I think it'd be foolish for anyone to go into 2025 expecting his back issues to suddenly vanish at his age. We've already seen a bit this year his 1 wood of being able to launch 60m bombs at goal has been downgraded to a 3 wood at this point.
I noticed his set shot length come back 3 seasons ago. On the run he can still kick longer, but over the mark he's best inside 50m now.

Not necessarily a detractor, he still put 76 through last year without that element to his game. For me his 1 wood now is his footy brain. As long as his body holds up, his understanding of the game is the best it's been.

Trade Rachele back to Vic shakes head

Despite some reservations I have about his ceiling, I've absolutely loved us plonking him back in the F50 and letting him focus on his forward craft to regain his confidence. Has definitely worked on his F50 defensive work too, which has been pleasing to see. I think we were wanting him to run before he could walk by putting him in the midfield.

Trading Rachele back to Vic would also signal some pretty poor cultural and list management issues. Anyone looking to get traded here, or gets drafted would be wondering when they're out the door the minute they show some personality.

You could be right, I am guessing on this one.

I just think they will want at least a 1st possibly more. They got into a bidding war with us for his last contract which resulted in them overpaying for him so that might count against us.
If they demand a 1st, we walk away - leaving them to foot the bill for his $1M salary, and their inability to sign other players due to still having his salary on their books.

3 way trade between Adelaide - GC - Richmond
(Crows pay entirety of Lukosius' contract)

Crows Out - 2025 1st Round Pick
Crows In - Lukosius, GC 2024 1st Round Pick 20 (currently tied to NM)

GC Out - Lukosius, 2024 1st Rd Pick 13, 2024 1st Round Pick 20
GC In - Rioli

Richmond Out - Rioli
Richmond In - GC 2024 1st Round Pick 13, 2025 1st rd Pick (tied to Crows)

Gets Richmond another pick this year and next year, before Tassie concessions come in.

Also helps GC by keeping them early in the draft to get a selection in before a Lombard bid. Also offloads Luko contract which helps in getting Rioli.

Helps Crows in getting Lukosius, and keeps us late in the 1st round this year for perhaps a bid on Dodson...

Yep. As talented as I think he is, he's not a "must-have" or a player in an area of super critical need, so he's only a buy if the price is right.

Giving up a potential top 7 (and I'm being generous) pick for Lukosius

Even getting pick 20 back, that possibly turns into 26 or 27.

Are you out of your mind?

Feels like a lot for Rioli, but that's probably not the relevant part of the post.

So you think there's 7 players bid on before 20, and they're all matched without any picks before 20 being used? Who are they? Or are you assuming a bunch of players signed for $1m+ and getting band one compos?

I like that this gets us another good pick this year, and frankly if we're still at the ass end of the table next year everyone is getting sacked anyway.

Way to miss the key point.

Pick 20 would be the least of our worries if we hand over a future first. Potentially pick 5 or below

Ridiculous! Do you think GC are stupid? Great overvalue of Rioli.

The AFL Trade Period is just around the corner as clubs prepare to make some moves.
AFL analyst Mick McGuane has put his list manager’s hat for each club and declares which changes he would make — including some surprises and some fresh mail.

ADELAIDE

The Crows look to be one of the frontrunners in the chase for Gold Coast’s Jack Lukosius, a South Australian who can feature in a key post at either end of the ground.

Lukosius still has two years to run on a sizeable contract at the Suns, but the Crows could smooth that out over a four or five-year deal.

Expect Melbourne premiership player Alex Neal-Bullen to be in Crows colours next season, where he will be played as a high running forward who can get up to saturate stoppage and get back to support the key forwards.

One of those key forwards — veteran Taylor Walker — is staying put.

He might not play every game next season, but he can continue to help guide and educate the likes of Riley Thilthorpe and Darcy Fogarty.

I like midfielder Sam Berry and defender Hugh Bond, who should both get new deals to stay.

Lachlan Gollant could be on the way out, though, and would offer something at another club as a third-tall forward who has some upside.

Key forwards don’t fall out of trees, but Elliott Himmelberg is an unrestricted free agent who GWS had interest in last year and will now have a choice to make.

Or not.

We should have been much better this year. There's every chance next year matches where we should have finished this year - a finish in the bottom of the 8.

It's a loser mentality to already give up on next year, to not want to get better immediately because it somehow prevents getting better down the road.

It's a great draft this year, I'm completely happy to gather players now.

As with North screaming out for some experience I would absolutely be shopping him to North
What makes you think contracted Laird would be agreeable to that?

Doesn't come across as the sort of guy that would be up for that.

Ladies and Gentlemen, can we please stop talking about trading away a future 1st for Lukosius. In next years draft there is a South Australian called Dyson Sharp who is going to be a beast, and is projecting as a top 5 pick; more than likely where the Crows first pick will be. Dyson is one lad we need to draft, as he is going to be elite.

As evidenced by Lukosius being dropped, he is on the fringe of Gold Coast's best 22, and certainly not worth $1 million per year for the next 2 years. Gold Coast should be offering us a first round pick for taking Lukosius and the $2 million left on his contract off of their hands. Gold Coast did this with Bowes a couple of years ago, it is the same principle with Lukosius.

Pretty sure he’ll end up at Port anyway

Its nothing to do with his quality. It was an idea that he could prove to be more valuable for the building of our list as a trade.

For example lets say North Melbourne immediately offer us Pick pick 2 for Rachele and pick our first pick in this years draft Pick 4. That provides us with a great opportunity to add talent.

St Kilda offers their first pick for Rachele and a future second. This gives us two top 10 picks. Melbourne offer us Oliver outright for that St Kilda pick. Gold Coast accept our future first for Luko and Melbourne accept our third rounder for ANB.

Obviously all hypotheticals. Very bad hypotheticals even. But its really spitballing potential.

Rachele doesnt even have to accept the trade. But he is from Victoria and he could choose to walk out on us in 2029 at the peak of his footy. Offering him a chance to establish himself in Victoria maybe an opportunity he is keen to look at.

Ignoring that trading Rachele would be bad on principle, both of those deals are bad for us.

Rioli isn't worth 2x 1st round picks.

Surely not

Yep, future 2nd is plenty for freeing up their salary cap.

He has 2 years @ $1M.

The alternative for the Suns is he stays & they lose other players they want to keep.

Thanks Big Fella. At least somebody else gets that GCFC should be slinging a pick our way for taking Luko and his contract of their hands.
