same period.Excellent article. it must be so frustrating for the coaching and management team to be continually let down by the players.
And not getting games into kids early enough and putting games into dudsSo we've had the youngest & least experienced team all year, yet the Cartel would have us believe that we're not playing the kids enough?
One of the key reasons why we've been so inconsistent is the lack of age & experience in our team. That's not to say that we should have been playing "cooked" players like Brodie Smith. It's saying that we don't have enough experienced AFL-standard players on our list - a problem which is exacerbated by the deterioration of the senior players we do have.
You mean not letting the BF Cartel get their hands on shiny new toys, before the toys are ready to be played with? And not getting games into kids early enough and putting games into duds
Yep you need senior players , it’s just that ours are not much good outside of Tex ( yes I still think he’s good and valuable contributor )And not getting games into kids early enough and putting games into duds
We miss too many opportunities to play younger players as for Murphy you can’t justify the roll he supposedly plays it can easily be done with the game plan that doesn’t workYou mean not letting the BF Cartel get their hands on shiny new toys, before the toys are ready to be played with?
Putting games into duds - Murphy being the prime (and almost only) example - can be justified on the basis of a lack of alternatives. We simply don't have anyone with whom to replace him. I really wish we did, but the fact is that we don't. This is why the recruitment of ANB is so important (infinitely more important than Luko).
I’m well aware of the seniors need but we regurgitate the same players too muchYep you need senior players , it’s just that ours are not much good outside of Tex ( yes I still think he’s good and valuable contributor )
We’ve played the kids even though it’s not always in right roles or with right responsibility
but our most experienced players haven’t contributed enough on field
The fact that we've been the youngest & least experienced team suggests that we've already been playing a LOT of younger players. That's the lesson to be taken away here.We miss too many opportunities to play younger players as for Murphy you can’t justify the roll he supposedly plays it can easily be done with the game plan that doesn’t work
Don’t stop loving it MOREAnd before some people say "well you need experience in the side otherwise you burn the youth"
Well we did that. We had experienced players and played them. And five years later we're bottom 4. And now those players are retiring or being replaced with rookies.
Yep, worked out well for us.
Not to mention our very own senior players are doing a great job of torching the youth
I'm sorry, but this is just garbage. We used 39 players this year, so it's not as if we haven't been handing out opportunities like lollipops.I’m well aware of the seniors need but we regurgitate the same players too much
It’s missed opportunities when presentedI'm sorry, but this is just garbage. We used 39 players this year, so it's not as if we haven't been handing out opportunities like lollipops.
For point of comparison, here's how many players teams have used this year:
42 - Richmond
39 - Adelaide, West Coast, North Melbourne
38 - St Kilda, Gold Coast
37 - Brisbane, Carlton, Collingwood
36 - Fremantle, Melbourne
35 - Geelong, Western Bulldogs, Essendon
34 - Port Adelaide, GWS, Hawthorn
31 - Sydney
Only Richmond have used more players. Even Carlton, which currently has almost a full team on their injury list, have used fewer players than Adelaide.
The only players who haven't played an AFL game this year are:
Sloane - retired
Edwards - 1st year player
Ryan - 1st year player
Gallagher - 1st year player, Cat B rookie
T Murray - 1st year MSD selection
